Shen Qingwen handed the agreement to him, looking at him unmoved, and said calmly, "Your sister-in-law is right. You are still young. Once you have a child, you have to take responsibility. Otherwise, when the child grows up and knows that his father is useless, he will feel ashamed."
Hearing his son's cold words, Mr. Shen felt a sharp pain in his heart.
He glared angrily at Shen Qingwen, his eyes flashing with fury.
However, Shen Qingwen did not back down and looked back at him firmly.
"You...you unfilial son!"
Father Shen was trembling with anger. He pointed a trembling finger at Shen Qingwen, his voice filled with rage and disappointment.
Shen Qingwen looked at him expressionlessly, as if he hadn't heard his father's scolding.
His eyes revealed a resolute determination, as if he was ready to break with his father.
Shen's father's face grew increasingly grim. He suddenly stood up, preparing to leave the Li family.
His steps appeared somewhat unsteady, as if he had lost his balance.
Just then, Shen Qingwen coldly said, "Father, if you leave, I'll only give Mother the fifteen yuan."
These words struck Shen's father like a bolt from the blue.
He stopped, turned around, and stared at Shen Qingwen with wide eyes, his face filled with shock and disbelief.
Shen Qingwen's words struck at the heart of Shen's father, rendering him powerless.
His face turned from pale to white, his lips trembled slightly, as if he wanted to say something but couldn't find the words.
"And Er Gou, if you don't sign, you can forget about living in the house."
Shen Qingwen's voice was cold and resolute, leaving no room for negotiation.
Li Shuhe slightly raised her eyes, her gaze falling on the thin and haggard man in front of her.
Her eyes were filled with complex emotions, including heartache and pain.
Shen Qingwen looked exhausted, but his eyes revealed a hint of determination.
Li Shuhe sighed inwardly.
If Shen Qingwen had been able to pull himself together sooner, perhaps their relationship wouldn't have ended up like this.
They were once in love and dreamed of a bright future together.
However, reality was so cruel that it drove them further and further apart.
Li Shuhe's feelings for Shen Qingwen were complicated. Although she still loved him, she also harbored resentment towards him.
If he had been brave enough to face the pressures of life back then, perhaps they would have already moved into their dream home.
Whenever she thinks about these things, about those days when she was pregnant and still drinking, Li Shuhe feels immense pain and self-reproach.
She didn't know if she could forgive Shen Qingwen, nor did she know if the marriage could continue.
She closed her eyes, and images that frightened and filled her with guilt kept flashing through her mind.
But she knew that only by bravely facing the past could she rediscover her own happiness.
Shen Qingwen moved into the Li family's house that night, and he and Li's mother cooked dinner together.
His mother told him not to make it, but he insisted that Shuhe liked to eat what he made.
"Mom, Shuhe needs to pay attention to nutrition now. I can take good care of her and won't make things too hard for you."
Shen Qingwen's eyes were full of smiles.
When Li's mother heard this, she didn't react at first.
A moment later, the basin in her hand fell to the ground with a clatter. Mother Li looked sharply at Shen Qingwen and asked, "What did you say?! Shuhe is pregnant?!"
As someone who had been through similar experiences, Li's mother understood even though Shen Qingwen phrased it in a tactful way.
Shen Qingwen assumed the Li family knew, and was also taken aback for a moment.
She nodded quickly, her eyes red, and said, "Mom, Shuhe is almost three months pregnant. It was all my fault before. If it weren't for me, Shuhe wouldn't have to suffer so much."
Shen's mother had mixed feelings.
The child has been staying at home these days and hasn't said much.
She kept her pregnancy a secret from her family.
No wonder she kept hearing people vomiting in her house recently.
Mother Li immediately stepped forward to look at Shen Qingwen, her eyes filled with tears, "Now that you have a child, then live your life well and let bygones be bygones."
Shen Qingwen nodded repeatedly. He decided that he would treat Li Shuhe well in the future and give her and her child a happy family.
After dinner, Shen Qingwen went to the bedroom and saw Li Shuhe staring blankly out the window.
He walked over gently and hugged her from behind. "Shuhe, we have a child now. I will take good care of you and the baby from now on, believe me."
Li Shuhe turned around and looked at Shen Qingwen, her eyes blurred with tears.
When Xu Ruantang returned home that evening, her mood had noticeably improved.
These past few days, in order not to worry Chen Ji, she has always been smiling in front of him.
But Chen Ji knew very well that her smile was only on the surface and did not reach her eyes.
Chen Ji plans to take her on vacation to relax after he finishes this busy period.
"Honey, what's making you so happy?"
Xu Ruantang jogged into the kitchen.
Chen Ji was chopping vegetables when she picked up some unpeeled garlic cloves from the cutting board, took a small stool, and sat down not far from Chen Ji.
"Shuhe's matter can be considered to be over."
Xu Ruantang generally doesn't want to get involved in other people's affairs.
She couldn't help herself that time either. They were already very good friends, and she saw Li Shuhe being sad all the time, especially since she was pregnant.
Xu Ruantang couldn't bear to do it.
But once she got involved, she realized things weren't so simple.
The entanglements in this matter are far too complex.
“Shen Qingwen has already moved into the Li family’s house. I think the two of them can live a good life together from now on.”
Xu Ruantang smiled, her eyes crinkling.
Chen Ji's eyes flickered slightly, and he also curled up the corners of his lips: "You've been so busy lately, haven't you? Why don't you take a break?"
