Chapter Twenty-Five: Let's Go Together

Zhang Qingyu bit her lip, tears welling up in her eyes. Once Song Zhuiyan and the others left, she and her sister would be at their mercy. But they couldn't abandon Uncle Zhao, and they had no reason to stop Song Zhuiyan and the others from leaving.

Just as they were wondering what to do, they suddenly heard the sound of horses' hooves coming from ahead. Zhang Qingyu and Zhang Qingling craned their necks to look, and when they saw Zhong Qingyi driving the carriage, the two sisters burst into tears even more. They hurriedly went to meet her, and stumbled and fell.

Ignoring the pain in their feet, the two women immediately helped each other up and continued running forward. That was their parents' carriage; their parents and younger brother must still be alive.

"Father, Mother, Hong'er..." Zhang Qingyu cried and called out.

The carriage curtain was lifted, and out stepped Song Tantan, holding a small baby in her chubby little hands. Because her arms were short, she was having some difficulty holding the baby.

“Shen’er, I am Shen’er.” Zhang Qingling tugged at Zhang Qingyu’s sleeve and cried as she spoke.

"Miss Song, where did you find my younger brother? Where are my parents and older brother? Have you seen them?" Zhang Qingyu asked in a trembling voice, actually already having a bad feeling.

"We walked along the main road for about a quarter of an hour, then turned onto a side road. After walking for about a quarter of an hour, we heard a loud crash in the distance, followed by the neighing of horses. When we arrived, we saw several burly men standing on the edge of a cliff with knives. The cliff was very high, and the bottom was shrouded in thick fog, so we couldn't see what was happening below. We heard from the men that a carriage had fallen down, and there were three people inside..."

Zhong Qingyi fought with the other party. With Zhong Qingyi's martial arts skills, she was able to kill those people, but some of them were very cunning. During the fight, they suddenly threw something at Zhong Qingyi. Zhong Qingyi had excellent eyesight and saw that the other party had thrown a small baby, so she caught it.

In just a moment, those people escaped.

“We only found a carriage, and we didn’t see any other bodies around there. Otherwise, we would have brought them back so you could identify them.” Song Tantan’s little mouth kept babbling, clearly recounting what had happened.

Upon hearing this, Zhang Qingyu fainted immediately. Her vision went black for a moment, but she soon regained consciousness. With a sob in her voice, she said, "I need to find my parents. Could this young master take me to the cliff where the incident happened?" She wanted to confirm.

"This world is chaotic, full of bad people. That place is so dangerous, I think you'd better not go back. What if those bad guys are still lying in ambush there? By the way, are you being chased by enemies? If so, you need to be even more careful." Zhu Xiu couldn't hold back her words, and she didn't want the Zhang family girl who appeared halfway through their journey to put them in danger.

Zhong Qingyi hesitated for a moment. He subconsciously looked at Song Zhuiyan, but she pretended not to see his plea for help. She didn't care about his private affairs.

“If you really want to take the risk, let my uncle tell you the location, and you can go there yourselves. We still have a long way to go and can’t accompany you to find the person.” Ye Moxun declined the other party’s request on Zhong Qingyi’s behalf.

They were rescued because they happened to run into each other, and they weren't very familiar with each other. Why should they risk their lives again for her? If she wants to find her parents, she should go with her sister and not drag her uncle into it.

Zhang Qingyu was in tears, and I looked at Zhong Qingyi with pity, but the latter did not look at her. She felt desolate, lowered her head, gritted her teeth, and said in a low voice, "I was too presumptuous. I shouldn't have made such a request. We won't go to find our parents. We want to go with you. Is that alright?"

Zhong Qingyi remained silent, pretending not to hear.

“Sure.” Song Zhuiyan didn’t mind. The other party wanted their protection, and they were just eager for their carriage, so it was even.

"It's not safe here. I'm afraid those people will catch up with us. We'd better leave quickly," Zhong Qingyi said cautiously.

The carriage that Song Tantan and Zhong Qingyi found was a cargo cart; it didn't have a carriage, just a flatbed cart. There were still quite a few things on the cart, but it was enough for the younger children to sit on.

The Zhang sisters' carriage was quite large; even after lifting Uncle Zhao up, there was still room for two people to sit. Zhang Qingyu, holding her young brother, and Zhang Qingling squeezed into the carriage with Uncle Zhao.

Finally, she no longer had to walk and could ride in a carriage. Song Tantan was satisfied. She even wanted to learn how to drive the carriage, but Song Zhuiyan disagreed.

"Let Aunt Zhu drive the carriage. I'll teach you after I've learned how," Song Zhuiyan said coldly.

"Actually, I only learned to drive a donkey cart at home. My family is poor and can't afford an ox, let alone a horse," Zhu Xiu said with an embarrassed smile.

"I see you're doing a great job. It seems the skills for driving a donkey cart and a horse-drawn cart are similar. Luckily, you know how." Song Zhuiyan smiled slightly. In modern times, she usually rides motorcycles and drives hand tractors. She can drive many kinds of vehicles, but she has never driven an oxcart before.

There was another group of people walking. Seeing Ah Zhu and the others struggling to keep up with the carriage, Song Tantan felt a little guilty. If only there were one more people and one more carriage.

Horse-drawn carriages weren't readily available. Ordinary people couldn't afford livestock; not every household owned oxen or donkeys, let alone horses.

Despite being in a horse-drawn carriage, the pace was slow due to the large number of pedestrians. After a day's journey, everyone was exhausted and stopped in front of a dilapidated temple.

"It's getting dark soon, so it's not a good time to travel. Let's rest here for the night." He had just checked the road he came from, and the bandits who were chasing Zhang Qingyu's family were not following them.

"It seems the people chasing the Zhang family aren't enemies, but rather they unfortunately encountered bandits on the road," Zhong Qingyi said in a low voice.

"It's also possible that the other party only wanted to kill Zhang Qingyu's parents, and didn't intend to wipe out their entire family," Song Zhuiyan replied calmly.

Is that so? That seems to make sense.
