The two ate at a state-run restaurant. Chen Ji ordered a steamed fish, stir-fried pork with bamboo shoots, and hot and sour shredded potatoes.
When someone came to serve the dishes, Xu Ruantang consciously fell silent.

She picked it up and looked at it; it only showed the row and number, but no movie title.
"You brought me to see a movie?"
Xu Ruantang looked at Chen Ji with a heart full of questions and confusion.
Chen Ji nodded slightly, "Okay, let's go."
Cinemas in this era looked quite like university lecture halls, with crowded, hard seats.
