Chapter Forty-Eight: The Wolf Pack
Gu Zuozuo didn't hear the system's complaints; her attention was drawn to a figure that had suddenly joined the fray.
Hsieh Chin-yu?
He actually came too. She remembered that the cowshed was not close to here, right?
"What are you spacing out for? Do you want to die?"
The man quickly shielded the stunned girl behind him, his face filled with anxiety.
Gu Zuozuo stumbled as she was pulled, and could only silently put away the still-dripping dagger in her hand.
Luckily, she stopped in time, otherwise the man would have had another hole in his body.
Xie Jinyu arrived too hastily and had no weapons, so he could only attack with punches and kicks. Every time a wolf rushed up, it was punched or kicked away before it could even touch the hem of their clothes.
Gu Zuozuo looked towards the bottom of the mountain and heard the noise coming from there. After thinking for a moment, she put the dagger in her hand into the hand of the man next to her. When she met his questioning gaze, she blinked her big eyes and fluttered her long eyelashes, looking weak and innocent.
She's a girl, and holding a dagger would leave a bad impression.
Xie Jinyu clenched her fist tightly, gripping the dagger that still held the girl's warmth firmly in her hand, her heart pounding wildly.
Realizing her own lack of composure, Xie Jinyu's eyes flashed with annoyance and shyness, but then sharpened instantly as the wolf pounced on her, and she subconsciously swung the dagger in her hand.
Well……
This dagger...
After killing several more wolves, Xie Jinyu finally realized that something was wrong with the dagger.
Unlike any of the daggers he had ever used, this dagger in his hand was light, sharp, and almost as short as a hair. No matter which part of the wolf he touched, it could strike it down in one fell swoop without any effort.
His eyes darkened, and he began to doubt again whether this girl was really the obedient, sensible, and frail daughter that Gu's parents had described.
"Gu Zhiqing! Where are you!"
"Ma Tieshu! Where are you! Are you still alive? If you are, say something!"
The chaotic and panicked shouts grew closer and closer to them, and a long line of torches was slowly approaching them.
Sensing danger, the wolf king let out a long, drawn-out howl, and the deafening roar of dozens of wolves howling together startled the snowflakes, causing them to flutter and fall in a flurry.
"Watch out, they're about to get aggressive."
Without Xie Jinyu's prompting, Gu Zuozuo's gaze was fixed on a massive black wolf. From the fierce glint in its green eyes, she knew that this was the wolf king leading the charge.
Duan Jianhua, as if his pants were on fire, led a large group of able-bodied men behind him, carrying all sorts of weapons, and charged forward.
He gasped when he met a dense mass of green eyes, almost uttering the word "mother."
If so many wolves were to enter the village silently, their village would suffer heavy losses.
"My goodness! How come there are so many?"
Ma Jianshe silently withdrew the rolling pin he was holding, his face flushing red. Oh no, with so many wolves, was he supposed to come over here with the rolling pin to entertain them while they made dumplings?
Gu Zuozuo and the other person protected Ma Tieshu as they retreated from the wolf pack. Facing the grateful, amazed, and admiring gazes of the crowd, they calmly nodded in acknowledgment.
Before the humans could react, the wolves charged at them with a howl.
