Ren Yufeng invited Ye Moxun and Song Tantan to his residence, paid back all the money he owed them, and gave them many gifts.
"My friend will be opening a clinic and a restaurant in Changye City in a few days. I hope you will take good care of him then."
Ye Moxun's words were purely polite. Ren Yufeng had just taken over the Ren family's business, and the shop's business had been declining, almost ruined by his two uncles.
He's capable of reviving his own business, but it's hard to say for now. Ye Moxun doesn't think much of him. If Song Tantan hadn't been haunted by nightmares and insisted on finding the son of the embroidered shoe, he wouldn't have bothered to help Ren Yufeng.
Before I met him, he was fine, but after I met him, I saw that he was devastated and wallowed in self-pity, but he didn't know how to improve himself. Instead of strengthening his own abilities, he was determined to die. In the end, he was unwilling to die like that, so he just followed the Shen family mother and daughter and lived a life of idleness. He was really a disappointment.
Song Tantan was very happy. Ren Yufeng gave her several pieces of jade and some jewelry, which she put into her spatial storage. The feeling of hoarding money and silver made her happiest.
Two days later, Ye Moxun bought three shops in Changye City: one to open a clinic and the other two to open restaurants.
They stayed in Long Night City for almost another month, until the clinic and restaurant opened, before they prepared to leave.
Just then, the grain seeds delivered from Xifeng arrived. Well, actually, Song Tantan took out sweet potato vines, corn seeds, and potatoes directly from her spatial storage.
I had previously told the prefect to write a letter back to Xifeng and have someone send the grain seeds over. Now, judging by the time, they should be arriving soon, so I asked the prefect to send someone to pick them up.
Just now, they even disguised themselves and went out of the city, then took several servants they bought from slave traders and escorted the so-called grain seeds into the city, putting on a full show. This whole process was naturally for the prefect's benefit.
The prefect took this very seriously and personally led a team to escort the grain. The prefect looked at Ye Moxun and asked tentatively, "Where are the people who escorted the grain?"
Ye Moxun remained calm. "They've already gone to take care of other matters. Does the Prefect want to see them? Then I'll have them visit you after they're done."
"Hahaha, Young Master Ye, you really know how to joke. I was just asking casually. But with the hot weather and the long journey from Xifeng to Changye City, how do you manage to keep these sweet potato vines so fresh?"
"This isn't fresh anymore; it's already starting to wither. But these sweet potatoes are not only high-yielding but also easy to grow, and the vines are easy to preserve. Please look under this donkey cart, sir."
On the cart was a large rectangular porcelain basin filled with water, and the roots of the sweet potato vines were being kept in the water.
"In this kind of weather, the water in the pot needs to be changed three times a day to ensure that the roots don't rot. Actually, it can still survive even if it's a bit drier. Sweet potato vines are very resilient. This is the method used when they were transported to the capital. Otherwise, if we had to use sweet potatoes as seeds, it would be too wasteful of sweet potatoes." Sweet potatoes are mostly used for food.
The prefect nodded solemnly. "Indeed. Although the internal strife has ended, the people are still starving, and there is fighting on the border. If we don't hurry up and increase grain production, who knows what kind of unrest might break out?"
Ye Moxun and the prefect chatted for a while, then the topic shifted to the clinic and restaurant. He had been making quite a stir recently, and the prefect couldn't possibly not know what he was up to. Of course, he hadn't intended to hide it from the prefect either.
He also hoped that the prefect would keep an eye on things and prevent anyone with ulterior motives from causing trouble at the restaurants and clinics.
"Since Young Master Ye has personally spoken, I will naturally give him some face. Rest assured, I will have people keep a close eye on your business here to prevent anyone from interfering." Young Master Ye is no ordinary person, and the prefect is keen to befriend him.
But why would he want to open a restaurant in Changye City? The prefect wondered and asked directly, "Does Young Master Ye have some particular fondness for Changye City that makes him want to do business here?"
Having anticipated that he would bring up this topic, Ye Moxun chuckled and said, "To be honest, I hope that the Great Jin Dynasty will be stable and the world will be at peace so that I can travel around. But I don't want every place to be unfamiliar. It would be more comfortable to have a place to stay occasionally."
Something flashed through the prefect's mind, but it quickly disappeared. He tried to grasp it, but it was too late. He felt that there was something hidden in the other person's words, but he couldn't figure it out.
"I never expected Young Master Ye to be such a carefree person. Haven't you ever thought about pursuing a career in officialdom?" This was another test.
“If I really had that idea, I wouldn’t be here. I would go directly to the capital or the border.” Ye Moxun said meaningfully.
After the prefect and his men transported all the grain seeds away, Ye Moxun and Song Tantan left Changye City. They then stayed in several prefectures for a period of time, buying shops in each prefecture. In each prefecture, there was always a clinic, a restaurant, and a cosmetics shop.
By this calculation, they already had shops in nearly ten prefectures. When they were preparing to continue expanding their business, they ran into an acquaintance in a place called Changqiu City.
This person is Bai Zhiyan. Her younger sister, Bai Zhiyi, was not with her this time. She was accompanied by a young man in fine clothes and another young man dressed as a girl, just like her.
They were followed by more than a dozen guards, quite a show of force. At the time, they were walking down the street with great pomp and circumstance, and pedestrians made way for them, not daring to get any closer.
At that time, Song Tantan and Ye Moxun were picking out small toys on the street to buy for their twins when they heard someone calling out to the latter.
"Young Master Ye, Miss Song, it really is you! I was just about to come find you." Bai Zhiyan was very happy to see them, her voice filled with joy.
Song Tantan smiled politely, "Miss Bai, what a coincidence, we meet again." She really is persistent.
