Chapter 172 Commander! Medicine! Medicine!

Xu Ruantang didn't get a reply from Chen Ji before her eyelids drooped and she fell asleep.

She got up even earlier than Chen Jiqi the next day.

Looking out the window at the still dimly lit sky, Chen Ji pulled Xu Ruantang, who was struggling to sit up, into his arms.

"You can sleep a little longer, I'm getting up."

Xu Ruantang's voice was soft and gentle. Even though she was so sleepy that she could barely open her eyes, she was about to get up.

Chen Ji put his arm around her waist and asked, "Where are you going so early?"

Xu Ruantang snuggled against him and said, "I'll go see if they sell old hens. I'll buy some to make soup and take them to the hospital at noon."

Chen Ji's hand tightened.

"I broke my back."

Xu Ruantang hissed, without even opening her eyes, as she followed Chen Ji's hand.

I originally intended to take a picture, but when I touched the scar on the back of my hand, I subconsciously rubbed it a couple of times.

Chen Ji didn't say anything in the end, and even went with her to the army base after they finished shopping.

Xu Ruantang had never made chicken soup before, and since her godmother wasn't home, she went next door to ask Aunt Liu for advice.

Aunt Liu explained it to her in great detail.

The chicken was stewing in the pot, and since she had nothing else to do, she took the opportunity to sit in front of the easel and sketch a draft.

It was a thought that suddenly popped into my head when I was alone with Chen Ji.

She wanted to design a handmade ring herself.

Once the chicken soup was ready, Xu Ruantang put the tender old hen into a thermos.

She had just taken it out when she saw a young soldier running towards her, panting, calling out, "Sister-in-law, sister-in-law!"

Xu Ruantang paused as she was about to close the door. Wasn't this the young man who had been holding Hu Zi's hand when they first arrived at the compound?

"What's wrong? Don't rush, tell me slowly."

The young soldier was frantic and incoherent: "Sister-in-law, please go see the regimental commander! The medicine, he said the medicine is at home! Peaches, I ate peaches! I have red rashes all over my body..."

Xu Ruantang understood immediately, "He accidentally ate something with peaches in it and had an allergic reaction?"

The young soldier nodded vigorously.

Xu Ruantang shoved the chicken soup in her hand into the young soldier's arms, rushed into the house and started looking for medicine; she remembered what allergy medication looked like.

Not feeling at ease after finding him, he followed the young soldier to the office.

The regimental headquarters office was empty. The young soldier scratched his head. "The regimental commander was still inside when I left..."

The sound of synchronized footsteps and loud slogans could be heard outside.

Xu Ruantang followed the young soldier outside and saw... good heavens...

Next to the regimental headquarters office was the training ground, filled with muscular men in matching green military trousers and shirtless...

Xu Ruantang glanced around, then turned to see Chen Ji standing by the training field with a cold and stern expression.

The young soldier ran over, shouting, "Commander! Medicine! Medicine!"

"Give it to me." Chen Ji frowned slightly, somewhat displeased.

The young soldier immediately stood at attention. "Reporting, Commander, she's in your wife's hands!"

His shout was so loud that all the soldiers who were focused on training turned to look in his direction.

Xu Ruantang walked over and said, "I brought the medicine. I'm sorry, I thought your condition was as serious as last time, so I rushed over in a hurry."

She felt she shouldn't have come to a place like this, and turned to leave.

"Cough cough..."

A violent coughing sound came from behind, followed by the young soldier's voice: "Commander, Commander, what's wrong? Why can't you stand up?"

"Come on, let me help you to the office. Take your medicine first."

When Xu Ruantang turned around, she saw the red rash on his neck and immediately became anxious. She helped Chen Ji walk towards the office.

The young soldier's grip loosened, and if he hadn't been standing firm, he would have stumbled back a few steps.

He stood there, looking completely bewildered.

He muttered under his breath, "Why did the commander push me..."

As soon as the word "Dismissed" rang out, the already distracted group on the training ground immediately surrounded the young soldier.

"Liu Hong, what's the regimental commander doing?"

The young soldier named Liu Hong scratched his head. "How should I know? They told me to go to his house to get some allergy medication from his wife..."

"The commander has gone mad. He could kill a tiger with one punch, but just now he was coughing like a little bird and couldn't even stand up straight."

Someone ran over for a peek and saw the regimental headquarters office door wide open. They quickly ran back and exclaimed, "Still laughing! I just saw it with my own eyes, the regimental commander was laughing and talking to his wife!"

The crowd looked at each other and exclaimed in unison, "Tch~" "You must be exhausted!"

"Seriously, if you don't believe me, go see for yourselves! I've never seen the commander's lips curl up that high before!"

Liu Hong asked with a worried look, "Is the allergy the regimental commander mentioned very serious?"

"It's alright. I also get little red rashes all over my body every year when the flowers bloom, just like the one the leader has. It's just itchy."

"Didn't you see how energetic the regimental commander was before his wife arrived? But as soon as she came, he couldn't even stand up straight? That's too much of a coincidence! Do you know what that means?"

Liu Hong thought for a moment, then his eyes lit up: "That means the regimental commander was just putting on a brave face!"

Before he could finish speaking, he received a slap on the head. "Idiot, that means the commander is faking it! Look at you, you don't even understand this. The commander isn't crazy, nor is he seriously ill; he's just held back by love!"

The speaker had a mysterious look on his face. "Never mind, you little brats wouldn't understand anyway."

Xu Hanli squatted in the corner of the flower bed not far away, coughed lightly, and when the crowd saw him, they immediately scattered.

Before leaving, some people whispered to each other, "See? That old bachelor, the instructor, doesn't know anything. So we should learn from him, otherwise we'll end up like him and never be able to find a wife."

Xu Hanli suddenly stood up. "You little brat, I'm not deaf!"

When he shouted, those people ran even faster.
