As soon as she finished speaking, the man named Hu Zi behind the woman walked out.
After he left, the burly man named Leopard closed the courtyard gate and stared fiercely at the people in the yard.
Xu's mother was still sitting on the ground, unable to get up. She sat down and began to cry and shout, "Oh my god, this is outrageous! This is my daughter's house! You're blatantly robbing us! We're living here peacefully, where are we supposed to go...?"
She was still planning to use the same tactics she used on the villagers, but no matter how much she cried and shouted, the men who came didn't even glance at her.
The leopard, clenching its fist the size of a sandbag, was about to step forward when it was stopped by a woman sitting on a stool with a leisurely expression. "Don't worry about it, let her cry. She'll have her cry when she's squatting in the fence."
Mr. Xu originally intended to let his wife make a scene first and then see how things went.
Who knew these people would be so calm?
He started to feel uneasy. If the house was really sold and they refused to leave, even if the police came, they wouldn't side with them.
The sound of a child crying came from inside the house, each cry more urgent than the last.
Seeing that no one paid attention to her wailing, Xu's mother simply stood up, dusted herself off, pushed open the door, and went inside to scold her daughter-in-law.
She seemed completely unconcerned about ending up on the streets.
Xu Sheng moved closer to his father and said in a low voice, "Dad, why don't we stay at the guesthouse again? After we settle in, I'll go find my sister this afternoon. Maybe she can arrange for us to stay in their courtyard."
Xu's father thought that it was no use for him to stubbornly resist here. If the police came soon, he might really have to go in.
If we go in, everything will be over.
"Okay, pack your things, let's go!"
Xu's father squatted under the eaves, holding a pipe in his hand, watching Xu Sheng and Xu's mother go in and out.
When he saw that Xu's mother was carrying a lot of things in large and small bags, his face darkened and he scolded, "Why are you carrying all this stuff?!"
"The house was sold, but the belongings weren't. What's wrong with me taking them? What belongs to my daughter is ours. Should we let these people benefit if we don't take them?"
Xu's mother looked completely justified, as if she wanted to scrape off the entire ground along with it.
Wang Xiuxiu sat in the middle of the courtyard and couldn't help but twitch her lips when she saw this situation.
She was itching to try it herself; what a weird family!
Remembering Xu Ruantang's instructions, Wang Xiuxiu remained seated, watching as Xu's mother stuffed things into the bundle made of bedsheets.
Wang Xiuxiu frowned. "Hey, the Chen family said they asked me to leave the things for them and come back to move them in a couple of days. You've taken them all. How am I supposed to explain this to them?"
Xu's mother glared at her, "It's none of your business. We'll take them all with us now. When that ingrate asks, just say you took her own mother!"
“I don’t even want this junk!” Xu’s mother muttered as she squeezed the bowl into the bundle. “What’s the point of being rich and powerful? I think it’s all bullshit! This stuff you’ve bought is so bad, it wouldn’t even be worth much if you sold it as scrap.”
When Xu's mother thought of the money Xu's father had given Xu Ruantang, her heart ached.
She said that this daughter was unreliable, and that the two men in the family were blind!
Before Hu Zi, who had gone to report the crime, returned, the Xu family, carrying large bags and small packages, slunk away with their child.
The young woman was holding her child and carrying a large basket on her back; her thin frame was hunched over.
Even in this state, Xu's mother was still cursing and swearing: "You ate so much food, where did it all go? You're all show and no substance! Your family asked for so much money, and you can't even get a penny back. You're good for nothing!"
Xu's mother was carrying a huge bundle, and Xu Sheng and Xu's father were not idle either. They were a sight to behold as they walked down the street.
It would be a shame if this family didn't become acrobats.
Wang Xiuxiu stood at the entrance of the tailor shop, listening to the sound gradually fade away, and was also shocked.
As expected, there are always strange things happening every year, but this year there seem to be more than usual.
Tiger and Qiu Liang came out of the shop next door, carrying several glasses of chilled plum juice.
Qiu Liang handed Wang Xiuxiu a cup, which she accepted with a smile, saying, "Thank you so much for today."
Tiger and Leopard took a big gulp of plum juice and said with a simple smile, "No need. Qiu Liang and we've been friends since we were kids. His friends' business is our business."
A leopard that looks big is actually just scary in appearance.
He worked at a flour mill, and it was through carrying flour sacks every day that he became increasingly strong and muscular.
As for his appearance, he was born with a serious, dark face, and he could be quite frightening if he didn't smile.
"Alright, then I won't stand on ceremony." Wang Xiuxiu took out some money from her pocket. "This is from Ruan Tang, she asked me to give it to you all so she can treat you to a meal. She'll thank you in person when she has time later."
The group politely declined, but Wang Xiuxiu refused to give in.
In the end, Qiu Liang accepted the money, saying he would treat them to a meal on Xu Ruantang's behalf. The two of them scratched their heads and smiled sheepishly before agreeing.
Sister Juan asked Xiuxiu, "I see they have so many bags and packages, they've practically emptied the whole yard, haven't they?"
Wang Xiuxiu nodded, "Who says otherwise? They were practically ready to pry up the bricks on the ground and take them with them."
While Wang Xiuxiu was still lamenting, Sister Juan looked distressed and said, "That yard was painstakingly tidied up by Ruan Tang, and now it's all been taken away."
"It's alright. Ruan Tang said that she doesn't plan to take what they've used anyway, and she'll have them return it soon."
Sister Juan sighed, "Everyone says that no parent doesn't love their child, but I don't think that's entirely true."
Ruan Tang's parents not only don't love their child, but they also seem to want to skin her alive.
There is no true love, only calculation.
These aren't family members; they're clearly treacherous ghosts.
The Xu family arrived at the guesthouse as if they were moving house, and all of them were exhausted.
But the guesthouse refused to let them stay because they had too much stuff, saying that the room couldn't hold it all and that it wasn't allowed by regulations.
Xu's mother threw a tantrum at the guesthouse and almost got arrested by the police again.
Xu Sheng at least knew how shameful he was, and he and his father turned and left, with his mother hurriedly following behind.
Fortunately, there were alleys near the guesthouse, and after asking around, they found a private house to stay in temporarily.
After settling in, Xu Sheng didn't even have lunch before going to the entrance of the military compound to wait for Xu Ruantang.
Before leaving, Xu's parents repeatedly told them that now that they had met Xu Ruantang, they must not let her leave again.
We must make her bring them into the compound. If she refuses, we'll have Xu Sheng cause a scene at the compound gate!
It would be best to make a big fuss so that everyone knows, and her in-laws can't just stand by and do nothing.
Why is it that the Chen family lives a life of luxury while the Xu family, who are related by marriage, don't even have a place to live?!
Are there really such in-laws?!
Xu Sheng was initially reluctant, thinking it was quite embarrassing.
Xu's mother retorted, "It's better to be embarrassed than to have my grandson's illness go untreated! Do you care about saving face or your son?"
Xu Sheng immediately decided to take the plunge and waited at the entrance of the military base, asking everyone he met about Xu Ruantang.
