Chapter 179 I Don't Have a Fetish for Wearing Green Hats

Xu Ruantang raised an eyebrow. "Comrade Lu, forgot your money? Did you leave your wallet at home? Or did you lose it?"

She knew this trick well; men always had a million reasons not to spend money.

Lu Lei's face suddenly turned a mix of colors, and he sobered up considerably.

He didn't know anyone there. If he didn't pay today, he would be no different from a lazy bum bragging on the street.

He looked at Chen Ji for help, "Commander Chen, it's really bad timing today. How about this, I'll deliver the money to your house later, is that alright?"

Lu Lei felt that Xu Ruantang and Li Shuhe were not the type to reason with each other, and Li Shuyang put on a distant and unapproachable demeanor. Only Chen Ji seemed mature and composed.

"Um."

Chen Ji responded and glanced towards the door.

Lu Lei then remembered Cheng Dan and hurriedly chased after her.

Xu Ruantang was seething with anger. She stood up from the long bench, stepped on Chen Ji's foot, and then went around to sit down on the other side next to Li Shuhe.

"Ruan Ruan, eat some fish, this piece has no bones." Li Shuhe picked up a piece of fish and put it into Xu Ruantang's bowl.

The three continued chatting as if no one else was around, and every now and then they would burst into laughter at something funny.

Chen Ji sat to the side, barely noticeable, and silently finished the remaining half bottle of baijiu.

Li Shuhe leaned close to Xu Ruantang and whispered, "Who offended Chen Ji? Why does he look so strange?"

Xu Ruantang glanced at Chen Ji sitting opposite her and whispered, "He's probably heartbroken."

Suddenly, a rumbling sound rang out.

Xu Ruantang looked outside the shop and saw that the rain was pouring down suddenly, accompanied by lightning and thunder.

"So sudden?" Li Shuhe stood up. "This rain is so strange. It just started falling suddenly, with thunder and lightning."

A gust of wind, mixed with raindrops, blew into the shop. Li Shuhe touched her chilly arms and sat back down on the stool.

"Eat slowly, we won't be able to leave anytime soon."

Xu Ruantang picked up a peanut soaked in vinegar and ate it with relish.

He turned to Li Shuhe and asked, "Do you know why it suddenly thundered?"

"Why?"

Xu Ruantang said quietly, "Because a scumbag swore an oath."

Even after spending so much time with Xu Ruantang, Li Shuhe still didn't understand, "Scumbag? Making a vow?"

"When people make vows of eternal love, they usually say, 'I will love you forever, or else I'll be struck by lightning.' But this doesn't come true."

After Xu Ruantang finished speaking, her gaze swept over Chen Ji, who was holding a wine glass and had a cold expression.

Li Shuhe laughed out loud. She always heard such novel remarks from Xu Ruantang.

Li Shuyang laughed along, "Then what kind of 'scumbag' is he?"

"He's a piece of trash, so broken into pieces you can't even pick him up."

Xu Ruantang didn't actually know the exact term for "scumbag," as it was difficult to explain, but the meaning was roughly the same.

The wind and rain whipped up leaves, sending them flying through the air. The few customers in the shop were all waiting for the rain to stop, and the owner stood at the door sighing.

Fortunately, the rain came and went quickly.

The group parted ways at the gate of the compound, with Chen Ji pushing his motorcycle and Xu Ruantang walking beside him.

One second she was smiling and saying goodbye to the two siblings from the Li family, but the next second her smile vanished and she walked forward in silence.

Chen Ji could still push his motorcycle after drinking so much liquor, which shows he has a good alcohol tolerance.

Sure enough, he was faking it last time when he mixed cola with alcohol.

A man who's three-tenths drunk can make you cry!

"Xu Ruantang, stop right there."

She walked faster and faster, and Chen Ji had to speak up, but it was no use. It was as if the person had wheels of fire under her feet; the more he tried to stop her, the more she wanted to walk.

Not only did he leave, but he also retorted, "You think I'll stop just because you tell me to? I won't, I won't stop."

Upon entering the courtyard, Xu Ruantang didn't stop and headed straight for the main room.

Chen Ji caught up in a few steps, his tall figure blocking most of the dim light.

He frowned in displeasure and leaned slightly closer. "Don't you have anything to say to me?"

He was better off not speaking, because once he spoke, Xu Ruantang became even angrier. She looked up at him and said, "Should I speak first? Fine, then I'll speak. Chen Ji, what's the meaning of this today? Are you deliberately trying to make me unhappy?"

She was too close to Chen Ji, so she had to tilt her head back to speak, which was quite tiring.

Xu Ruantang took a step back, feeling a bit more comfortable in her neck, and continued, "I'm not the one who offended you. Every wrong has its perpetrator, and every debt its debtor. If you can't let go of Dr. Cheng, go find her. What are you trying to prove here?"

It's just dating, why is it so frustrating?

Could it be that Chen Ji is unhappy because of Cheng Dan, and she's supposed to pretend to be magnanimous and comfort him? Forget it...

A look of confusion crossed Chen Ji's eyes, and his voice was slightly hoarse, perhaps from drinking: "What do you mean I can't let go of Dr. Cheng? What are you talking about?"

Xu Ruantang resisted the urge to roll her eyes. "If you can't let her go, why did you insist on having dinner with them today when you saw her with Lu Lei, and even had to drink with Lu Lei? What else could it be but jealousy of Lu Lei?"

The more Xu Ruantang spoke, the more shocked Chen Ji became.

Sometimes he really wanted to crack open his wife's head to see what was inside, what kind of thought process she had to come up with such convoluted ideas.

Chen Ji took a step forward, his expression extremely complicated: "Wife, so at the dinner table, you were giving me the cold shoulder because you were jealous?"

"What nonsense are you talking about?" Xu Ruantang's eyelids twitched. "My husband is jealous of other women, of course I'm disgusted and thinking about how to get rid of this disgusting thing. How could it be jealousy? You have a problem with your comprehension."

Xu Ruantang doesn't usually argue with people, but when she does, it's all subtle but deadly.

Chen Ji was filled with mixed feelings, but he still asked, "Is there anything else you want to tell me?"

"Shut up, shut up, I'm speechless."

Xu Ruantang was driving Chen Ji crazy. She had said so much, but he just laughed instead.

Chen Ji approached her step by step, his handsome eyes filled with a frosty coldness.

Xu Ruantang's heart skipped a beat. Could it be that Chen Ji was angry and wanted to fight her?

With her rudimentary skills, she couldn't possibly beat him.

"What...what are you doing? I didn't say anything wrong. If you really want to see Dr. Cheng, I won't stop you, but we have to get a divorce first. I don't have a penchant for being cuckolded, and I will absolutely not back down. I can't let you bring home all sorts of wildflowers!"

As Xu Ruantang spoke, she observed the escape route while also wondering how loud she should be to wake up the neighbors.

Chen Ji barely suppressed his anger and coldly questioned her: "Divorce? Cuckolding? Playing the field? Hitting someone? You disgusting thing? Can't let go of other women?"

Chen Ji's thin lips were pressed tightly together, his aura was powerful, and his eyes were filled with thick mockery. "Xu Ruantang, you're really something! So that's how you see me?"
