Chapter 187 Xu Qingyun

Zhao Dahai and Zhao Xiangbei were completely bewildered. These were just ordinary eggs, weren't they? Why were they called preserved eggs?

Zhao Dahai was already quite skilled at driving the carriage, and they arrived at Changning Town in an hour.

When they arrived at the backyard of He Tiantian's shop, the two of them skillfully unloaded everything from the carriage.

Of course, that also includes those two baskets of preserved eggs.

After finishing the work in the backyard, Zhao Dahai gave the horse some water. The two then quickly joined the front hall to help carry dishes and run errands.

Liu Chuyu finally had a chance to catch his breath. He had become quite familiar with Zhao Dahai and Zhao Xiangbei over the past few days.

And I quite like the sea and the northward journey, after all, men can talk more with each other.

"Hey Dahai, Xiangbei, could you two arrive a little earlier next time? My legs are killing me from running all this way." Liu Chuyu rubbed her lower back and found a stool to sit down and catch her breath.

Zhao Dahai took the lacquer tray and began serving the dishes to the guests.

Upon hearing Liu Chuyu's words, Zhao Dahai didn't even glance at him before saying, "Any earlier and the horse's legs would break."

Faced with the choice between Liu Chuyu's broken leg and the horse's broken leg, Zhao Dahai chose the former.

Of course, he didn't know Liu Chuyu's true identity.

Liu Chuyu pursed her lips and didn't say anything.

After finishing their work in the morning, Zhao Dahai and Zhao Xiangbei decided to leave.

He Tiantian went upstairs and carried Xiao Mingzhu down, with Wujin and Yezi following happily behind.

The two dogs seemed eager to return to the village.

Zhao Xiangbei helped carry the things onto the carriage, and the two big dogs quickly jumped onto the carriage themselves.

Remembering the preserved eggs, Zhao Dahai said to He Tiantian, "Auntie, Wanzi asked us to bring the preserved eggs from home today. We've put them in the kitchen for you."

He Tiantian's eyes lit up, and she quickly went to the kitchen.

These preserved eggs have been prepared for so long, they're finally ready to eat.

Zhao Denglong was examining the preserved egg. She had definitely made it, but she didn't know how to eat it.

She just peeled one out; it was dark and tasted weird.

Zhao Denglong looked at He Tiantian and said somewhat dejectedly, "Mother, it seems like the preserved eggs turned out badly. Two baskets of eggs were wasted."

Zhao Denglong felt like crying; she should have done less.

It's all her fault for being too confident in herself.

He Tiantian stepped forward to check it, then smelled it under her nose, and said with a smile, "It's not bad, it's as successful as it could possibly be."

This is a perfect cold dish to offer in the restaurant, replacing the cucumber salad.

Before leaving, He Tiantian told Zhao Denglong how to eat preserved eggs.

Of course, this is a rather extreme situation. People who like it will love it, while people who don't will find it completely unacceptable.

He Tiantian suggested that a few plates could be placed at the front counter for customers to sample for free.

After explaining all this, He Tiantian got into the carriage.

The carriage was equipped with soft cushions, so you didn't have to worry about being jostled around while sitting on it.

Zhao Xiangbei sat on the edge of the chase, with Wujin and Coconut lying beside him.

"Second sister-in-law, your eldest sister-in-law will definitely be very happy when you go back this time. She keeps talking about you." Zhao Xiangbei's eyes were bright.

He Tiantian smiled and said, "It just so happens that I have something I'd like to discuss with my sister-in-law."

Zhao Xiangbei didn't ask what happened; as a grown man, he felt it was inappropriate to pry into matters between women.

Because Xiao Mingzhu was on the bus, Zhao Dahai drove slower than usual.

As the car drove along a mountain path, Zhao Dahai saw what appeared to be a person lying in the middle of the road ahead.

"Phew..." Zhao Dahai slowed down a bit more.

"What's wrong?" Zhao Xiangbei looked ahead curiously.

"Is that person lying there?" Zhao Xiangbei asked, somewhat uncertainly.

He Tiantian looked around and nodded. "Dahai, let's go check. Is someone in trouble?"

The carriage stopped as it approached, and Zhao Dahai and Zhao Xiangbei got out and went to check it out.

He was an old man with white hair and beard.

The old man looked quite old; his eyes were half-closed, and he was breathing heavily. His lips, in particular, were chapped and parched.

The wound scabbed over, then split open again, and blood seeped out.

He Tiantian couldn't see it very clearly, but she guessed that this person was probably fleeing here because of the drought.

She happened to have a water bottle with her, so she tossed it to Zhao Dahai.

"Da Hai, quickly give him some water and let the old man lie down."

Zhao Dahai took the kettle and poured water into the old man's mouth little by little.

The old man seemed to still have some sense; he had drunk quite a bit.

He Tiantian held Xiao Mingzhu and watched for a while. When she saw the old man slowly wake up, she asked, "Grandpa, what's your name?"

Xu Qingyun opened his eyes and looked at the three young people in front of him.

He managed to speak, "My surname is Xu. Thank you... thank you for saving me."

"Grandpa, don't be so polite. Why are you lying here all alone? Where are your family members?" He Tiantian gave the old man the rest of the water. "Take this and keep it for your journey."

Xu Qingyun excitedly took the kettle, her eyes glistening with tears.

He could hardly believe it. "This, this is for me?" In these times of drought, water is precious and hard to come by, yet he had received this whole jug of water for nothing.

He Tiantian smiled and said, "This is for you, please take it, old man."

Xu Qingyun wanted to get up to express his gratitude, but suddenly found that his ankle was sore and he couldn't exert any strength.
