Chapter 23 The Pants Are Gone?!

So Chen Ji hasn't changed his dressing properly these past few days?

Is that why I got inflammation and a high fever?

Xu Ruantang was scolded by the doctor, but she had to force a smile and then rushed off to pay the bill.

After finishing all that and returning to her ward, Xu Ruantang had just sat down when a nurse came in.

"Chen Ji's family members."

"I'm here." Xu Ruantang stood up weakly.

The nurse glanced at her and said, "This is alcohol for wiping patients' bodies. Towels and basins are sold downstairs in the hospital."

"Okay, thank you, I'll go right away."

Xu Ruantang stood up and walked out. The nurse nodded, "Okay, hurry back. Someone can't leave the patient alone."

Chen Ji still didn't react much. After being hooked up to an IV drip, his complexion improved and he sweated less.

He seemed more relaxed when he was asleep than usual, probably because his dark eyes were so cold that you couldn't see them and therefore weren't afraid.

As Xu Ruantang walked towards the hospital entrance, her mind wandered aimlessly.

The original book states that Chen Ji became lame, which should be due to this gunshot wound. It's just unclear what happened to the original owner of this body after Chen Ji fell into a coma.

Why do some people disregard their health and stubbornly endure until their wounds become infected? Xu Ruantang was somewhat angry; this was supposed to be the male protagonist of a novel, yet he didn't promote any positive energy at all.

Do you even understand the importance of cherishing life?!

She bought towels, a washbasin, and necessities like a toothbrush and toothpaste before heading back.

As they reached a corner, a child came running towards them. Xu Ruantang wasn't paying attention and almost knocked the child over.

"Excuse me."

"Sorry."

The two spoke at the same time.

Xu Ruantang looked up and saw that the little boy was fair-skinned and dressed in very decent clothes.

It's just the eye color; it looks like someone of mixed race...

There was no one behind the boy, and he looked somewhat flustered.

"fine."

Xu Ruantang steadied herself and prepared to leave.

She had only taken two steps when she realized that the little boy was tugging at the corner of her clothes.

Xu Ruantang was completely bewildered. Could it be that these days, there are also people who stage accidents to extort money?

"I'm sorry, I can't find my dad. Can you take me to my dad?"

The little boy spoke fluent English and tried to speak slowly as he looked at Xu Ruantang.

Those blue eyes stared unblinkingly at Xu Ruantang, their pupils slightly misty.

Xu Ruantang understood; he was saying, "Excuse me, I can't find my dad. Can you help me find him?"

She subconsciously glanced around.

Xu Ruantang felt that her current identity was very awkward. Even if she understood, she had to pretend not to understand, otherwise how would she explain it if others found out?

Xu Ruantang waved her hand, "Kid, what are you saying? Can you speak Chinese? I don't understand."

The little boy refused to let go and stubbornly repeated what he had just said.

"Are you unable to find your family? Or should I take you to the hospital's security office?"

The two talked at once, with Xu Ruantang pretending not to understand.

The little boy kept repeating the same thing over and over.

Xu Ruantang had no choice but to let him pull her along as he walked into the hospital.

"Daddy, looking for Daddy?"

She tried to explain in concise language, and the little boy nodded frantically.

The two of them entered the outpatient building in this way, talking at cross purposes. Xu Ruantang had to ask several people before she finally found the security department.

She stood outside the door and knocked. A man in military uniform quickly came out. "Well, did you find it?"

Upon realizing the woman was unfamiliar, the man quickly stopped talking and apologized sheepishly, "Sorry, I thought it was..."

"It's alright." Xu Ruantang asked, "Excuse me, if a child can't find their parents, could you help look for them at the hospital?"

Xu Hanli was anxious. His uncle's guest was a returnee from overseas who came to the hospital to discuss business with his child. Who knew that the child could get lost even with the nanny?

Now business is off the table, everyone's gone out to find people.

He had come to the security department to ask for help, and was just about to let Xu Ruantang go in and ask when he saw her little head sticking out from behind her.

Isn't this the child of one of our business partners?

"No, I know this child, we're looking for him!" Xu Hanli reached out to pull the child over, but the little boy was very wary and hid behind Xu Ruantang, refusing to come out.

Xu Ruantang glanced at Xu Hanli, her eyes filled with suspicion, "You really know him?"

It doesn't look like it at all.

Even though this person was wearing a military uniform, you can't trust him easily.

Xu Hanli had nowhere to voice his grievances, so he could only send the security personnel to find the little boy's father.

"Go inside and sit down. His father will be back soon." Xu Hanli glanced at the woman in front of him, his face full of black lines.

He was usually the object of worship; every woman looked at him with admiration, or at the very least, with respect.

The woman in front of him looked very wary, making him feel like a human trafficker.

Xu Ruantang didn't want to go in; Chen Ji was still waiting, and she didn't want to linger too long.

"Never mind, I'm in room 207 upstairs. You can find his father and come up directly. I can't leave."

As she spoke, she turned to go upstairs.

Xu Hanli panicked, "Hey, don't go! What if we go up and you're not there?"

"How could I not be here? My husband is still upstairs. It's not good for me to be away for too long; I'll get scolded when I go back."

Having just been scolded by the doctor, Xu Ruantang didn't want to be scolded by the nurse while still smiling obsequiously.

Is she some kind of despicable person? She gets scolded every day.

Hearing this, Xu Hanli thought the same thing and immediately said, "Is your man so unreasonable? Don't be afraid, I'll go up with you in a bit!"
