In a daze, Ye Mo dreamed that he seemed to be back in the water, floating and sinking with the river. During this time, he seemed to hear voices. He tried to open his eyes to see, but no matter how hard he struggled, he could not open them.
He didn't know how long he had been unconscious when he felt someone putting a handkerchief on his forehead. Then something tugged at his hand, and he instinctively gripped the thing in his hand even tighter, as if afraid it would be snatched away.
"Ye Moxun, wake up! Let go when you're awake. How long are you going to hold on to me?"
That voice sounds so familiar, it sounds like Song Tantan's voice.
Suddenly, something occurred to his dazed mind, and he abruptly opened his eyes. The first thing he saw was Song Tantan's pale, round face, her eyes filled with worry and anxiety. When she saw him open his eyes, she visibly breathed a sigh of relief.
"You're finally awake! You scared me to death." Song Tan patted his chest, genuinely worried that he might have succumbed to the whip.
"Tantan, are you alright?" I realized his throat was so dry that he could barely speak.
"Don't talk, I'll feed you some water." Song Tantan got up and closed the door, then took out a glass of warm water from her spatial storage, inserted a straw, and let him drink it.
After he finished drinking the water, I took out a cotton swab, moistened it with water, and gave it to him to moisten his lips.
Just then, someone knocked on the door. "Young master, why did you lock the door? My mother cooked some porridge and asked me to bring it over for you. Please have something to eat."
Song Tantan immediately put the cotton swabs into her spatial storage, got up to open the door, and stood outside the door a boy with dry, yellow hair, a sallow complexion, and a thin build, who looked to be about ten years old.
"Thank you, Shuanzi." Song Tantan smiled and took the bowl from his hand.
Shuanzi looked into the room and his eyes lit up. "Your brother is awake." He hesitated for a moment, but quickly decided to say, "I'll go get another bowl of porridge."
Song Tantan glanced at the thin broth in the bowl, with only a few wild vegetables floating in it and a clump of unidentified objects. It looked unappetizing, but it was already a hard-won food supply for Shuanzi's family, and they were very generous to share it with her. This meant that her family would have to eat less.
"You don't need to take any more of the skewer. My brother can just drink some warm water; he can't eat anything else," Song Tantan called out to him.
“But how can you not eat when you wake up from an illness? If you don’t eat, it will be harder to get better.” Shuanzi was also heartbroken about the wild vegetable porridge. He and his sister had spent all day yesterday digging for just enough to fill their stomachs today.
“He’s been unconscious for too long and really can’t eat anything. Just boil some warm water for him, go ahead.” Song Tantan smiled gently throughout.
She didn't want to eat the bowl in her hand, but since the person had kindly brought it to her, she couldn't be ungrateful and refuse. Otherwise, it would be too suspicious that she hadn't starved to death after waking up for three days and her injuries had healed so quickly.
"Alright then, I'm going to eat now. My sister and I are going out to dig for wild vegetables this afternoon." Shuanzi scratched his head and smiled sheepishly.
Ye Moxun had fully regained consciousness by now. Looking at the spear grass above his head and the dark mud walls, he said in a hoarse voice, "I remember we were by the river before I lost consciousness."
"Yes, later Shuanzi and his sister found us and brought us back. Luckily, I woke up in the middle of the night and took some medicine." Her back was in a lot of pain at the time, but Ye Moxun had a high fever, so she had to force herself to get up and get him some fever reducer.
Poor thing, she was shot in the back with an arrow, and Ye Moxun was slashed in the back. Both were wounded on their backs, and it must hurt so much to lie down like that. Shuanzi and his sister are so stupid; they didn't even know to make them lie down.
Ye Moxun is still lying down, but she put a blanket under him to cover his wounds so they wouldn't be pressed down anymore. She has been taking care of him for the past two days. If she hadn't woken up in time, Ye Moxun would have either died or been burned into a madman.
"Luckily, you're here." Ye Moxun gave a faint smile. His constitution was still too weak. Tan Tan's injuries were also quite serious, but he was able to get up and walk around now, while Ye Moxun had been lying in bed for three days before waking up.
“Your physical condition is already very good now. If you hadn’t been soaking in the water for so long, it wouldn’t have gotten this serious,” Song Tantan comforted her.
Thinking of something, she leaned closer, looked directly into his eyes, and said, "When I woke up, I found my hand being tightly gripped by something, and it was burning hot. I looked down and saw that it was your hand gripping mine tightly. I couldn't break free, and I had to pry it open one by one to gain my freedom."
Ye Moxun was stunned for a moment. Thinking back, it seemed that he had indeed held her hand tightly before he lost consciousness. It wasn't because he was afraid that either of them would be snatched away by a wild beast. If the two of them were snatched away, they would have each other's company.
Hearing him say that, Song Tantan stopped teasing him, her eyes reddened, and she nestled against his chest, saying, "Ah Xun, you're so good to me. Even though you're almost gone, you still remember to take me with you."
That doesn't sound quite right.
"Are you hungry? Would you like some wild vegetable porridge?" Song Tantan brought over the bowl of food that looked like dishwater.
"I want chicken soup, or fish soup is fine too, but not this." Ye Moxun glanced at it once and then looked away, his eyes full of disgust and resentment.
"It's only because I found it that we're lucky. Otherwise, we should be grateful to have this. Shuanzi's family has had it so hard." Song Tantan drank the bowl of food in one gulp. They had gone to so much trouble to find it, and she couldn't refuse their kindness.
"You're too honest. No one will even know if you fall," Ye Moxun said softly.
"No way. If I don't eat some of this stuff, how will I understand other people's suffering? They are our saviors. If they can eat it, so can I." Song Tantan said, taking out a bowl of lean meat porridge from her spatial storage.
"Have some porridge. It's not good to eat anything too greasy right after waking up."
Ye Moxun didn't say anything. Song Tantan fed him a bowl of porridge. With something in his stomach, he felt a little better, but he was still very weak. He fell asleep again soon after.
