Chapter 11 Apology

"You only know the bad, not the good. Do you even know the truth of the matter before you accuse me? Everything requires evidence. Where is the evidence I have to accuse her?"

"You have?"

The villager who was pointed at hurriedly waved his hand, saying, "I didn't see it."

"Or do you have it?"

The other person shook their head repeatedly.

The girl in front of us was thin and small, but no one expected her to have such an amazing presence. Her eyes were dark and bright.

He spoke with conviction, and held the baby for a long time without even breaking a sweat.

The strangest thing is Chen Ji's daughter. When she first came back to the village, if someone tried to hold her, she would cry as soon as they tried. She would cry incessantly no matter who held her except Chen Ji.

Nestled in Xu Ruantang's arms, it obediently rested on her shoulder, its big, dark eyes blinking curiously as it looked around.

So many people, yet not a single one uttered a sound.

Xu Ruantang glanced at the crowd surrounding them, then turned her gaze back to Yao Yulan.

She cleared her throat. "Yao Yulan, right? You were the one who pushed me first. I was standing perfectly fine at my own doorstep. What did you mean by pushing me? I was holding my child. If I got hurt, would you take responsibility?"

Yao Yulan became agitated and retorted, "You're making baseless accusations."

"Your gaping maw is bloody."

Xu Ruantang remained calm and composed, saying, "Who doesn't know four-character idioms?"

She switched the baby to her left arm and held it in her right arm, then raised her right arm to show everyone, saying, "Look at my arm. If I hadn't used my arm to support myself, the baby and I would have fallen into the ground long ago."

When everyone looked over, they discovered that Xu Ruantang's palm had a large abrasion, and blood was still seeping out.

Judging from the looks of it, the fall must have been quite severe.

For a moment, everyone lowered their heads, and no one dared to speak.

Those with a keen eye for detail have already begun to switch sides: "Oh, Yulan, did you really push her? How did she get hurt like this?"

"Yes, it looks painful."

The middle-aged man who was most agitated just now harbored a silent resentment towards Xu Ruantang because he had been humiliated by her.

"Who knows if she fell on her own and is framing Comrade Yao?"

Xu Ruantang snorted, "People who grew up in the Bagua Formation are different; they speak with such sarcasm."

This man is indiscriminate and bullies the weak while fearing the strong. Xu Ruantang hates this kind of person the most and didn't give him any face at all.

"You! Chen Ji, look at your wife! According to seniority, she should at least call me 'brother.' How can you talk to your elders like this!"

The man, enraged and embarrassed, spoke at the top of his lungs.

elder brother?

This guy is really crazy. Chen Ji calls him Uncle, and Xu Ruantang calls him Brother.

Dog! More like it.

Xu Ruantang felt a lightness in her hand and looked up to find that Chen Ji had taken Xiao Bao away.

Chen Ji's expression was icy, his face like ice that never melts on a snow-capped mountain, sending a chill down Xu Ruantang's spine.

Is he angry?

Xu Ruantang, living under someone else's roof, didn't want to offend this man who was like a refrigerator for the time being; the frozen male lead was not someone to mess with.

She decided to mute herself temporarily and see how things went.

"Apologize." Chen Ji's voice was cold and deep, his words as precious as gold.

For a moment, no one understood what he meant.

Yao Yulan understood; Chen Ji wanted Xu Ruantang to apologize to her and the middle-aged man!

Hmph, let's see how long she can keep up this act.

Yao Yulan said in a sweet, coquettish voice, "Brother Chen, I think my sister already knows she was wrong. Sister, I'll let it go. Please apologize to Uncle."

She looked troubled, but a hint of schadenfreude and triumph flashed in her eyes.

Xu Ruantang crossed her arms, still contemplating the consequences of accidentally sending everyone, including Chen Ji, flying if she couldn't resist.

She was probably sent back to her parents' home?

No, I can't go back to that house. If I do, it will definitely be sold again.

Go to the city to try your luck? It seems that in this day and age, without a household registration and a letter of introduction, you can't go anywhere.

Oh, I don't know!

This is actually quite tricky.

"I'm asking you to apologize to my wife, and to you as well." Chen Ji didn't show much emotion; his brows were stern and his expression was cold.

The middle-aged man was stunned. He never expected Chen Ji to be so unreasonable. It was impossible for him, an elder, to bow down and apologize to a junior!

Then, in a fit of impotent rage, he shouted, "Chen Ji, if I were you, I would never marry a wife like that! Look at you, bullying your own villagers for the sake of such a shrew, is that appropriate?"

"It's appropriate. Am I his wife or are you his wife? You're the outsider. Don't look for a wife yet, go look in the mirror first," Xu Ruantang retorted instinctively.

After she finished speaking, she secretly glanced at Chen Ji, thinking to herself that he was probably thinking about how to sentence her to death!

Such taciturn men are usually more cunning than the eye of a pinhole. Their silence doesn't mean they won't do things.

He's defending himself like this because there are outsiders around. If his nominal wife is being bullied, it's because he, as a man, is incompetent.

no.

I need to explain this to him later.

Thinking this, Xu Ruantang took two steps closer to Chen Ji, a fawning smile on her face.

What a joke! The big shot is protecting her; we have to give him enough face.

“Brother Chen,” Yao Yulan said, still trying to get attention, “it’s not like that.”

“Yulan, let’s go home. I saw you push Xiao Xu.”

Pushing through the crowd, Aunt Wang walked in carrying two bowls. "It's not that I'm criticizing you, but you should know what's important. The child is still so young. If you push him into a dangerous situation, it will be too late to regret it."

Aunt Wang was picking vegetables in front of her house when she happened to see that scene.

Later, Xu Ruantang left Yao Yulan against the wall. Aunt Wang knew that she was not someone to be bullied, so she went back to cook with peace of mind.

Who would have thought that even now, after this farce has unfolded for so long, Yao Yulan would still be so adept at distorting the truth.

Aunt Wang felt that since Chen Ji was still taking her money, she should at least say something fair, otherwise she wouldn't be able to live with herself.

"What are you all still standing here for? Go home and cook dinner."

As soon as Aunt Wang spoke, everyone readily agreed and went home as quickly as possible.

After all, she hadn't figured things out properly and had said a lot of unpleasant things to Chen Ji's wife, so she felt guilty.

It wouldn't be good if Chen Ji realized what was happening and started to hold them accountable one by one.

Yao Yulan's face turned pale and then red. She never expected that Aunt Wang, an old woman who was poor and a widow, would dare to target her like this!

She glared at Aunt Wang fiercely, didn't apologize, turned around and ran away, crying as she ran.

"Dinner is ready, Xiao Chen and Xiao Xu, come in and eat."

As Aunt Wang spoke, she had already entered the courtyard.

Now only Chen Ji and Xu Tang were left in front of the door. Xu Ruantang flashed a standard eight-tooth fake smile and reached out to Chen Ji: "Let me carry you."

He still has a leg injury, and he's been standing for so long. This guy is really tough.

Xu Ruantang hadn't even touched Xiaobao when Chen Ji dodged her.

"No need, let's go home."

Chen Ji carried Xiao Bao into the yard. He walked very slowly, and you could tell he was limping.

Xu Ruantang's hand hovered in mid-air for half a second before she withdrew it and awkwardly scratched her head.

"Come in with me."

The man's voice rang out again, deep and resonant.
