Chapter 34 Feeding

Early in the morning, Lin Miaoyin got up, locked the door, carried her bedding roll and a net bag and went to the Lin family.

The Lin family also got up. Lin's mother and Cui Fen were already making pancakes and cooking millet porridge in the pot. They had a simple breakfast.

Mother Lin put a handful of Mao and grain coupons in Lin Miaoyin's hand and said, "The county town is not like home. Food is expensive. Take this money and buy some delicious food for Yuanzheng. The reward from the county revolutionary committee will come in a while, so don't save it."

Then he turned to Lin Miaojun who was packing pancakes and millet porridge and said, "Pack the iron lunch box at home as well. Bring two pairs of chopsticks and other things. I have washed them all."

"Hey! Don't worry." Lin Miaojun responded.

Lin Miaoyin felt upset. The Lin family was really good to her. They didn't feel awkward towards her even though she was married. Moreover, most families in that era favored boys over girls.

At around seven in the morning, the two of them set off carrying large and small bags.

First walk for about an hour to the commune, and then take the only bus to the county town in a day.

The bus was quite old and ran on diesel. The road had not yet been cemented and was full of potholes. She swayed from side to side all the way and almost vomited. Fortunately, the window could be opened and she managed to hold it in by enjoying the fresh air.

I took an hour's bus ride to the county town, got off at the station and walked to the hospital.

She lamented the backwardness of transportation more than once.

This was the first time she had come to a county town in her life. The county town of this era was similar to the town in her previous life. The houses were only a few stories high and there were no modern buildings. It was just a level higher than the commune.

It was already past eleven when we arrived. The state-owned restaurant was too expensive, so we had to go to a large collective restaurant nearby. We waited in line for a very long time before we could each have a bowl of noodles.

After dinner, I went to the hospital.

Secretary Li’s son also came to the hospital yesterday and went to the County Revolutionary Committee this morning to deal with yesterday’s landslide. The medical expenses were paid by the person sent by the County Revolutionary Committee.

When Lin Miaoyin and Lin Miaojun entered the ward, they saw Meng Yuanzheng leaning on the bed with his right foot hanging high. He was wearing a hospital gown and looked a little haggard, but he was talking to Jin Chengren with a peaceful expression.

Jin Chengren was sitting on a chair nearby, still wearing the same clothes he wore yesterday. He had just tidied them up a bit, and apart from being a little dirty, he looked presentable overall.

It's unknown what the two of them talked about, but they seemed to be getting along well, and Kim Sung-in had a smile on his face.

Lin Miaoyin inexplicably had a strange feeling. In the original work, wasn’t this a love rival? Wasn’t this a mortal enemy? Now she looks at the two of them, one is handsome and the other is pretty, full of gay love.

After knocking on the door, both of them looked up. Jin Chengren immediately stood up and grinned, "Brother Miaojun, you are here. Come and sit down."

He dragged the only two stools in the ward and placed them on the ground, then went forward to take the luggage.

"Comrade Chengren, thank you for taking care of Yuanzheng for us all night." Lin Miaoyin said.

"What are you thanking me for! If it wasn't for Brother Meng who saved me, I wouldn't be able to stand here and talk to you. It's my duty to take care of him." Jin Chengren said with a face full of shame.

Meng Yuanzheng looked at her quietly with gentle eyes.

She went to see his foot, which was in a cast. Jin Chengren explained at the right time, "The doctor said that as long as you take good care of it, there will be no root cause of the disease."

She breathed a sigh of relief, and Jin Chengren said, "Since you are here, sister-in-law, I will go back first. Jian'er told me to wait for me at the station."

Jianer is Secretary Li’s son.

Lin Miaojun looked at the wall clock and saw that it was already one o'clock. The only bus back to the commune left at three o'clock in the afternoon.

"You haven't eaten yet, right?" Lin Miaoyin asked.

You need food coupons to eat in the hospital, and they came in a hurry yesterday and they definitely didn’t bring any.

"I'll just go back and eat. It's too expensive outside." Jin Chengren said embarrassedly.

"We brought some food with us, you should eat some too." Lin Miaoyin said as she opened the thermos and kettle on the bedside table.

Lin Miaojun took out a cake wrapped in a clean handkerchief from his bag.

This thermos is a very primitive one. The inner liner is the same as that of a kettle, but the capacity is much larger. The outer shell is red plastic, which looks very festive. If the Lin family's living conditions were not decent, they would not have been willing to give up this thing.

There was a large bucket of chicken soup in the thermos, soft and glutinous millet porridge in the kettle, and a jar of pickles in a glass jar. It was obvious how carefully the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law of the Lin family prepared.

He used the cap of a kettle to pour a bowl of millet porridge, and then used the lid of the thermos as a bowl to pour another bowl, and then he took out two pairs of chopsticks and a spoon.

A smile flashed across Meng Yuanzheng's eyes, "You are well prepared."

Jin Chengren was stunned. He took the porridge that Lin Miaoyin brought over and said, "This is what you brought for Brother Meng. Is it bad for me to eat it?"

"It's okay. If you don't eat, the food will get bad in this weather. My brother and I have already eaten at a restaurant outside. You should eat quickly and then hurry to catch the bus."

On the other side, because his feet were hung up, Meng Yuanzheng couldn't sit up straight and could only lean back.

Seeing that it was inconvenient for him to eat by himself, Lin Miaoyin went to the corridor to wash her hands, then sat beside the bed and fed him porridge with a spoon.

"Come on, ah~" she teased deliberately.

Meng Yuanzheng stared at her with eyes as dark as ink, and obediently opened his mouth to hold the spoon.

Jin Chengren looked at the two of them with envy, wondering why he and his fiancée didn't have such a good relationship? By the way, his fiancée is my sister-in-law's cousin. She runs away every time she sees him, as if he looks scary.

Lin Miaojun was also very pleased. His sister and brother-in-law had such a good relationship, so he was naturally happy.

After eating a few mouthfuls of millet porridge, he picked up some chicken and fed him, then tore a piece of bread and put it in his mouth.

She couldn't do anything else, but she could take good care of him.

Meng Yuanzheng is very obedient and well-behaved. He eats whatever you feed him and eats quietly, which makes her feel very accomplished.

Jin Chengren only drank the porridge and ate a piece of bread, then went to wash the dishes. Seeing that Lin Miaoyin and Meng Yuanzheng were happily feeding each other, they quietly pulled Lin Miaojun. Lin Miaojun saw that it was almost two o'clock and could not stay any longer, so he sneaked away with Jin Chengren.

Lin Miaoyin had her back to the door and didn't see it, but Meng Yuanzheng saw it, but he didn't say a word and acted as if nothing had happened.

"How is it? It smells good, right? My mother cooked it last night and has been simmering on the stove ever since." Lin Miaoyin asked.

"It smells good. You should try it too." His eyes fell on the chicken soup.

Upon hearing this, Lin Miaoyin scooped a spoonful and tasted it herself. The soup stewed from the old country hen was fresh and delicious, and very fragrant.

It was so delicious that it made me cry.

But something seemed wrong. She glanced at Meng Yuanzheng and saw that he had his eyes lowered, as if he was trying to hold back a laugh.

I realized later that she was using the spoon he had used to drink.

This person must have deliberately tricked her.

"What are you laughing at?" She glared at him, but it was obviously not intimidating.

"It's okay." He glanced to the side.

"Isn't it just a spoon? In the war years, many people ate from the same food. There's a story that says a man on the battlefield had an apple, so he took it out and shared it with the soldiers, each taking a bite." She tried to cover up an article she had seen in her primary school textbook. Yanyan

Meng Yuanzheng's lips curled slightly, "You still remember."

The author has something to say: The male protagonist's legs have no aftereffects, no aftereffects!

I don't care, if I say no, then I don't (akimbo)
