Chapter 407 The Voice I've Been Longing For

The old lady regained consciousness the next day at noon.

Xu Ruantang and Chen Ji were at the hospital the night before, and they couldn't sleep well there, so Chen Zheng and Tang Wan arrived early in the morning.

"Ruan Tang, you've had breakfast with Chen Ji, go back to sleep now."

Tang Wan laid out the breakfast she had brought on the table one by one, and said with heartache.

Xu Ruantang had just washed her face in the washroom to clear her head when she heard this, and said with a smile, "Okay."

As she ate with Chen Ji, a question popped into her mind: "Sister-in-law, where's the child?"

Chen Zheng and Tang Wan both came to the hospital; the child needs someone to take care of him.

“I sent her to my parents’ home. Yi Yi is a little older now and she’s having a good time at her maternal grandparents’ house.”

Xu Ruantang and Chen Ji went home after having breakfast.

Sleeping with my days and nights reversed doesn't help.

When she got up, Chen Ji had already prepared a meal downstairs. He even brought his official duties home to handle, and then had them delivered back to the military base after he finished.

Before returning to the hospital in the afternoon, the two visited Ye Lan at the Chen family home.

Ye Lan was still dizzy. The doctor from the clinic came early in the morning to give her an IV drip. Her aunt and godmother were with her at home.

A week passed, and the old lady finally recovered.

Chen Lin originally wanted the old lady to stay in the hospital for a few more days, since she was old and needed to recuperate properly after such an incident.

To everyone's surprise, the old lady refused to stay any longer, insisting that being hospitalized was like being in prison, and that she was bored and wanted to go home.

After this incident, Chen Zheng and Chen Ji spent most of the day talking with the old lady.

The two brothers, who are usually not very talkative, are making their old lady so noisy that she's tired of hearing them.

"Alright, alright, Grandma knows. You've made Grandma dizzy."

The old lady started to shoo them away, saying, "Grandma won't do that anymore. I will never eat spoiled food."

Xu Ruantang also emphasized the dangers of food poisoning to her godmother and Ye Lan.

Ye Lan understood perfectly and nodded repeatedly in agreement: "Yes, yes, Mom understands. I will keep an eye on your grandma from now on."

Xu Ruantang and Chen Ji had dinner at the Chen family's house before returning home.

As soon as the old lady fell ill, the Chen family kept coming to visit, and the two of them couldn't leave even if they wanted to.

As the two were walking back, they heard people chatting on the road.

"Have you heard? The Cheng family's son was discharged from the hospital today."

"I ran into her this afternoon. She didn't look well and seemed to be very ill."

"The doctor said it's mostly a psychological issue. My niece is in a military hospital, and she says she can't eat anything and is only keeping herself alive with injections!"

"She's really pitiful. She only gave birth to one daughter for the Cheng family, and she almost died of anger."

"Whose fault is it? If she had taught her child properly back then, things wouldn't have come to this."

Xu Ruantang overheard the entire conversation between the two people who were passing by.

They were talking about Cheng's mother.

Xu Ruantang has been staying with the old lady at the hospital recently and has heard some of what happened.

Cheng's mother was suffering from emotional distress; such a problem couldn't be cured by the hospital.

After everything was settled at home, Xu Ruantang started thinking about visiting Xiaobao, but she hadn't had a chance to tell Chen Ji yet.

When she got home from get off work, she found that there was something extra in her house.

"Telephone?!"

Xu Ruantang's eyes lit up when she saw the telephone line that had been installed in her home.

If there weren't other people around, she would have rushed into Chen Ji's arms and asked him what had happened.

In contrast, Chen Ji was much calmer.

"Okay, come and give it a try."

Xu Ruantang had just walked over when the phone rang.

As soon as she picked up the microphone, the voice she had been longing for came through, and Xu Ruantang almost burst into tears.
