Chapter Sixty: Acquiring a Little Cutie
On the way back, Gu Zuozuo stopped in her tracks as she passed the fox's carcass.
There, a small fox kept feeding chunks of meat from its mouth to the mouth of the large, rotting fox. When the large fox didn't react, the squeaking sounds coming from its throat were anxious.
After watching for a while, Gu Zuozuo couldn't bear to look any longer, so she went to its side, grabbed it by the scruff of its neck, and lifted the tiny creature up.
"Don't they say animals have very keen senses? Can't you tell it's dead?"
System...? The hand covering the small handkerchief, her eyes brimming with tears of emotion, froze.
Its host is probably allergic to emotions, right?
The little fox seemed to understand Gu Zuozuo's meaning, and it raised its head and kept letting out mournful cries. The sound was plaintive and sad, and there were even large tears.
Do foxes cry? Are you sure it's not eye inflammation?
Gu Zuozuo clicked her tongue, put down the little fox, and plunged the vine in her hand into the ground. Before long, a deep pit appeared in front of her.
After placing the bodies of the large fox and the three smaller foxes into the pit, Gu Zuozuo glanced at the small fox that was still shedding tears and sighed, "Why does this little one have so many tears?"
With a flick of his wrist, the vines swung and the large pit was covered.
The little fox chirped even more sadly, and dropped the piece of meat from its mouth, lying motionless on the mound of dirt.
Gu Zuozuo clapped her hands, glanced at the little fox, and turned to leave.
If she doesn't go back soon, it will probably be too late.
[Host, aren't you taking it with you?]
"I won't take care of it, I don't know how to raise it, it's too much trouble."
Gu Zuozuo, who thought it was too much trouble, was proven wrong half an hour later.
A little creature was hanging on her trouser leg and refused to come down. When she tried to pull it off, it opened its sharp beak and howled loudly.
"You want to come with me? Aren't you afraid of being skinned alive and made into a scarf?"
The little fox shook off its dirty fur, and its big, green eyes, which seemed to have built-in eyeliner, looked at her with a pitiful expression.
However, Gu Zuozuo didn't believe its two-faced cuteness. Didn't it see that its sharp claws had scratched all over her pants? Cloth coupons were hard to come by!
After a long standoff between the human and the fox, Gu Zuozuo sighed again, annoyed by the nagging voice the system wanted in her head. Fine, for the sake of the wooden box it dug out for her, what's wrong with raising it?
"I'm not selling. Forget about it. If you say another word, I'll file a complaint against you."
System: You hypocritical human who says one thing but does another. You clearly want it, yet you act tough? You're a womanizer who falls in love with every girl you see! Not only did you have Xin Chun, but you've also hooked up with another one.
Shanghai.
Meng Tian and her younger brother Meng Kai had barely left the supply and marketing cooperative when they realized something was wrong.
The two exchanged a glance, but instead of turning back to check if anything was amiss, they chatted and laughed, quietly quickening their pace towards the government family compound.
Meng Tian's father is a director of a moderate position, and her mother is also a government employee. They are still on annual leave today because people keep coming to visit for the New Year, so the family has not gone out.
"Sis, do you know who's been watching us? It's been going on for so long, it's terrifying to be watched every time we go out."
I feel like I'm about to become a little fat sheep.
A boy who is just going through puberty has an unpleasant, hoarse voice.
Meng Tian pushed open her door with a grim expression. She couldn't understand who had been watching their house. Perhaps, they weren't watching the Meng family, but rather...
The lively atmosphere in the room paused for a moment when the two children suddenly returned, and then someone burst into hearty laughter.
"These must be Director Meng's two children? They're so good-looking."
A sticky, cold sensation suddenly shot up Meng Tian's back, like a venomous snake flicking its tongue at her from behind.
Meng Tian looked at the middle-aged man who had spoken, and, suppressing her discomfort, smiled and greeted him.
Meng's father coughed a few times, his face still somewhat pale.
