When the two arrived home, Chen Lin's bodyguard brought them food. After eating, the godmother leaned back on the sofa to rest, while Xiao Bao rode on the bodyguard's shoulders, giggling.
The young man in his twenties blushed when he saw Chen Ji and Xu Ruantang.
He hurriedly took Xiaobao off his shoulders, "Commander Chen, you're back, then I'll head back."
"Okay, thank you." Chen Ji took Xiao Bao.
The young man waved his hand, "No need to thank me, it's all what I should do. Goodbye, Xiao Bao."
Xiao Bao is so cute. Seeing his dimples deepen when he smiles and makes faces at him, he couldn't resist playing with the child.
Xiao Bao nestled in Chen Ji's arms, and when she saw others waving, she waved back.
As soon as the young man left, the godmother pointed to the food on the table and said, "Eat quickly. Give the child to me. That young man is a good person. He brought back so much food. He said that you two probably didn't eat any."
"Godmother, you rest, I'll hold Xiaobao and eat."
Since the godmother had injured her back and couldn't hold the baby, and the little one was at a very active age, Chen Ji simply held her while she ate.
As they ate, Xiao Bao's mouth watered, and he even tried to reach for the food.
Xu Ruantang thought for a moment and said to her godmother, "Godmother, you go to sleep. I'll sleep with Xiaobao tonight."
The godmother didn't stand on ceremony and pointed to the red fabric next to the sofa, saying, "Okay, Xiao Chen just changed to a bed upstairs today, it's huge! The three of you won't feel cramped!"
"And these fabrics, Xiao Chen bought them specially to make your wedding dress." The godmother picked up the fabrics and showed them to Xu Ruantang. "Look how good this material is, I've never seen anything like it before."
Xu Ruantang looked at the fabric, then turned to look at Chen Ji, who was concentrating on both eating and taking care of the child.
The man looked focused and didn't seem to care at all, as if he had casually brought back a bag of salt.
“My godmother hurt her back. I’ll tell Aunt Liu what kind she wants and have her make it for you,” Chen Ji said in a nonchalant tone.
Xu Ruantang was momentarily dazed.
She had completely forgotten about the fabric. Chen Jike really had no procrastination issues whatsoever; his execution was terrifyingly strong.
The bed in the upstairs room had indeed been changed. I don't know where Chen Ji had it made, but I guess it was a large bed about 1.8 meters wide, with a new cotton mattress on top of the solid wood planks.
The bed sheets were neatly laid out. Xu Ruantang thought of the bed sheets drying outside the yard and thought to herself, "This person is really diligent."
She's also quite good at housework!
She was still a little unaccustomed to living in a bed with two other people again.
Little Bao was excited, babbling and refusing to sleep late into the night, crawling around everywhere.
Just as Xu Ruantang was about to pick her up and lull her to sleep, Chen Ji came upstairs after taking a shower. "Let me do it."
He picked up the baby in his arms, while Xu Ruantang went to turn off the lights.
In the darkness, Chen Ji gently placed his large hand on Xiao Bao's back, and after a while, Xiao Bao's excited shouts gradually subsided.
Once the child was asleep, Chen Ji placed her between the two of them.
Despite its small size, the child actually takes up quite a bit of space, at least that's what Chen Ji thinks.
Xu Ruantang thought the father and daughter were really nice; at least Chen Ji wasn't as helpless as he had been at the beginning, nor was he as distant.
He will be a good father.
Suddenly being switched to a different bed, Xu Ruantang couldn't fall asleep. She turned over and looked at the little baby sleeping beside her. The tiny child was breathing evenly and sleeping very soundly.
It's round and chubby, and quite magical. Its two little hands are in a surrender gesture, held up on either side of its head, just like a lucky cat.
"Chen Ji, why do you think Wang Xiuxiu is deliberately targeting me? How can someone who's isolated in the hospital be so aware of rumors?"
Knowing that Chen Ji was also awake, Xu Ruantang spoke softly.
Chen Ji, who was lying flat, turned towards her upon hearing this, with Xiao Bao between them.
His voice was gentle and warm: "You suspect that someone is instigating her behind the scenes? The person instigating her could be a rumor-monger?"
Xu Ruantang nodded frantically. Chen Ji was indeed highly intelligent; he could guess what she wanted to say in an instant.
Then, realizing that Chen Ji couldn't see, she spoke up: "Yes, yes, and I suspect that this person is your second aunt."
Chen Ji asked, "Did she say anything to you?"
"Back then at your house, as soon as I stepped out of the study, I found her standing outside the door eavesdropping. She didn't say anything useful, but she admitted that she was the one who spread the rumors."
Xu Ruantang felt a little irritated whenever she thought of Jia Shuling.
Such people are like rats, both gloomy and sneaky. They're also like flies, they don't bite but they annoy people.
Spreading rumors is just talk; without concrete evidence, it can't be taken to higher authorities.
At the time, she said she wouldn't let Jia Shuling go, but that was just to scare her; she couldn't actually kill her, because murder is against the law.
Xu Ruantang patted Xiaobao's chubby little hand, trying to clear her mind of these worries, "Never mind, let's go to sleep."
She kissed Xiao Bao's chubby face, then lay down to sleep.
Completely unaware, Chen Jiyou's deep gaze was fixed on her in the darkness.
Xu Ruantang was unaware that Chen Ji went to see Jia Shuling the next day and gave her a stern and harsh reprimand.
Yesterday, Jia Shuling was warned by Xu Ruantang by being choked, and today she was treated like this by her nominal nephew, standing at the entrance of the art troupe with so many people watching. She was so embarrassed that she cried.
Chen Ji walked away with a blank expression.
Jia Shuling sat under the tree crying. She was hardly the kind of woman who should be an aunt. Anyone who didn't know better would think she was a grandson of the Chen family! Any Tom, Dick, or Harry could bully her!
Soon, new gossip began circulating within the cultural troupe. It was unclear who spread the rumor, but it was said that the story of Commander Chen's wife seducing men was false, or that Jia Shuling had spread it.
