The scene was quite awkward at one point.
Chen Lin tried to speak several times, but Ye Lan stopped him each time.
Faced with the Cheng couple's combined efforts of soft and hard tactics, Chen Ji remained completely unmoved, glancing at Cheng Dan expressionlessly.
Cheng Dan trembled and hid behind her mother, too afraid to come out.

Chen Ji carried Xu Ruantang on his back all the way back to the courtyard, seemingly oblivious to everyone else.
After arriving home, Chen Ji settled Xu Ruantang on the sofa and poured her a glass of hot water.
"Honey, sit down for a bit, be careful of your back injury. I'll go cook. What would you like to eat?"
Chen Ji's expression softened, and his tone was exceptionally gentle.
She was a completely different person from when she insisted on splashing Cheng Dan.
Xu Ruantang blinked. "Anything is fine."
Chen Ji ruffled her hair and turned to go into the kitchen.
