Chapter 5 Going to the Countryside (2/2)

Gu Zuozuo gave her a thumbs up. She had finally achieved her goal, reclaiming her mother's property and making the three women regret their actions.

Qi Meng's stepmother isn't actually a bad person, except that she's extremely greedy and would kill her if she took even a penny from her.

If she had her own children with her, she could at least part with a penny or two.

When they arrived at Qi Meng's place, they were willing to be fed and clothed, but they couldn't be given money. They would get teary-eyed at the mention of money. In the end, they not only didn't get a penny, but also got a scolding from their own father.

From then on, Qi Meng's biggest wish was to successfully squeeze a large sum of money out of her stepmother, so that she would feel sorry for her.

"Zuo Zuo, don't worry, we both have families to help us. It's just you. Uncle Gu and Aunt Gu aren't home, so my parents are worried about you being all alone. They even prepared two sets of things for you."

Uncle Gu and Aunt Gu's accident happened suddenly. When their family members learned the news and wanted to intervene, they were told that the Gu couple were fine and had been released.

But they never saw the two people again after that. It was as if those two grown men had vanished into thin air, and the family tried everything to find them.

Gu Zuozuo patted the little girl's back comfortingly. Why did her eyes turn red as she talked?

"I'll thank my godmother and godfather later. Come on, let's go shopping."

She wouldn't refuse politely, otherwise the couple would probably start reminiscing about the past with her again. The original owner was always too formal, and every time they met, she would be dragged into reminiscing about the past, which almost became a psychological trauma for her.

Although it was inconvenient to buy anything in this era, as everything required ration coupons, there was one thing that later generations could not compare to.

Large quantity, good quality, excellent taste, few additives, very healthy. Nowadays, snacks are truly nutritious supplements.

The cookies are made with flour, milk powder, and sugar. The milk powder is real, pure milk powder, and the candy is real, pure candy.

Unlike later generations, which are all high-tech products, every bite is full of additives, preservatives, colorings, and saccharin. People who get tired of it after a couple of bites don't want to take a third bite.

The department store was crowded, and the three sisters managed to squeeze in with great difficulty, pulling each other along. They were so tired that some of their hair had fallen out.

"Comrade! Five pounds of White Rabbit milk candy, two pounds of fruit candy, two pounds of shortbread, one pound of coconut candy..."

Gu Zuozuo's extravagant gesture drew the attention of everyone around her, but she didn't care at all. She didn't know them, so why should she care about their gazes?

Looking at the colorful candy display case behind her, she felt her mouth watering. She loved candy the most; she was addicted to it!

"Zuo Zuo, buy less, we can't finish it all."

Meng Tian rubbed her forehead in exasperation. How could she forget that her best friend loved sweets?

Gu Zuozuo paused, forgetting that the original owner of this body, like her, loved sweets.

"It's alright, it's not much. Go buy whatever you need, don't worry about me."

"Okay, we'll buy them separately. Be careful! If anyone bullies you, don't put up with it! If you can't argue, then don't argue. Call me and Mengmeng, the two of us will handle it!"

Even the usually calm and collected Gu Zuozuo was amused by her words. Her bright, star-like eyes instantly curved into crescent moons, and her long, curled eyelashes fluttered twice, directly touching Meng Tianqi's heart.

"Wow! I think Zuo Zuo looks even more beautiful now!"

Look at that fair and tender little face, with a rosy glow, I really want to pinch it.

Seeing her intention, Qi Meng reached out and grabbed Meng Tian's eager little hand, pulling her directly to the second-floor household goods counter.

"Stop acting like a hooligan in public, or Zuo Zuo will get angry with you again. Remember when you pinched her cheek? She ignored you for a week!"

Gu Zuozuo watched with great interest the flyers flying around overhead, occasionally punctuated by shouts of vendors. This was a unique feature of this era; it wasn't as lively in later generations.

"Comrade, here's your candy!"

Holding a large bag full of candy, Gu Zuozuo suddenly felt satisfied.

In the past, her life consisted of nothing but martial arts training and studying. She was not allowed to have any other interests, and eating sweets was strictly forbidden.

The feeling of being able to eat sugar freely is just so wonderful!
