Chapter 75 Dreaming of Marrying a Wife

The task of inviting the village chief was left to Fan's father.

Originally, it should have been Yuan's father who went.

Because of his leg problems, his father had to do it for him.

The village chief came with Fan's father.

They were all amazed to see the huge cow bones and several baskets of meat in the yard.

I'd like to ask them how they managed to hunt such a large bison?

But everyone was asleep, so I had to suppress my curiosity for the time being.

Then he ran to look at the three calves tied up to the side.

When the calf saw someone approaching, it mooed softly in its babyish voice.

He was clearly terrified.

The one with the larger ends must have been weaned not long ago.

One of the smaller ones might not even be weaned yet.

After using the outhouse, Yun Xiaoxiao went back to sleep.

When she woke up again, everyone else was still asleep.

The food was ready, and Yuan's mother was debating whether to call them now.

When Yun Xiaoxiao heard that it was time to eat, she hurriedly went to call a few people who were still sleeping.

They picked up the porcelain basin they had brought back, which had been warped from being knocked, and started banging it against Yuan Shitou's ear.

Yuan Shitou was still having a sweet dream, dreaming that he married Xiaoxiao.

The tap startled me, and I opened my eyes.

Everything has changed; only then did I realize I was dreaming.

Looking at Xiaoxiao helplessly, he said, "Why didn't you call me later?"

Let me dream a little longer.

Yun Xiaoxiao leaned closer to him with a malicious look and asked:

"What kind of dream are you having? Are you dreaming about getting married?"

Yuan Shitou was taken aback: "How did you know?"

Yun Xiaoxiao asked gossipily, "Whose daughter did you marry? Tell us."

Yuan Shitou really wanted to say: Of course I'll marry you.

Afraid that she would get angry and ignore him, he could only scratch his head and smile sheepishly.

Yun Xiaoxiao was just joking and didn't mean to pry.

At lunchtime, the table is set up in the middle of the courtyard.

Yun Xiaoxiao also asked Yuan Shitou to put the two tables together.

It's only when everyone sits around the table to eat that it's lively.

While eating, the village chief listened to their account of the bison hunt.

The events described are true, of course, but the four bison were mistakenly identified as one.

The village chief had no doubts.

Imagining that wonderful scene made him really want to try it.

But I'm getting old, and my legs aren't very good anymore.

Going up the mountain will only hold everyone back.

One can only sigh that youth is truly wonderful.

The village chief knew they were going to Misty Mountain.

Because Fan's father had already mentioned it when he invited him to dinner.

He was surprised and angry at the time.

Why are these kids so disobedient?

The elders repeatedly warned them against going to Misty Mountain.

Why won't they listen?

What if something goes wrong?

I was thinking of giving them a good talking-to later, and telling them not to go there again.

After hearing their account of the hunt, I was somewhat skeptical.

"Are you really on the outskirts of Misty Mountain?"

Yuan Shitou nodded: "Yes, it really is on the outskirts."

"Besides seeing bison and these two wild boars, did we really not encounter anything else?"

The village chief asked again, in a disbelieving tone.

Yuan Shitou nodded again: "And pheasants and rabbits."

Yun Xiaoxiao understood what the village chief meant and quickly replied:

"We only saw bison."

We didn't spot the two wild boars because they were in the shadows.

However, there are many wild animal calls at night.

There are wolves, bears, tigers—it's all there; it sounds a bit scary.

The village chief thought to himself, "Sure enough, what the older generation said was true."

Misty Mountain is fraught with danger.

His expression was somewhat serious: "You shouldn't go in there anymore."

"It wouldn't be right to risk your life for a little prey."

Yun Xiaoxiao smiled and nodded: "Uncle Village Chief is right."

From now on, we'll be more careful and stay on the outer perimeter, avoiding the inner area.

The village chief was speechless. So after all that talk, they still wanted to go.

Little did he know that Yun Xiaoxiao would drop another bomb on him, leaving him questioning his existence.

She picked at her earlobe with her little finger and asked in an incredulous tone:

"What did you just say? You're going down the mountain to sell things."

Seeing Yun Xiaoxiao nod, she asked again, "What are you selling? How do I get down the mountain?"

So Yun Xiaoxiao told him her plan.

The village chief looked at Yun Xiaoxiao with a pair of very penetrating eyes.

After a long pause, he said, "Xiaoxiao, you're a good girl, and I admire you very much."

The Stone family has been incredibly kind to you.

I hope you can stay and live a good life.

Don't let their good intentions go to waste.

Yun Xiaoxiao was taken aback when she heard this, realizing that he had misunderstood.

He quickly shook his head with a smile: "Uncle, you're overthinking it."

I just wanted to go down the mountain to sell things and earn some money; I never thought about leaving.

Besides, I don't even remember where my home is.

I only remember having an older brother.

Once I've made a good living and have money, I'll go find him.

But I won't leave here. My family and friends are here to help me, and I don't want to leave.

The village chief was somewhat incredulous: "How could you not remember where your home is?"

Where are your parents? How come you only have one older brother?

So Yun Xiaoxiao explained why she came out and why she was targeted by human traffickers afterward.

I fell and hit my head while running away, and I can't remember many things.

He also talked about his future plans.

Everyone who heard this sighed with emotion.

With some sympathy, Fan's mother said, "So you weren't sold by your family, but were kidnapped by human traffickers."

Oh, how pitiful.

That damned human trafficker is so despicable and despicable!

The village chief also sympathized with her plight: "You don't even remember where your home is? How are you going to find your brother?"

Yun Xiaoxiao said firmly, "That's why I need to earn more money."

No matter where my brother is, I will find him.

He is my only true relative in this world.

If I can't find him, I'll be an unwanted orphan.

After speaking, her eyes were red, and she forcefully suppressed the tears that were about to fall.

She tilted her head back, trying hard to hold back her tears.

Seeing this, Yuan's mother felt heartbroken and hugged her tightly.

"Little one, don't be sad, you still have us."

We are your family too.

"Once we have money, we'll have Stone accompany you to find your brother. You won't be left alone and helpless."

Yun Xiaoxiao wiped away her tears and nodded.

She really, really wanted to find the original owner's brother.

He was also her brother.

This feeling is genuine; it's not something that's faked.

She thought that her souls from both lifetimes had merged and become one person.

To prevent Xiaoxiao from being sad and upset again.

The village chief steered the conversation back to what had happened earlier.

He looked at Yuan Shitou and said, "The road down the mountain is difficult to travel, and it is both long and dangerous."

Are you sure you want to go?

Yuan Shitou scratched his head: "I'll listen to Xiaoxiao."

Yun Xiaoxiao has now composed herself and said with a smile:

"Brother Stone and his group have found a way down the mountain, and they can get out in just eight or nine days."

The road is just difficult to travel.

I want to go and check it out first.

The village chief looked at Yuan Shitou in surprise: "Does this road cross that big river where the monster lives?"

Seeing Yuan Shitou nod, he immediately objected: "No, we can't take that road, it's too dangerous."
