Chapter 401 Chen Ji, I was wrong

Xu Ruantang quickly pressed down on his shoulder, "No need, the doctor at the clinic has already seen him."

Chen Ji insisted, and Xu Ruantang couldn't persuade him otherwise.

In the end, it was broad daylight when Chen Ji carried her into the car and took her to the hospital.

Despite her repeated insistence that she could walk on her own and that the injury to her back was not serious, Chen Ji insisted on carrying her on his back.

If it weren't for the injury on his back, Chen Ji probably would have been carried in his arms.

The two went around the hospital, and what the doctor said was exactly the same as what the health department said, but Chen Ji still got the hospital to issue a diagnosis certificate.

"I see. You want to get a certificate so you can use it when the police come?"

Chen Ji was driving, and Xu Ruantang was sitting diagonally in the seat, guessing what was going on.

"Don't rush ahead in everything in the future. The earth will keep turning even without you."

Chen Ji's voice was low and cold, completely ignoring Xu Ruantang's words.

Xu Ruantang glanced at him and noticed that his handsome face was filled with a gloomy aura.

She pursed her lips. "That's your mother."

The two returned to the compound, and Chen Ji carried her on his back as before, heading straight back to the Chen family home.

As soon as Xu Ruantang arrived at the Chen family's gate, she sensed that something was wrong.

The main problem was that a lot of people had gathered in front of my house.

"I'm back!"

Someone shouted, and the crowd instantly parted to make way.

Seeing Chen Ji's cold expression as he carried Xu Ruantang on his back, many people dared not breathe.

But some of the bolder ones shouted, "Deputy Brigade Commander Chen, the police are at your house, and the Cheng family of three has also come! What's going on?"

"Deputy Brigade Commander Chen, what's wrong with your wife? Why is she carrying you on her back?"

As soon as he got out of the car, Chen Ji took his shirt and covered Xu Ruantang with it.

Her back was injured, but no one could see it.

Xu Ruantang, perched on Chen Ji's back, glanced at the man and chuckled, "The police are here to arrest bad guys, of course. You'll know who the bad guys are and who gets arrested when they walk out of this door."

The crowd erupted in uproar.

Before anyone could ask any more questions, Chen Ji had already carried Xu Ruantang into the main hall of the Chen family home.

Inside the main room, Chen Lin sat in the center with a dark expression.

Ye Lan sat beside him, tears streaming down her face, and cried, "Officers, my daughter-in-law will be back soon, you'll see for yourselves. And so many people at the banquet today can testify. We don't want any compensation, we just want a fair resolution!"

The police officers who came to the door looked at Chen Lin, then turned to look at Cheng's father, and then exchanged glances with each other.

They're just unlucky to have gotten into this mess.

Footsteps reached the main room, and the seated people all stood up.

Chen Ji, with a cold expression, gently put Xu Ruantang down and sat down on the sofa next to her.

Cheng Dan originally did not want to come to the Chen family.

But since the police have already come to her door, if she doesn't come, she'll have to go directly back to the police station with them.

Even when the police came to her door, Cheng Dan remained calm.

After all, it wasn't the first time, and she didn't believe the Chen family would really make such a big deal out of it.

Besides, with her father around, how could she possibly go to jail?

But when Chen Ji appeared, Cheng Dan panicked for no reason and subconsciously hid behind her mother.

"Stepson, what did the hospital say? Is it serious?"

In her anxiety, Ye Lan blurted out the question.

Chen Ji's eyes were dark and brooding. "A burn? Is there one that's not serious? Otherwise, if someone burns my wife, I'll burn her a minor one too."

He spoke in a nonchalant tone, as if he were joking.

But Cheng Dan still felt a chill run through her body.

"Yes, yes, look how flustered I am."

Ye Lan stood up and said to the two police officers beside her, "My daughter-in-law is back. You can take her away."

Before the two police officers could speak, Cheng's father spoke first: "Wait, Chen Ji, Dandan was in the wrong. I've heard what happened from her mother."

Mr. Cheng sat up straight and looked at Chen Ji, saying, "Dandan is ignorant. Uncle came here today not to plead for her, but to hope that you will give her a chance, a chance to apologize and ask for forgiveness."

Mr. Cheng's father had probably been in a position of power for too long, and his tone of voice was never gentle.

He was clearly pleading for mercy.

But I didn't want to bend my waist at all.

After he finished speaking, without waiting for Chen Ji's response, he looked at Chen Lin again and said, "Old Chen, you are the head of the Chen family. Dan Dan was in the wrong. I'll have her apologize to Chen Ji. Our two families have always had a good relationship. Let's not make a scene over such a small matter and let others laugh at us, okay?"

Ultimately, Chen Lin and Cheng's father were colleagues.

It would be a bit of an exaggeration to say that such a small matter could lead to the two families never speaking to each other again.

Chen Lin pondered for a moment, "Old Cheng, I heard that the soup we ate today was meant for my wife's face. If it weren't for my daughter-in-law, she would be the one in the hospital right now."

We're getting old, can we handle it? Besides, burns are no small matter, you should know that better than I do.”

Upon hearing this, Mr. Cheng's face darkened for a moment.

He recalled some old memories.

"Old Chen, I'll have Dandan apologize to your daughter-in-law. Our family will cover her medical expenses and her subsequent nutritional expenses!"

Let's discuss this privately. Whatever you want, our family will give you! We're all from the same compound; there's no need to make such a fuss.

Cheng's mother also stepped forward, her face still pale, and the forced smile looked more like a grimace.

She had only been awake for a short while when the police came to arrest her daughter. Even now, standing there, she felt dizzy and disoriented.

"no!"

Ye Lan was extremely agitated. "What apology? Our family doesn't need it! What's the use of an apology? Does an apology make my daughter-in-law's back injury disappear? The injury isn't on your bodies, yet you make it sound so easy!"
