Chapter 276: The Protagonist's Halo?

The old lady raised her hand and covered her chest.

Her action startled Xu Ruantang, who jumped up.

Seeing the tension on her face, the old lady forced a smile and said, "It's alright."

The expressions on everyone's faces changed.

Chen Lin also stood up with some concern and walked towards the old lady. "Mom, should we go to the hospital?"

The old lady waved her hand, "Sit down, everyone. I have something to say."

After everyone was seated, the old lady took a sip of tea, put down her teacup, and said, "The deed is done, the photos have been sent to our home, and we can't just let it go like this."

Chen Gang looked at the old lady thoughtfully.

The old lady gestured for him to calm down with her eyes, "Second son, Shuling, tell me the truth, did you two consummate your marriage?"

Jia Shuling closed her eyes in silence, her eyes red-rimmed.

Chen Gang's expression gradually darkened.

The old lady's face showed a hint of understanding. She sighed heavily, hesitated for a moment, and then stood up. "You two come in."

She walked shakily into the bedroom first.

Chen Gang got up and quickly went over to help the old lady.

Jia Shuling followed with her eyes down.

Once the door was closed, they had no idea what was being said inside.

Xu Ruantang glanced with some concern toward the old lady's bedroom.

Chen Ji sat down beside her, subtly squeezed her hand, and whispered in her ear, "Don't be afraid, I've already asked Xu Hanli to prepare a car, and the doctor from the clinic is also waiting at the Xu family's house."

Xu Ruantang looked up and met Chen Ji's calm expression, which reassured her considerably.

She was standing by the door when Chen Jihao didn't come over for a while, so she thought he had gone to park the car.

So that's what he was doing, arranging these things.

Xu Ruantang held Chen Ji's hand and murmured, "As long as Grandma is alright, everything else is trivial."

That's what she thinks.

However, some people think differently.

Chen Lin snorted coldly, turned around and went upstairs.

Xu Ruantang moved closer to Chen Ji, "You stay here with Mom, I'll go to the kitchen to help my godmother cook."

She sat on a small stool in the kitchen, picking chives while thinking about what had just happened.

My godmother was chopping vegetables and telling me what had happened before they arrived.

The photos were sent directly to Chen Lin, and the guard placed them in his study. Upon seeing them, Chen Lin stormed downstairs and threw the photos in front of Chen Gang.

"Godmother, how did the outsiders find out?"

If Chen Lin only saw the photos today, how come they've spread like wildfire so quickly?

The godmother shook her head, "It's probably just a coincidence that someone saw it."

The photo was sent anonymously, and Chen Lin didn't know who the sender was.

But one thing is certain: the sender of the letter and the person spreading the rumor are either the same person or part of the same group.

The more she thought about it, the more confused she became, so she simply stopped thinking about it and focused on cooking with her godmother.

The old lady stayed in the room with Chen Gang and Jia Shuling for most of the day, and only came out together when it was time to eat.

Everyone was silent during the meal.

The old lady never brought it up again.

Seeing that she seemed to be in a good mood, Xu Ruantang left after finishing her meal with Chen Ji.

Before going home, I need to visit the Xu family first.

They were very close; Chen Ji pushed the cart, and Xu Ruantang walked slowly beside him.

It was already dark when the two people stood under a streetlamp chatting in front of the Xu family's house.

Xu Ruantang tugged at Chen Ji's sleeve, "Wait a minute."

She raised her chin, and Chen Ji looked over.

Under the dim moonlight and the yellow streetlights, Xu Hanli grinned like a lovesick fool.

If you look closely, you'll see that his whole face is red.

Standing opposite him, Shen Youyou held a book in her hand, a sweet and gentle smile on her face. "Comrade Xu, shall I go back now?"

"I send you!"

Xu Hanli scratched his head. "It's already dark. We can't let you, a woman, go back alone."

Shen Youyou raised her beautiful face, her eyes crinkling, "No need, it's just a short walk. See you tomorrow!"

Xu Hanli stepped forward and waved to her, mimicking Chen Youyou's manner, "Okay, see you tomorrow!"

As Shen You's petite figure receded into the distance, Xu Hanli remained standing in the same spot, his gaze fixed on the direction she had left in.

He only turned to go home when he could no longer see any shadow of him.

This turn of his head nearly scared the soul out of him.

Xu Hanli jumped back a considerable distance, clutching his chest in shock, "Old Chen! You can't scare people like that in the middle of the night!"

Chen Ji stared at him expressionlessly, his eyes full of inquiry. "We've been waiting for you for ten minutes. You have such low self-awareness."

Xu Hanli looked behind him.

Xu Ruantang stood beside the motorcycle, arms crossed, and raised her hand to greet him when he looked over.

Xu Hanli smiled guiltily.

"Is everything alright? The doctor from the clinic is still at my house. If everything is alright, I'll let him go home."

With a slow smile on his face, Xu Hanli lifted his foot to walk home.

"Okay, please thank the doctor for me."

Chen Ji did not stop him, but simply said something and then turned and took Xu Ruantang home.

Xu Ruantang was full of questions. As soon as she got home, she asked Chen Ji, "I have a feeling that someone deliberately leaked the information about Second Uncle."

Chen Ji parked the motorcycle in the yard and took out a tarpaulin to cover it up little by little.

“You think you’re right.” Chen Ji said calmly.

Xu Ruantang felt something was off about the recent series of events, but she couldn't quite put her finger on what was strange.

She thought for a moment, then swallowed the words that were on the tip of her tongue.

These are all her guesses; even if she told Chen Ji, he wouldn't believe her.

She went back to her room, grabbed a change of clothes, and went to take a shower.

The weather isn't too cold yet, so Xu Ruantang always takes a shower first.

She went into the bathroom, and Chen Ji started washing their clothes. By the time she came out, Chen Ji had finished washing his clothes as well.

Normally, Xu Ruantang would go straight upstairs at this time, but today Chen Ji was in the bathroom, so Xu Ruantang wandered around the main room.

Her mind raced as she went through all the recent events.

Many people in the compound disliked Jia Shuling, but few were as bold as her in sending anonymous letters and taking photos without her knowledge, risking being discovered.

After careful consideration, Xu Ruantang couldn't think of anyone other than Shen Youyou.

But what was her purpose in doing this?

It's simply that I dislike Jia Shuling and don't want her to have an easy time?

When Chen Ji came out of the shower, he immediately saw his wife spinning around in place.

Why aren't you going upstairs?

Xu Ruantang casually replied, "Right away."

Chen Ji paused in his hair-drying motion. "Wife, are you hiding something from me?"

His wife is the type who can't keep secrets from him.

At that moment, she was like an ant on a hot pan, clearly confused.

Xu Ruantang pursed her lips, blinked slowly, her expression extremely complicated. "Chen Ji, why do you think Xu Hanli likes Shen Youyou?"

Is it the protagonist's halo?

It's a bit too big.

Lu Shishen was originally a block of wood, but he broke his principles for her and didn't care about being talked about by the people in the courtyard.

Xu Hanli knew perfectly well that she had an ambiguous relationship with Lu Shishen, but he still liked her.
