Chapter 319 More Than Good at Making Things Happen

Zhao Fengnian's inner thoughts: He absolutely will not allow anyone to covet his rabbits! He wants to fatten them up and then sell them in town for money.

Zhao Wanzi said that her aunt paid her more than forty taels of silver at the end of the year for the money from selling the rabbits she raised.

Zhao Fengnian's eyes widened in disbelief. He had never dreamed of such a large sum of money.

Therefore, Zhao Fengnian became even more determined to continue raising rabbits.

Cheng coughed, raised her eyebrows, and said earnestly, "Fengnian, you have to go up the mountain to cut grass every day anyway. Why don't you cut more grass starting tomorrow and feed these chicks too?"

Oh, so that's where he was waiting.

Zhao Fengnian understood, but he was no longer the same person he had been before.

He used to be the best friend of Sister Xiaocao and Sister Wanzi, and he learned some of their skills.

Zhao Fengnian gave a harmless smile, "Okay, no problem."

When Cheng saw that her scheme had succeeded, she was overjoyed, her mouth stretching to the back of her ears. See? She knew this child would listen to her.

But the next second, Zhao Fengnian asked, "How much does my third aunt pay me a day? I won't work for free if I don't get paid."

Cheng was speechless for a moment, and after realizing what had happened, a surge of anger rushed to the top of his head.

"You little brat, your aunt asks you for money as soon as she asks you to do some chores? I think I've wasted my time raising you."

Zhao Fengnian wasn't angry. He retorted, "I won't do it if I'm not paid. I'd rather go work for my older brothers at the chicken farm; at least they provide for my food and drink."

Cheng was so angry she almost fainted, but she didn't dare to argue with Zhao Fengnian.

So that the old woman inside wouldn't hear the noise and come out to play with her.

Unfortunately, the Cheng family had to bear the consequences of their own actions.

She's all alone at home now, with no one to ask her for help. She's managing everything inside and outside the house.

Cooking, washing clothes, chopping firewood, sweeping the floor, wiping the table, and now raising chickens.

One person raises more than twenty chickens, and every day she has to go out to dig and chop wild vegetables, and also clean up chicken droppings. She might as well be worked to death.

Thinking about all these things, Cheng sometimes felt that it would have been better if the family hadn't separated.

Before the family split up, she could slack off on chores, but after the split, she couldn't slack off at all. She couldn't just abandon the family.

Moreover, seeing that his older brother has a good job and earns a lot of money, and that both of his sons have gone to work at the chicken farm, who knows when their lucky day will come.

But looking at their family, they lived in poverty, and her husband and two sons were still working in the mine.

They get the least amount of money but do the hardest work.

"What a terrible day this is," Cheng thought to herself as she put the chicks into the chicken coop.

Suddenly my hand felt warm, and a large puddle of chicken droppings landed on the back of my hand.

Ms. Cheng felt so nauseous she almost vomited. She quickly rubbed her hands vigorously on the muddy ground and then went to fetch water to wash them repeatedly.

He Tiantian and Hong Erniang never expected that they would see such gossip on the way home for a meal.

Hong Erniang nudged He Tiantian's arm, "Little sister, you really understand that Cheng family. You guessed it perfectly."

"Speaking of which, I ran into that Cheng family member in town last time. She insisted on inviting me for tea, but I didn't go."

Hong Erniang suddenly remembered the incident before the New Year and couldn't help but mention it.

He Tiantian was somewhat surprised, "When did this happen? How come I didn't know?"

Hong Erniang then recounted what had happened that day, and at the end she complained, "I knew long ago that Cheng Shi was no good person, and I was too lazy to waste my breath arguing with her."

He Tiantian sighed silently in her heart.

Although I knew that this Cheng woman was shameless, I never expected her to be even more shameless than a city wall.

For the next ten days or so, everyone was incredibly busy. They left early and returned late every day, sometimes so exhausted that they didn't even have the strength to speak.

He Tiantian observed that the chicken farm was operating smoothly every day. Zhao Tingzhang supervised the work from morning till night, and the Da Niu and Tie Zhu families were also busy at the chicken farm from morning till night.

The people at the chicken farm were also quite familiar with these tasks and were able to do them with ease.

He Shitou and Zhao Xiaohe doted on the two foals every day, wishing they could eat and live with them.

In the blink of an eye, the whole spring turned deep green, and after several light rains, the rice paddies were full of water.

He Tiantian had previously asked He Shitou to release a batch of fish fry into her own paddy field, and she also bought some from the mall and released them in as well.

After so long, the fish must have grown quite a bit by now.
