Chapter 96 Chen Ji, I'm scared

The two ate at a state-run restaurant. Chen Ji ordered a steamed fish, stir-fried pork with bamboo shoots, and hot and sour shredded potatoes.

When someone came to serve the dishes, Xu Ruantang consciously fell silent.

Upon hearing the word "terrible," Chen Ji's expression visibly darkened.

In an instant, he regained his composure.

He extended his well-defined hand and placed the plate of fish in front of Xu Ruantang, saying softly, "Eat first."

The two ate in silence, with Chen Ji occasionally picking up a piece of fish, removing the bones, and placing it in Xu Ruantang's bowl.

Xu Ruantang felt an increasingly strong, strange feeling inside her, but she had no experience and didn't understand what it felt like.

Chen Ji wanted to order another soup, but Xu Ruantang refused.

Luckily she refused, otherwise we would have been in big trouble today. It's not convenient to pack this kind of food at this time of year, and there are no disposable lunch boxes available.

Fortunately, Chen Ji was there. After she finished eating, Chen Ji finished off the remaining dishes.

Xu Ruantang daydreamed that if she could take Chen Ji on a trip, she could order every dish she wanted to eat without worrying about wasting food.

After finishing their meal, Chen Ji took her back to the hospital and pushed a bicycle out of the shed.

"Get in." Chen Ji patted the back seat.

Xu Ruantang asked, "Where are we going?"

Chen Ji narrowed his long, narrow eyes slightly, without answering directly, "You'll know when you get there."

She didn't know what Chen Ji wanted to do, but after thinking about it, she still sat down.

Yesterday's visit to the Chen family already took up a whole day, and today I have to accompany him to the hospital.

Now he wants to take her out, which will delay her from making money.

Chen Ji took her out of the hospital on his bicycle. The afternoon breeze was blowing, the sky was blue, and the air was filled with the fragrance of flowers.

Xu Ruantang gripped the bicycle seat with one hand, tilted her head, and asked Chen Ji, "When do you start work?"

"tomorrow."

Xu Ruantang was relieved and secretly hoped that he would go to the army soon and stop causing trouble.

Chen Ji, carrying her, couldn't feel the weight of the back seat. He used to feel the weight of Xu Hanli when he carried her.

"Xu Ruantang." Chen Ji's voice was carried away by the wind, his deep tone becoming soft.

"Um?"

“He grabbed my clothes.”

Where Xu Ruantang couldn't see, Chen Ji's Adam's apple bobbed slightly; he actually wanted to say, "Hold me."

Afraid of scaring her, he changed his words before he could finish speaking.

Xu Ruantang watched the street scene slowly receding along the way, feeling a little drowsy under the sun.

"No need." Her voice was very soft, with an unconscious hint of coquettishness in her drowsy state.

Later, she became very confused and unconsciously leaned against Chen Ji. After a while, her hands wrapped around his waist and she hugged him tightly.

She proved herself wrong with her actions.

Her soft, delicate face pressed against her back, and her waist was encircled by her fair, lotus-root-like arms.

Chen Ji froze for a moment, his body tensed, and a surge of heat welled up in his heart.

A moment later, he slowed down his bicycle and his demeanor softened.

"Wake up, we're here."

Xu Ruantang was woken up by being patted.

Someone was patting her face, again and again. She was shocked when she woke up!

Her head was still resting in Chen Ji's palm as she stared at him with a sorrowful expression.

What are you doing?

She didn't have that much of a grudge against Chen Ji, did she?! He actually slapped her in the face.

"Get up, we've arrived," Chen Ji said patiently.

Xu Ruantang jumped off the bicycle, looked up, and saw five large characters: Liberation Cinema.

The huge poster was actually painted with oil paint, stroke by stroke. She looked up at it for a long time.

Chen Ji bought the tickets and handed them to Xu Ruantang.

She picked it up and looked at it; it only showed the row and number, but no movie title.

"You brought me to see a movie?"

Xu Ruantang looked at Chen Ji with a heart full of questions and confusion.

Chen Ji nodded slightly, "Okay, let's go."

Cinemas in this era looked quite like university lecture halls, with crowded, hard seats.

Xu Ruantang couldn't understand the seat number on the ticket at all, so she could only follow Chen Ji.

She sat next to Chen Ji, the man's arm resting on the armrest, and he tilted his head slightly and said in a low voice, "I've wanted to watch dubbed films from abroad for a long time, and I just happen to have some free time today."

Xu Ruantang nodded, but she didn't actually understand and didn't know what "dubbed film" meant.

When the movie started and the sound came on, she understood.

It turns out they just hired domestic voice actors to do the dubbing, and it had a very exaggerated tone.

Halfway through the movie, Xu Ruantang was completely stunned.

Chen Ji brought her to see a movie called "Back to the Future," which is basically a time-travel movie.

The people in the film invented a time machine, allowing them to travel through time at will.

Xu Ruantang's whole body stiffened, and cold sweat poured down her back.

Chen Ji sat to her right, and she turned her head slightly to look at him in the dim light.

Their eyes met, and Xu Ruantang's heart raced. Chen Ji was also looking at her!

Whether it was because the light was too dim or she had lost her composure, she couldn't make out Chen Ji's expression at all, only that his eyes were as deep and unfathomable as a still pool.

At this moment, Xu Ruantang had even decided how she would die.

She closed her eyes and finally understood what it meant to be heartbroken!

I knew Chen Ji was smart, but I didn't expect him to be this smart and alert.

He brought her to see this kind of movie on purpose, didn't he?!

Just then, Chen Ji leaned closer to her, his voice deep and magnetic: "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"

His gaze lingered on her face, his eyes calm and unwavering.

The movie continued, and amidst the rumbling noise, Xu Ruantang looked up at Chen Ji.
