This kid is really tough on himself!
After the meal, we had fruit. Chen Ji rode a motorcycle with two adults and two children on it.
Xu Ruantang sat in the back holding Xiaobao.
Huan Molin sat strangely in front of Chen Ji, his back hunched over because of his height.
Even so, he was so excited that he refused to go down.
"Uncle, your car is so cool!"
"Let's get going!"
In those days, there were no vehicle checks, and it was common for motorcycles to carry several people; everyone was used to it.
With Xiao Bao being so small as to be negligible, and the three adults barely qualifying as adults, there's not much to see.
Xu Ruantang had seen it before; there were five people sitting on a motorcycle.
She was so shocked her jaw almost dropped.
But this didn't cause a stir. Passersby would at most glance at it, and then they would go about their own business.
Xu Ruantang also agreed to let Chen Ji take them out.
One reason was that she felt anxious at home, and since she couldn't concentrate on anything anyway, she figured she might as well clear her mind.
Another reason is that Huan Molin couldn't stay at her house.
After we finish strolling around the park, I'll see if I can give him a ride home.
If Xu Ruantang gets really busy, leaving her half-grown son at her house will also be a problem.
The car couldn't go any further when it reached the entrance of Beihai Park, so Xu Ruantang got out of the car with Xiaobao in her arms.
Chen Ji took Huan Molin to park the car.
He probably thought that Xu Ruantang alone couldn't possibly take care of two children.
Society is not that safe now.
The flower girl would occasionally appear in crowded places.
Xiao Bao stood on the ground, with Xu Ruantang holding her hand.
Perhaps because the environment was unfamiliar, Xiao Bao didn't run around. Instead, he opened his two big, round eyes and looked around.
Soon, her gaze fixed on one spot, and she remained completely still.
Xu Ruantang followed her gaze.
"Xiao Bao, do you want a balloon?"
It turned out to be balloons of various colors, being sold by vendors.
Xiao Bao seemed to understand, and carefully pointed to the balloon not far away with his hand, then his eyes returned to Xu Ruantang.
She didn't run over directly, nor did she cry or make a scene; she just watched longingly.
Xu Ruantang is incredibly soft-hearted.
She picked up the baby and kissed her on the cheek. "Come on, Mommy will take you shopping."
"What other people have, my little one also has. I'm not envious of them."
Xiao Bao got his favorite big red balloon and hugged it tightly, even flashing Xu Ruantang a six-tooth smile.
She was making faces and trying to act cute.
Chen Ji quickly returned with Huan Molin, who was also holding a pink balloon in his hand.
But his face was stiff.
Upon seeing Xiaobao, she quickly shoved the balloon string into his hand, saying, "Here! Your dad bought this for you, and you insisted on having pink. It's so ugly!"
Xiao Bao watched two balloons of different colors fluttering in the air and laughed happily.
When no one was looking, a slight smile crept onto Huan Molin's lips.
The family of three, along with Huan Molin, took a long walk around Beihai Park.
The children rode the carousel.
Xiao Bao is too young and must be accompanied by an adult.
Chen Ji also sat down awkwardly once.
Before going up, Xu Ruantang suppressed a laugh, "Otherwise, I'll take Xiaobao to sit, and you don't need to go up."
Chen Ji firmly refused, "No need, I'll bring it myself."
If he knew that this incident would later become a source of ridicule for Ye Lan and the old lady, he would probably regret his decision today.
What did Chen Ji do wrong?
He just wanted his wife to have fun without being disturbed.
Before going in, Xu Ruantang and Chen Ji both thought that Huan Molin would resist these things.
I didn't expect to miscalculate.
He had even more fun than Xiaobao.
The group played until sunset before coming out together.
"Uncle, I'm hungry, let's go home."
Huan Molin's excitement hadn't faded yet, his eyes sparkling, "I want to eat Uncle's cooking."
"Want to eat it?"
Before Chen Ji could speak, Xu Ruantang said, "If you want to eat it, you'll have another chance. If you curry favor with your uncle, he might make it for you again."
Huan Molin's expression changed instantly.
He keenly sensed the meaning behind Xu Ruantang's words.
So she asked in a trembling voice, "Sister, do you find me annoying?"
Xu Ruantang pursed her lips. "No, how could that be? It's just that I have a competition starting tomorrow, and I really don't have time..."
"You just find me annoying, you think I'm a burden! And you want to send me back to that frozen house again!"
Huan Molin suddenly became agitated and took a few steps back while shouting.
"I'm a burden. I'll just stay away! I'll leave! I'll leave, okay?!"
As he spoke, he rushed into the road without a care in the world.
The cars on the road were so frightened that they honked their horns and stopped, too scared to move.
Cars didn't travel very fast back then, especially in urban areas.
There aren't that many cars either.
Chen Ji reacted quickly, grabbing him and holding him firmly so he couldn't move.
"No one is abandoning you. You are twelve years old and should be responsible for your actions."
Chen Ji's voice was deep and resonant: "Only children would resort to unreasonable demands to achieve their goals."
"Are your sister and I your family? Are you going to stay with us for the rest of your life?"
Huan Molin was unable to resist.
In fact, Chen Ji's absolute suppression left him no room to resist, and he even blushed.
His eyes quickly filled with tears.
Before he could fall, Chen Ji spoke again, "If you want to be the kind of man you're talking about, don't do anything you'll regret."
