Chapter Fifty Theft

He Tiantian didn't take it to heart; she was now focused on raising her dog.

She had always loved animals, especially in her modern life. However, keeping pets wasn't allowed in her university dorm, so her wish to have a dog remained unfulfilled.

Now that she could finally fulfill her long-held wish, she was incredibly excited.

Sister-in-law Yulan led her to Zhang the hunter's house. Zhang the hunter was over thirty years old and still unmarried, living a lonely life.

He Tiantian thought that in ancient times, if someone was over thirty and still unmarried, there must be something wrong with them. The biggest flaw, she guessed, was being ugly, with a thick beard and a big scar.

But when she actually saw Zhang the Hunter, her imagination was completely overturned.

This hunter was tall and strong, even more robust than Wang Dazhuang. Aside from being a bit dark-skinned, his features were actually quite regular and not unattractive.

"Hey, Zhang the hunter. I just wanted to ask if you have any puppies at home. If you do, could you give me one? I won't take it for free." Sister Yulan stepped forward and greeted him.

Zhang the hunter didn't speak, but glanced at Sister Yulan and He Tiantian behind her with his deep, dark eyes.

After looking around for a while, she opened the door and went inside. Sister-in-law Yulan pulled He Tiantian along and followed her in.

Zhang the hunter's backyard was quite large. He Tiantian saw a shed set up inside. Various animal pelts were hanging inside, such as wolf skins, wild boar skins, and even a tiger skin... It gave He Tiantian a chill down her spine.

Hanging under the eaves were some pheasants, rabbits, and some meat such as thighs of unknown species; there seemed to be quite a lot of it.

After looking around, He Tiantian was even more puzzled.

This hunter has so much meat to eat, why doesn't any girl want to marry into his family? It's really strange!

"You can choose yourselves." Zhang the hunter led them to a small kennel, went inside, brought out the big dog, and then locked it in the house.

He Tiantian peeked inside and saw a litter of dark puppies on the straw, about seven or eight of them.

These puppies are full-term and plump, currently curled up asleep. Full-term puppies can survive even if separated from their mother.

However, He Tiantian was a little surprised. She had just seen that the mother dog was white, so how come the puppies she gave birth to were all gray and black?

Zhang the hunter seemed to sense her confusion and said expressionlessly, "These dogs are the offspring of the family's female dog and the wolves in the mountains. They are very wild. If you want to raise them, you should be prepared."

No wonder……

It turns out he has wolf-like genes...

However, He Tiantian didn't think much of it and immediately took out the ten coins she had prepared beforehand and handed them over.

"Then I'll pick two to take with me, is that alright?"

Zhang the hunter looked down at the ten coins in He Tiantian's hand and frowned slightly.

He Tiantian felt a little uneasy. Could it be that she hadn't prepared enough money?

"No money required, pick any dog you like." After saying that, he turned around and went back into the house.

Sister-in-law Yulan tugged at He Tiantian's sleeve, "Don't mind him, that's just how he is, he doesn't talk much usually."

Of the eight puppies, He Tiantian picked out a gray one and a black one, which were also the two biggest and fattest ones.

The puppies whimpered and whimpered, and He Tiantian gathered them in her arms and carried them home.

The night was deep, and only the snow piled up outside shone with a bright white light.

The wind was very strong at night, making it hard to open one's eyes.

In the darkness, Zhao San and Zhang Wulai and a few others sneaked up the mine carrying bags.

"Third Brother, do you think your idea will work?"

"Why not? If I had known this thing was so good, I would have brought it home earlier!"

"You scoundrel, since you're full, why don't you help me out!"

Several men went down into the mine without permission, each carrying a bag of coal, and went home before dawn.

After a busy night, Zhao San returned home carrying a bag of stolen coal.

Zhao Ergou was sleeping soundly on the bed, as if he were dead. Zhao San's loud noises didn't wake him up at all.

At dawn the next day, Zhao San kicked Zhao Ergou out of bed.

"Sleep?! Get up and cook! Do you want your dad to starve to death?"

Although Zhao Ergou was only fourteen years old, he was already taller than his father. He was naturally a bully who preyed on the weak and feared the strong, and lately, under Zhao San's control, he had become even more timid.

Although Zhao Ergou was very unwilling, he was afraid of being beaten, so he could only get up crying.

He had only gone halfway when he turned back. Looking at his father, who was still fast asleep on the bed, Zhao Ergou said dejectedly, "Dad, we're out of food and firewood. How are we going to cook?"

Zhao San had stayed up all night, but he was so hungry that he couldn't sleep soundly. Hearing Zhao Ergou's words, he felt even more agitated.

He got up in a huff, emptied half of the bag of coal from the corner of the wall, and then carried the remaining half bag out of the house.

"I'm not eating. Go figure it out yourself."

After seeing his father leave, Zhao Ergou became interested in the pile of black stuff that had been poured out.

What is this? Why is it so dark?

This black is exactly the same as the black on my father's clothes when he came back from work. Could it be...?

Zhao Ergou quickly threw the coal in his hand away, then slammed the door shut and huddled inside, too scared to go out.

Zhao San, carrying a half-full bag of coal, sneaked into Widow Zhang's house and knocked on the door. Widow Zhang was cooking on the stove and seemed quite displeased upon hearing the knock.

Zhao San has been coming so frequently lately that she's getting really annoyed.

Widow Zhang reluctantly opened the door, but when she saw the bag Zhao San was carrying, she quickly pulled him inside.

"Is it a coal ball? How did you get it?" Widow Zhang stared wide-eyed.

Zhao San chuckled twice, then swaggered into the house and sat down. He said like a big shot, "Have you cooked yet? I've been busy all night and I'm starving."

"It's done, it's done. Wait here, I'll get it for you right away." Widow Zhang hurriedly went out to the kitchen and brought over all the cooked food.

Zhao San wolfed down his food and then wiped his mouth.

"This half-bag of coal is for you. I'll get you more after we've burned it all." With that, Zhao San kicked the bag that was at his feet.

Widow Zhang was overjoyed and quickly opened the bag to take out the coal inside.

Her room was freezing cold, and she desperately wanted to light this thing to warm up.

Fortunately, there was still some unburnt wood in the stove, so Widow Zhang happily brought it over and lit the coal in the house.

To avoid gossip, she made sure to keep all the doors and windows in the house tightly closed.

After bringing the two puppies home, He Tiantian was worried that they wouldn't survive the cold weather, so she secretly bought some goat milk powder from the mall to feed them.

"Goodness, these two dogs look really strong. No wonder they're descendants of wolves." Sister-in-law Yulan looked at the two silly little guys and found them quite adorable.
