Chapter Fifteen: Treat it as a sacred object

That night, Song Tantan and Song Zhuiyan were both wearing black raincoats. There was only one candle lit in the room, making it dim and oppressive. When the two of them went out of the room...

Ye Moxun was standing in the main room with his back to them. Hearing the noise, he immediately turned around and said in a low voice, "Uncle has already gone to sleep. You can go now."

During dinner, I added some sleep aid to Zhong Qingyi's medicine. Now, even if there's a thunderclap, she probably won't wake up.

"Bang!" When she went outside, Song Zhuiyan lit a two-shot firecracker with a lighter, which suddenly exploded in the rainy night air.

Then she dragged Song Tantan to each door to deliver plastic film. They didn't show up, but left notes on the doors. The notes had a picture of a person wearing a plastic film on a rainy day. Why draw a picture instead of writing words?

Naturally, it's because they can't write traditional Chinese characters. Even if they could, people might not understand them. After all, in ancient times, only the rich could afford to go to school, and the poor generally didn't go to school. The people in the village, who were mostly women and children, probably all knew how to read.

So Song Tantan personally drew the picture and wrapped it in a plastic film, hoping that the rain wouldn't wet the paper. If the drawing got blurry, then the plastic film would have been given away for nothing.

There were sixteen people in total. Apart from Song Tantan's family, there were three other families, all living together in one household. This made it convenient for Song Tantan and his family to deliver the film.

After that, Song Tantan and the others didn't care what happened. The rain was too heavy to check on the situation. However, the four boys next door quieted down after they got the plastic film, and they stopped shouting.

"It seems the plastic film I sent worked; everyone doesn't have to worry about getting wet in the rain anymore." Song Tantan smiled with satisfaction.

"Maybe he's too cold to speak, or maybe he's sick." After staying in the room for two days, Ye Moxun and Zhong Qingyi couldn't hold back any longer and came to find Song Tantan.

Song Zhuiyan hid alone in the yurt in the room. Song Tantan took another yurt and built another room that no one lived in. She and Ye Moxun sat on the bed board with a blanket, their two little heads huddled together reading a comic book.

Feeling incredibly bored, Song Tantan took out some comic books from the supermarket to pass the time. She also gave one to Ye Moxun, but he complained that it wasn't interesting to read on his own and insisted on reading it with Song Tantan, making sarcastic remarks as they read.

"This is so idiotic. You can predict how the plot will develop without even watching. This is something for kids. Look here..."

"If you don't want to watch, go away. Stop making noise, you're too noisy." Song Tantan reached out to push him, but he grabbed her chubby little hand.

Then Ye Moxun started playing with her hands, first squeezing them a few times, then poking the five little dimples on them one by one, enjoying himself immensely.

Song Tantan turned around abruptly and asked, "Why did you poke my hand? How childish!"

"Cough, let me see your hand, and I'll give you a gold ingot, okay?" Ye Moxun's ears turned slightly red, but his face remained calm.

"No, you're so weird. Why do you like playing with other people's hands? Do you have some kind of weird fetish?" Song Tantan moved away quickly, keeping a safe distance from him.

Ye Moxun: "..."

"Why do you have so many strange thoughts in your head? You always think the worst of people?"

"Isn't it because you always do things that people misunderstand? No, I didn't misunderstand, you just did a lot of strange things." Sometimes he would suddenly pinch her cheek while talking, or reach out and tug at the little tufts on her head, and he would always stare at her hand and drool.

Now he finally made his move, grabbing her hand and squeezing and poking it, as if he had found some fun toy.

Suddenly, the song "Little Sister Carrying a Doll" popped into Song Tantan's mind. She shuddered in horror, her large, clear eyes fixed on Ye Moxun. "Do you like toys made of dolls?"

“I don’t like it. I never play with dolls.” His previous toys were all limited-edition racing car models. What a joke! He would never stoop to playing with dolls, even if he lived two lifetimes. But, “toys made of dolls, what are those?”

Song Tantan looked at him with a scrutinizing gaze for a while, and when she was sure he really didn't know, she didn't say anything more, and turned her head away arrogantly, ignoring him.

"Tantan, let's be family from now on. My uncle and I can live with you, okay?" Ye Moxun made conversation by moving closer to her.

Song Tantan moved further away, her voice a mix of cuteness and fierceness as she scolded, "Don't sit over here. Keep your distance. It's impossible for me to take care of you. Once this rain is over, my aunt and I will leave. Your uncle's injuries have almost healed, so you don't need to follow us anymore."

“My uncle’s injuries will take at least six months to fully recover, and I’m not in good health either. We’ve lived together for over a month, Tan Tan. How can you bear to leave us and watch us starve without food, and be robbed by barbarians and bandits if we go out?”

"When did we become so close? How come I didn't know? If you want to cling to me, just say so. You just want the food in my supermarket. Talking won't work; you have to prove it with your actions." Song Tantan's big eyes darted around.

"for example?"

"For example, you could trade me silver or gold ingots. I love collecting gold and silver treasures." Song Tantan made no attempt to hide her money-grubbing nature.

"Okay, I'll work hard to earn silver to exchange for food with you." Ye Moxun said earnestly. Bickering with Song Tantan like this made the time pass a little less unbearably.

A few days later, the heavy rain finally stopped, and the sun shone brightly. Everyone came out of their homes, unsure whether to be happy or worried. They had been waiting for this rain for so long, but it made them anxious. They knew they couldn't hold on for more than seven days; if the rain didn't stop, everything would be submerged.

"What is this thing? It can actually keep out the rain. A few nights ago, someone knocked on the door in the middle of the night, and when I went out, I saw this thing. There was a picture inside that said it could keep out the rain. We've been getting by with this thing these past few days." Zhu Xiu and the two women holding children started chattering.

“We received it too. We’ve never seen this before. It must be a gift from God.”

"What does God mean by this? It rained so hard it collapsed our roof, and now they're sending us something to keep us dry?"

At first, the crowd couldn't understand Heaven's perplexing actions, but they quickly realized that they couldn't question Heaven. Heaven had its own reasons for everything it did, and it wouldn't allow ordinary mortals like them to pry into its secrets.

So the group of people knelt on the ground and worshipped the heavens, thanking God for His mercy.

Song Tantan really wanted to shout at them: That's enough, hurry up and find a way to fix the roof, otherwise it will rain again one day, relying on the plastic sheeting to keep out the rain is not realistic.

Heaven is deliberately making things difficult for everyone. Wake up and be self-sufficient.

After everyone finished their prayers to Heaven, they carefully put away the plastic film, intending to take it home and enshrine it. Since it was given by Heaven, they believed it would surely bless them with peace and prosperity.

Song Tantan sighed and thought, "Fine, let it be. Let them continue this beautiful misunderstanding."

Song Zhuiyan led everyone up the mountain to cut tree branches to repair the roof, but the thatched roof would be blown away by a strong wind and leak when it rained heavily, so it was really no good.
