“It’s coffee candy,” Tang Wan said softly, patting Xu Ruantang’s hand to signal her to ignore it.
Xu Ruantang smiled at Tang Wan, "Thank you, sister-in-law. You go about your business, don't worry about me."
Tang Wan nodded. "I'll come out after I finish washing the dishes with your older brother. You can sit on the sofa for a while. If you get sleepy, Chen Ji's room is over there."
Xu Ruantang looked in the direction Tang Wan was pointing. The innermost room on the first floor had its door tightly closed.

Tang Wan went into the kitchen, and Xu Ruantang sat down on the sofa with a cup of coffee.
On the table was a plate of small boxes that Jia Shuling had just been holding. She picked them up and looked at them; they did look quite similar to the small pastry boxes she had eaten when she was a child.
The packaging is red and yellow, a small cardboard box, with the words "Goose Brand Coffee Solid Beverage" written on it.
"You country folk, have you never had coffee before?" Jia Shuling chimed in again.
Xu Ruantang put down her water glass, looked at the package, and then opened it. "Yes, we country folk don't even have enough to eat. How can we have the innate sense of superiority that Sister Jia has?"
She gave a casual reply, her curiosity piqued that coffee existed these days.
Upon opening it, I discovered it was a type of candy made from pressed white sugar and ground coffee powder. It could be eaten dry or dissolved in water.
The pressed cake has a white goose pattern on it.
It tastes like a light coffee flavor with a strong sweetness.
Jia Shuling rolled her eyes and said sarcastically, "If you haven't tried it before, drink more. You don't get to see this kind of good stuff every day."
Xu Ruantang leaned back on the sofa and nodded expressionlessly. "Okay, thank you, Sister Jia. Sister Jia has seen a lot of the world. I'll just come to you if I need anything in the future. You're so capable, you shouldn't refuse such a small request, right?"
After lunch, Xu Ruantang's brain felt like mush, and she even began to wonder if she had an eating disorder.
Jia Shuling didn't expect her to be so shameless, still wanting to ask her for things. Dream on! She immediately rolled her eyes again.
Just as I was about to yell at her, I heard a sound coming from the stairwell.
Chen Ji walked down with a cold expression and a languid gait.
Cheng Dan stood up first, her face slightly flushed, and asked, "Chen Ji, are you coming to my house tomorrow, or should I go to your house to find you?"
If it weren't for needing to confirm the meeting time with Chen Ji for tomorrow, she would have gone home for a nap long ago.
Sitting next to Xu Ruantang made Cheng Dan feel like she was lowering her own status.
This woman is so talkative and has no manners whatsoever. Even though my aunt is an elder, she always has to talk back.
Chen Ji is such a proud and reserved person, he'll get annoyed with her sooner or later.
"What do you want from me?"
He was speaking to Cheng Dan, but Chen Ji's gaze bypassed her and landed on Xu Ruantang.
Xu Ruantang leaned back on the sofa, yawned with a vacant look in her eyes, and her misty eyes made her even more captivating.
Chen Ji's lips curled slightly as he took a step to walk around Cheng Dan.
Cheng Dan stepped forward, quickly blocking Chen Ji's path, almost touching him.
The curve of Chen Ji's lips hardened with coldness. He turned away, creating some distance, and his gaze slowly darkened.
Not getting the answer she expected, Cheng Dan forced what she thought was a very attractive smile, "Of course I'll go with you to get checked. Our hospital gets really crowded on weekends, so let's go together and I'll have them check you first."
“Dr. Cheng, we’re not acquainted.” Chen Ji took a long stride and sat down next to Xu Ruantang. “Please have some self-respect.”
Cheng Dan opened her mouth, tears welling up in her eyes.
She had never said anything as offensive as Chen Ji had ever said before, even though he was always cold and aloof.
It must be Xu Ruantang. She complained to their faces, and who knows what she said behind their backs!
