The food box also contained three portions of snacks and dishes that I had brought, enough to fill a whole table.
Of course, He Tiantian paid for all the meals. With adults around, it wasn't the children's place to spend money.
Miss Guo looked at the table full of dishes and silently swallowed her saliva.
The roast chicken and pastries in that food box must be delicious. Just looking at them makes my mouth water.
He Tiantian tore off two chicken legs from the roast chicken and put one in each of the two children's bowls.
"Studying must be tough. Here, have a chicken leg to nourish yourself."
Just as he finished speaking, a gentle voice came from above, "Teaching is quite tiring, could you make up for it?"
Upon hearing the unfamiliar male voice, both He Tiantian and Hong Erniang couldn't help but look at the man in front of them.
Zhao Wanzi and Miss Guo looked very surprised and shouted, "Master Meng!"
At first, Hong Erniang was very curious, but after seeing the man's appearance, she wished she could dig a hole and crawl into it.
This academy seems too small. Isn't this the man she just asked where the outhouse was?
And coincidentally, they met again in the cafeteria; it was Maruko's teacher.
This is really... the academy is so small.
Seeing the two children's reactions, He Tiantian immediately understood.
She quickly stood up. "It's Master Meng, please have a seat."
Previously, He Tiantian had heard Zhao Wanzi mention Master Meng when she went home, and upon hearing this title, she assumed he was an extremely old person.
But looking at it today, not everyone called "Master" is old.
He became a teacher at such a young age; he must be very accomplished.
Master Meng did not stand on ceremony and sat down next to him with his lunch.
Perfect timing, Maruko's parents are here too. They might have something to discuss with him today.
Zhao Wanzi enthusiastically tore off a piece of roasted chicken and handed it over, saying, "Master Meng, please try my sister's cooking."
When Master Meng smiled, it was as if all the flowers bloomed in an instant, like the warm spring sun.
"Okay, you're welcome."
While eating, Zhao Wanzi looked at Master Meng expectantly. Knowing that Master Meng had tasted a bite of the roasted chicken, she quickly asked, "How is it? How is it? Have you never eaten such delicious roasted chicken before?"
Master Meng was very satisfied. He nodded and said, "Indeed, even though they are both roast chickens, this one is not as delicious."
"Right! I'm saying, if you like it, Master Meng, I can have my mother send it to you every day..."
Once Zhao Wanzi gets into a chatterbox, her words can go on and on.
Such boastful claims made He Tiantian extremely embarrassed.
Should she stop it or not?
If she stops her, it makes her seem petty. If she doesn't stop her, what kind of behavior is it to let her deliver this every day?
Fortunately, Hong Erniang spoke up to defuse the situation, saying, "Wanzi, don't talk nonsense. Master Meng has a family."
However, Zhao Wanzi didn't think anything of it. She argued, "My teacher is all alone. Where would he get a wife?"
These words made Master Meng look embarrassed for a moment, but then he laughed out loud.
"Wanzi is right. But eating roast chicken every day is definitely not a good idea. Being able to have a bite today is a treat for us."
He Tiantian and Hong Erniang were also quite surprised; this Master Meng looked to be in his mid-thirties.
He's young for a teacher, but he's in his thirties and still single. Well... that's hardly young anymore.
He Tiantian, in keeping with the spirit of a modern parent, inquired about Wanzi's performance at school and her homework completion.
I also found out what level Zhao Wanzi was at in this class.
Mencius made it very clear that, overall, He Tiantian shouldn't worry too much.
Although Zhao Wanzi started school late, she is a very motivated child. She only had some difficulty adapting at the beginning, but now she's almost there.
Sometimes, even long after school had ended, Master Meng could still see Zhao Wanzi diligently studying in the classroom.
In short, he is indeed a promising student.
The academy offered a lot of math classes, which happened to be something Zhao Wanzi was quite interested in.
After chatting for a while, Master Meng got up to take his leave.
Just then, He Tiantian and the others had almost finished eating, so they thought it would be good to go out together.
We didn't finish all the pastries we brought; there were still a lot left.
He Tiantian gave some to the two children, and then stuffed the rest into Master Meng's hands.
Even if she gave the teacher a gift, hopefully Master Meng will pay more attention to their Wanzi.
As she stepped out of the academy, Hong Erniang breathed a sigh of relief.
Fortunately, the awkwardness has subsided.
"Let's look at some more shops and decide on a deal today," Hong Erniang suggested.
