Chapter 44 You need to discuss this with your sister-in-law.

Xu Hanli and Xu Ruantang stared at each other in the courtyard. Xiao Bao looked at one, then turned to look at the other, and then shouted excitedly.

Indeed, human joys and sorrows are not shared.

"You're so happy?" Xu Ruantang chuckled and touched Xiaobao's face. It felt incredibly smooth and tender. She had to control herself every day to resist sucking Xiaobao's lips.

Xu Hanli stared at Xu Ruantang with a strange look in his eyes, and said in a low voice, "Chen Ji is still your man. How can you be so heartless as to laugh when they are alone in a room together?"

Xu Ruantang casually picked at her ear, and after a long while, managed to squeeze out a single word: "Oh."

She's dutifully guarding the door right now, and no outsiders are seeing her.

"No, what kind of attitude is this?" Xu Hanli was anxious. He was used to lecturing in the army and couldn't help but want to scold Xu Ruantang.

Only after he said it did he realize that he had overstepped his bounds.

Xu Ruantang looked up at the sky speechlessly, "Didn't Dr. Cheng say that she came to examine Chen Ji's body?"

"Furthermore, breaking up a military marriage is illegal. They are both soldiers, so they wouldn't knowingly break the law."

Dr. Cheng didn't understand that for someone like Chen Ji, making him do something against the rules would be worse than killing him.

Although he has retired from the military, a person's personality is innate, and this person is definitely the type to make a big deal out of things.

Xu Hanli couldn't understand her thought process at all, and sighed with disappointment, "What if Chen Jixian changes his mind and wants to divorce you?"

Military marriages protect soldiers; if Chen Ji wants a divorce, what can she do?

Xu Hanli disagreed with her idea.

Nothing in this world is absolute. As long as you swing your hoe well, you won't be afraid of not being able to dig out the corner.

Xu Hanli knew exactly what Cheng Dan was thinking; otherwise, she wouldn't have gone on a hunger strike to protest against Chief Cheng and get this opportunity to go on fieldwork.

It's true that the emperor isn't worried, but this palace official is frantic.

"Oh." Xu Ruantang really didn't know what to say.

She couldn't possibly tell Xu Hanli that Chen Ji and she were only in a marriage of convenience! Such a thing would be absurd in this day and age, and few people could accept it.

Seeing that Xu Hanli was about to pull his hair out, Xu Ruantang had no choice but to rack her brains to come up with a comforting remark: "Comrade Xu, if Chen Ji changes his mind, not even the King of Heaven himself could do anything about it. You're a man, you should know better than me that a man's heart can't be kept just by guarding it."

Xu Ruantang has never been in a relationship, and she doesn't understand anything about feelings. She just read all of this while scrolling through short videos.

Xu Hanli was clearly moved by her high-sounding words and seemed to be still savoring them.

After a moment, his eyes lit up, and he stood up abruptly, walking out while saying, "Wait here!"

He was easily startled, and as long as he didn't lecture Xu Ruantang, she could have some peace and quiet and didn't care what he did.

As soon as Xu Hanli left, the courtyard quieted down. Xu Ruantang turned to the side and listened intently to the sounds coming from inside the house.

Just because she doesn't care doesn't mean she's not a gossip!

Gossip is human nature.

After listening to nothing for a while, she gave up in boredom and turned to tease Xiaobao: "Xiaobao, call me Daddy, Daddy."

Xiao Bao looked up at Xu Ruantang's mouth, stared for a long time, then suddenly smiled with narrowed eyes, his dimples sinking deep.

"Little Bao, is Daddy's face big? Tell me, it is!"

"Little Bao, is Daddy's face big? Tell me, it is!"

"Little Bao, is Daddy's face big? Tell me, it is!"

Xu Ruantang believed that hard work pays off, and Xiaobao would definitely be able to understand and answer in time!

Xu Hanli returned quickly, holding two candied hawthorns in his hand.

"Here, Comrade Xu, please have some. Thank you for the flower cakes and vegetable dumplings!"

"Thanks."

This is the countryside; you can't just buy candied hawthorns whenever you want. You have to be lucky.

Xu Ruantang happened to want to eat it, so she didn't stand on ceremony and took it and stuffed it into her mouth.

"Xingxing, come here, can Uncle hug you for a while?"

Xu Hanli reached out to Xiaobao, and Xiaobao, for the first time ever, opened her arms. Xu Hanli was overjoyed and immediately pulled her into his arms.

When Chen Ji and Cheng Dan lifted the curtain and came out of the house, this was the scene they saw: Xu Ruantang was biting on a candied hawthorn and holding Xiao Bao's little hand in one hand, while Xu Hanli was holding Xiao Bao in his arms and also stuffing candied hawthorn into his mouth. He was so silly that when he bit into it, candy crumbs fell all over Xiao Bao's head.

"Comrade Xu, you let something slip! Your candy fell all over Xiao Bao's head!"

Xu Ruantang watched as Xiaobao's eyes were closed from being hit, feeling both angry and amused.

Xu Hanli frantically tried to remove the sugar crumbs, mumbling incoherently, "Oh, I'm sorry, Xingxing, Uncle was careless!"

"I'll carry you."

Chen Ji walked over in a few steps, picked up Xiao Bao and helped her clean up the sugar residue. Before leaving, he gave Xu Hanli a cold look.

Xu Hanli and Xu Ruantang had no objections and consciously kept quiet while eating their candied hawthorns.

As for Chen Ji's death stare, he was oblivious and didn't feel it at all.

Cheng Dan looked at the tall and handsome Chen Ji, forced a smile, and walked over to him to tease Xiao Bao.

Then he turned to Xu Ruantang and said, "Comrade Xu, I brought some malted milk powder with me. Xiaobao is still young and needs more nutrition. Remember to make her a cup every day. Thank you. You must have had a hard time taking care of Chen Ji and Xiaobao these past few days. Thank you so much. I thank you on behalf of Chen Ji."

Xu Ruantang looked back at her and laughed heartlessly, "Okay, definitely, Dr. Cheng is too kind."

Knowing she's tired, why not give her a raise! Give her a thank-you bonus! Give her a tip!
