Chapter 2: Stealing a Man to Take Home and Marry

Xiaoman tore off a rabbit leg and ate it while thinking: We have no past grievances or recent grudges? Could I have arrested the wrong person?

Han Bin saw that Xiaoman was eating and assumed he hadn't been able to persuade her. He then considered using force. He felt that Xiaoman was no match for him in terms of strength. He believed that as long as he could trick Xiaoman, he could subdue her. "Miss, I have five gold bars on me."

Xiaoman stood up from the ground.

Han Bin felt there was a chance, and gripped the rope tightly with both hands.

What are you doing in Hanjiazhuang?

Han Bin was taken aback. Why ask about the Han family village instead of the gold bars?

Xiaoman asked again.

"Visiting relatives."

"Visiting relatives?" Does that mean visiting relatives?

"Yes. I distinguished myself on the battlefield, and the army gave me half a month's leave to go home and visit my family."

Originally, visiting relatives meant going home to see one's family.

A battlefield? Does this mean men go to war? What are the women doing? Cooking and embroidering?

Xiaoman pointed to Han Bin's chest. "Wearing a red flower and playing music?" Is it necessary to do this when going home? The customs here are really strange.

Han Bin was a little embarrassed: "Didn't I just receive a first-class merit? The village chief thought such an honor should be known to everyone in the surrounding villages. Knowing I was coming back today, he brought red flowers and a drum band to pick me up. Our village band is a makeshift troupe; they only know two kinds of music, one joyful and one sorrowful. Girl, I'll give you all my gold bars, please let me go. I have elderly parents and young children to support; if I die, they'll have no way to survive."

Wang Xiaoman glanced at Han Bin. He had dark skin and strong, muscular build, looking like a soldier. Since she'd made a mistake, she couldn't keep him hanging on. Xiaoman walked towards Han Bin.

Han Bin was secretly delighted.

As soon as Xiaoman got close, Han Bin tried to clamp Xiaoman's neck with his legs.

Han Bin was fast, but Xiao Man was even faster. The moment he lifted his leg, Xiao Man had already snapped the rope around his head.

Thump! Han Bin fell to the ground.

Xiaoman helped him up. As for Han Bin's attack on her, Xiaoman didn't take it to heart at all. Although this person was a man, he was still a soldier and had even made meritorious contributions. If he didn't resist when he was caught, that would be a miracle.

Han Bin was both surprised and delighted.

He was surprised that Xiaoman had put him down before he could even see clearly. He was pleased that it seemed there was still room for negotiation. Also, Xiaoman was so capable; it would be great if he could win her over.

"I won't kill you, and I don't want your gold bars."

Happiness came too suddenly, and Han Bin was a little stunned. "Then what do you want? I can only be promoted to regimental commander when I go back. Even if I am promoted to regimental commander, it is impossible for me to give you whatever you want."

"Don't worry, I... I won't make things difficult for you." After untying the ropes on Han Bin's hands, Xiaoman gave him a rabbit leg: "Eat it."

"ah?!"

"What? Aren't you going to eat?"

"Eat." Han Bin ate heartily, then wiped his hands with some leaves. "Miss, is your surname Wang?"

"Um."

"Where are you from?" Han Bin just wanted to test the waters and see if Xiaoman was easy to win over. To his surprise, Xiaoman readily told him, "Hongqi Village."

"Huh?" She just revealed her hometown so easily?! Are you kidding me? "Miss Wang, are you really from Hongqi Village?"

Xiaoman nodded.

"Then..." Han Bin felt that Xiaoman also wanted to abandon darkness and embrace the light: "Miss, are you from the other side?"

People on the other side? Xiaoman looked towards Hongqi Village, but there was no river. It seemed that what she said wasn't what she thought. Besides, didn't she just say that she was from Hongqi Village?

Xiaoman remained silent, and Han Bin realized he might have guessed wrong. "Then... is the girl a bandit?"

Xiaoman glared at Han Bin. What kind of look was that? How did she look like a bandit? She really shouldn't have put him down.

Han Bin rubbed his nose. It seemed not. "Girl, who exactly are you?"

Xiaoman glanced at Han Bin. She thought to herself: The rope has been untied, the meat has been eaten, why isn't this man leaving? If he doesn't leave, she can't very well send him away. After all, she was the one who captured him. She'd kept him hanging for so long; it wouldn't be right to just let him go without saying anything.

"Girl, since you don't want to tell me who you are, can you tell me why you arrested me?"

Xiaoman thought to herself: Because I don't have the original owner's memories and don't know the original owner's fiancé, I grabbed the wrong person. But... she could only think this in her heart. If she said it out loud, people would probably burn her like a monster. Xiaoman gave Han Bin another rabbit leg: "Eat meat."

"Oh, okay. Girl, why are you grabbing me?"

It seems this person won't leave without an explanation. Xiaoman thought for a moment: "The people from Han Family Village stole my...my fiancé. I'm so angry, I'm going to steal someone from Han Family Village to marry."

*Thud!* The rabbit leg in Han Bin's hand fell to the ground: "Miss... what did you say?"

“I said, the people from Hanjiazhuang snatched a man from me, and I’m going to snatch a man back from Hanjiazhuang.”

"You mean you want to take me home as your husband?"

What is a husband? "I'm going to take you back and marry you."

"marriage?!"

"Hmm." They should run away now, right?

Han Bin didn't know what to say.

Xiaoman glanced at Han Bin. Why wasn't he running away? Was he scared out of his wits? Or… Xiaoman looked at Han Bin again; he was dark-skinned and strong, unlikely to find a husband. No… Xiaoman looked at Han Bin again; she should have taken a closer look when she snatched him away. But, she had taken him back herself, so she accepted it. “Let’s go, come with me… um… come home with me.”

"What?!" Han Bin felt that all the shocks he had experienced before combined hadn't been as bad as what he had suffered in just one day. "Go home with you?"

"Yes. Didn't you want to... um... me, come home with me?"

"When did I say I wanted to go home with you?"

Xiaoman blinked in confusion: "You didn't run away."

"I didn't run because I was too shocked. No, why would I run?"

"I'm going to take you back to marry me. I've told you that, why aren't you running away? What else could it be but wanting to marry me?"

"Yes... Oh dear, didn't I tell you? I'm so shocked."

"What's the big deal? What's so shocking about this?"

"It's shocking that someone would kidnap a man to marry? Let me tell you, this is a new society, kidnapping is illegal."

"Yeah?"

"Um."

"Then you can leave."

"ah?!"

"What do you mean 'ah'? You can go. I'm a good person, I haven't broken the law."

"Can you...can you...can you be serious for once?"

"I'm serious. Since you say this is a new society and robbing people is illegal, then I won't rob you. You can go now." Finally, she had a reason to get rid of this ugly man.

"You! You!" Han Bin pointed at Xiao Man's nose and roared, "Are you playing me for a fool? Huh?!"

"No." Xiaoman's ears twitched. "Someone's coming. I'm going back. You should go back too."

"Where is anyone?"

Xiaoman pointed down the mountain.

Han Bin looked back and said, "You can't leave. The police are here."
