Chapter 8 My Eyes Are a Ruler
In an instant, Yin Xiaoyin noticed the curious or puzzled looks in everyone's eyes.
It seems like they're asking why the village chief is asking Yin Xiaoyin about this.
"Village chief, what do these newly arrived educated youth know about farming? We might as well let them figure it out..."
"That's right, she probably can't even tell the difference between wheat seedlings and shepherd's purse..."
"Even if they are educated youth from the north who have studied, how can what they learned from books be the same as what we actually do in the fields?"
Yin Wenying also said with a worried look, "Xiaoyin, don't pretend to know what you don't. It's easy to talk about things on paper, but what if something goes wrong? Who knows how many people will go hungry."
"Absolutely, it's all nonsense."
The deep lines on his face revealed a worried and distressed expression, full of doubt.
Yin Xiaoyin didn't get angry and argue back. She looked at the village chief. The decision-making power for this matter was in the village chief's hands. She was new to Hongye Village, and her words were not as convincing as the village chief's.
The village chief, his face dark, roared, "I went to the commune yesterday. The herbicide formula that the educated youth Yin Xiaoyin gave me is the same as the one the commune is going to distribute. You may not believe her, but don't you believe the commune?"
In those days, trust in the commune was ingrained in people's bones.
"Really? The leaders of the commune have all said it's okay?"
Someone asked.
The village chief snorted irritably, "When have I ever lied!"
Some people seemed to instantly force a smile: "This educated youth Yin is quite capable, it's good that he can study. But what's so interesting about the ratio? It's just a matter of mixing a tank of water with a certain amount of herbicide."
Yin Xiaoyin smiled and said, "I'll go take a look."
The village chief retorted to the villagers, scoffing, "Don't I know? What, do you think you're more capable than me?"
But in his heart he thought, this isn't the first time he's used this prescription. Isn't he a bit clueless?
Yin Zhiqing knew the recipe, and she asked her to check it so she wouldn't panic. After all, the land was their lifeline, and they couldn't afford to make any mistakes.
The village chief has given the order, so the villagers have scattered to do their own work in the fields, hoping to earn full work points today.
When Yin Xiaoyin arrived at the village chief's place, hot water, white vinegar, salt, and soapberry liquid were already prepared. These were all things that were not hard to find in the countryside, and their medicinal properties were relatively mild.
With a flick of her wrist, the girl moved with fluid grace, blending several liquids together in one smooth motion.
She slammed the last bucket down on the ground and said, "That's enough."
The village chief stared in disbelief: "Don't we need to calculate this ratio first?"
Yin Xiaoyin smiled and said, "You have to believe me, my eyes are my ruler."
The robot's precision and accuracy are innate; it doesn't make a single milliliter mistake.
Seeing the village chief's uneasy expression, she scratched her head and said, "If you're still worried, the buckets were always full. Now that I've poured some out, we can use the remaining liquid in the buckets to deduce the contents. The educated youth should be able to do that, right?"
"I think so?"
Yin Xiaoyin's tone was somewhat uncertain, because she knew that learning was like rowing against the current; if you didn't move forward, you would fall behind.
Most of the educated youth had been in the countryside for several years, and not everyone was good at math, so she wasn't really sure if anyone knew how to do this calculation.
Although it's very simple for her.
After thinking for a moment, the village chief still called out, "Let's get a few educated youths who are good at math."
Yin Xiaoyin waved to Ji Yueyan, beckoning her over. She liked this young lady, and even though she wasn't good at math, it would be good for her to watch over her for a while to reinforce her basics.
After all, if you master math, physics, and chemistry, you can go anywhere in the world without fear.
Yin Wenying and a few other educated youths came over. The village chief secretly did something clever and didn't tell them the specific proportions. He told them to calculate according to the method Yin Xiaoyin had suggested. That way, they would calculate both sides at the time, and as long as they matched, there wouldn't be any problems.
He is indeed wise.
Yin Wenying was quite good at math; she was one of the top students in school. She hadn't been in the countryside for long, and her knowledge was still solid. She quickly started doing calculations on the ground with a twig.
Many others clearly had ideas, but...
"Hey, what's the formula for the area of a circle again?"
"Should we multiply it by one-half...?"
"That's the calculation of volume and lateral surface area..."
What's the most accurate way to represent π?
Everyone looked dejected. How come the knowledge in their minds is becoming more and more blurry?
However, someone did calculate it correctly. The village chief squinted and checked the numbers one by one, then widened his eyes and gave Yin Xiaoyin a thumbs up: "Reliable, it's absolutely right!"
Yin Xiaoyin stood next to Ji Yueyan and, seeing her looking confused, lowered her voice to explain how everyone had calculated it, what mistakes they had made, and told her a few simple methods for calculating proportions.
Ji Yueyan was somewhat lost in thought. She had been in the countryside for three years. Her family was not well-off, and as the youngest child, she wore clothes that her older siblings had worn out. As for schooling, her textbooks were so worn that the words were illegible.
The teachers at the school no longer focus on teaching, and there are very few times when they teach seriously. They just rely on how much they can learn.
"Can you understand me?"
Yin Xiaoyin lowered her voice. She had already explained it in the simplest way possible, but Ji Yueyan seemed confused and didn't know what she was thinking.
Ji Yueyan snapped back to reality, a big smile spreading across her face. She linked arms with Yin Xiaoyin, her voice brimming with sincerity: "Thank you, Xiaoyin. Although I didn't understand much, I have a good memory. I've memorized it all. I'll think about it again after work tonight. Am I a little slow?"
Yin Xiaoyin actually wanted to nod.
However, if data analysis is done this way, it will dampen the girl's enthusiasm, and it would be even worse if it hurts her desire to learn.
"Perhaps I didn't explain it well."
Yin Xiaoyin obediently took the blame.
After listening for a while, the village chief waved them off impatiently and told them to go back to the fields. Then he called over a few strong villagers and told them to start spraying herbicide.
Yin Xiaoyin also specifically instructed: "We should see results tomorrow, village chief, don't worry."
village head:"……"
He's not in a hurry.
"We do all the hard work of weeding ourselves, and you're just spraying this stuff on us? You think the weeds will stop growing? I find that hard to believe."
Yin Xiaoyin couldn't help but smile: "Whether it works or not, we'll see tomorrow. Facts speak louder than words!"
Today was another day of rushing to collect grain, and Yin Xiaoyin, like an iron-willed model worker, continued to perfectly copy and paste yesterday's actions.
The human body is still fragile, and the muscle soreness she felt yesterday has not yet subsided. However, as long as she gradually adapts to this process, her body will gradually adapt to this intensity.
For a robot that used to be able to pry up steel structures with just a mechanical arm, it now feels like a powerless alien.
