Chapter 19 Chen Jizai has a fever

Can such a young child eat noodles?

She's so young, how can she know so much?

Chen Ji thought for a moment, then said calmly, "Is this for Xiao Bao?"

"Hmm, let it cool down a bit, it's too hot right now."

Xu Ruantang lay sprawled on the kang (a heated brick bed) without any regard for her image, her face turned towards Xiaobao, winking and making faces.

"How do you know so much? You don't seem to have any children." Chen Ji lifted his eyelids to look over, his voice deep.

As soon as Xu Ruantang heard this, she knew what he was thinking.

As a female college student who had been exposed to modern ideas, it was naturally impossible for her to behave exactly like the original owner of the body.

Xu Ruantang propped herself up on one arm, her shimmering dark eyes staring directly at Chen Ji, and said with a slight upturn of her lips, "And what about you? How come you have a child and don't understand anything?"

Her smile was bright, and she seemed completely open and honest. "Didn't you read the letter the matchmaker gave you? I have two older cousins, one of whom married into this village and had two children."

Chen Ji vaguely remembered it, but he didn't know it from the letter of introduction; Yao Guoqiang had mentioned it.

He barely listened at all.

Xu Ruantang didn't want to know why Chen Ji, as a father, didn't understand anything; she just wanted to give him a piece of her mind.

On the one hand, she didn't care; on the other hand, most fathers were not as good as mothers, especially in this day and age.

She walked to the table, picked up the crumbs to test the temperature, and began to feed the baby.

There wasn't much made to begin with, but Xiao Bao was very considerate and ate it all.

"Chen Ji, I'm planning to go to the market with Aunt Wang tomorrow. I should be back around noon. Can you take care of Xiao Bao for the morning?"

Xu Ruantang felt that talking to Chen Ji now was just like talking to her future boss, and she had to be very careful when asking for leave.

"good."

Chen Ji remained as taciturn as ever, not even asking her what she was going to do.

The rain was still falling. Xu Ruantang had originally planned to get up early tomorrow to rush out some bread to test the waters.

As it turned out, the sky cleared up by evening.

As the saying goes, "Red sky at morning, sailors take warning; red sky at night, sailors' delight," Xu Ruantang knew there would be something interesting at the market tomorrow, so she went straight into the kitchen and wouldn't come out.

For her first sale, she only made about fifty.

Fortunately, it was a large iron pot, which could hold a lot at once. She was already very skilled at the cooking process, and the fragrant, crispy honey and egg bread rolls were quickly ready.

When Aunt Wang brought dinner, the two agreed on a time to leave.

Xu Ruantang ate dinner absentmindedly, constantly thinking about pricing, and eventually gave up.

Aunt Wang will go with her. When the time comes, ask Aunt Wang for a rough price first, and then she will know how to sell it.

After all, the market is frequented by people from the surrounding villages, so if the prices are too high, no one will buy.

She looked up and realized that Chen Ji had also eaten very little that evening.

"No appetite?" Xu Ruantang is the type to ask questions directly and dislikes beating around the bush.

Chen Ji showed no unusual expression; after all, what could possibly change on a face that never showed any emotion?

"It's okay, you eat."

Chen Ji noticed that she hadn't touched her food much, and his deep eyes darkened, his brows furrowing slightly without him noticing.

Xu Ruantang was woken up early the next morning by a knock on the door.

Aunt Wang's loud voice could be heard for two miles.

"They're here." Xu Ruantang, still sleepy, got up and walked around one or two people on the kang (a heated brick bed) before struggling to get out of bed.

As soon as I opened the door, I saw Aunt Wang standing outside with a smile, holding breakfast. "What's wrong? Little Chen didn't get up today either?"

Xu Ruantang then realized that Chen Ji seemed to have been sleeping just now.

Having been here for several days, it's rare to see someone like this. She smiled and said, "Yes, I'm not up yet. Auntie, give it to me."

Aunt Wang handed her the things, smiled strangely, and patted Xu Ruantang's shoulder, saying, "Xiao Chen is still injured, don't torment him too much, we'll leave in a bit?"

"Okay, I'll wash up and have breakfast, then we'll go. Auntie, I'll come find you in a bit."

After seeing Aunt Wang off, Xu Ruantang belatedly realized that something seemed to have just rolled over her face.

Not everyone is saying that Chen Ji is completely incompetent, so why is he driving again now?

Xu Ruantang shook her head, deciding not to get dyed so early in the morning.

I went back inside, grabbed my toiletries, quickly washed up, and started eating porridge.

Chen Ji still hadn't gotten up. Before leaving, Xu Ruantang was thinking of changing Xiao Bao's diaper, and when she passed by Chen Ji, she noticed that his complexion was not quite right.

Chen Ji seemed to be trembling; despite the April weather, a fine layer of sweat appeared on his forehead.

Even his high, straight nose was damp with sweat.

Xu Ruantang quickly called out to him, "Chen Ji?"

The person on the kang (heated brick bed) had his eyes closed and didn't respond at all. Xu Ruantang grew anxious and reached out to check his breathing.

It's alive, but its breath is scalding hot!

She quickly touched his forehead and confirmed that Chen Ji had a fever, and was already somewhat delirious from the fever.

Xu Ruantang got a little anxious, picked up Xiaobao and ran to Aunt Wang's house.

Upon hearing this, Aunt Wang immediately put down her work and came over, looking anxious. "Oh dear, what should we do? The village's barefoot doctor who practices medicine went out a few days ago!"

"Auntie, are there any other clinics or hospitals?" Xu Ruantang asked.

Chen Ji is in such a condition that trying to cool him down at home is definitely not an option; he's completely unresponsive!

Aunt Wang shook her head, "Where else in our small town besides the provincial capital would we find something like that?"

Just then, a charming voice came from outside: "Brother Chen, Brother Chen, are you home?"

Aunt Wang slapped her thigh and exclaimed, "Oh my, Secretary Yao has a car!"

He is Yao Guoqiang's son-in-law and often drives to the Yao family home.

Xu Ruantang didn't care about anything else. When she went out and saw Yao Yulan, she asked, "Do you have a car? Can you take Chen Ji to the hospital?"

This is exactly what Yao Yulan was waiting for.

She waited at home all day yesterday, but no one came to her door, so she thought Chen Ji hadn't drunk the chicken soup.

It seems he did drink it, but why is he only saying it now?

Yao Yulan frowned. "Why are you only saying this now? If anything happens to Brother Chen, can you take responsibility?"

Xu Ruantang was taken aback, but quickly realized what was happening.

Yao Yulan probably thought Chen Ji was having an allergic reaction, which is why she spoke so late.

"Then hurry home and have someone come pick you up!" Xu Ruantang was too lazy to argue with her; saving lives was the priority.

Upon hearing this, Yao Yulan's expression changed slightly.

At this moment, she suddenly became coy, "We have a car at home, do you know what a car is? You've probably never ridden in one before, you wouldn't happen to want to come along, would you?"

Yao Yulan crossed her arms and looked Xu Ruantang up and down with disdain.

"No, there's no room for so many people on the bus. I'll go with Brother Chen."

"Okay, I won't go. You go home and drive!"

Xu Ruantang was really annoyed by her indecisive personality. What time is it? She's still thinking about all sorts of nonsense.

If you're late, you can go and cry to your brother Chen.

Xu Ruantang suppressed the urge to hit someone and pushed Yao Yulan out the door, saying, "Come on, I'll go with you to get the car!"
