Chapter 186 I am a Special Agent

"A jewel thief?" Song Ziqing and Lin Chengyu exclaimed in unison, their faces filled with astonishment.

Roger nodded slightly, his eyes firm as he affirmed, and then said in a heavy tone, "This is not the worst situation. According to the reliable information we have, the criminal group behind Annie is quite powerful, and its members are by no means ordinary people."

They've likely targeted the two of you in this operation, attempting to steal an extremely precious and priceless treasure from you.

Upon hearing this, Song Ziqing and Lin Chengyu exchanged a glance, both looking quite puzzled.

They racked their brains but couldn't figure out what rare treasures they possessed that could attract such covetousness from these fierce and brutal bandits.

"Honey, you can't leave my side these days."

Lin Chengyu was worried about his wife's safety. She had been kidnapped in Hong Kong before, even though she was right next to him, and he didn't want to encounter such an accident again.

So what should we do now?

Lin Chengyu asked Roger impatiently, his voice clearly tinged with anxiety.

Roger frowned and fell into deep thought. After a while, he slowly replied, "The current situation is not clear enough, so please do not take any rash actions."

It would be best if we remained inactive for the time being, patiently observing and waiting for further developments, while staying highly vigilant and closely monitoring their next move.

Furthermore, we must strengthen security measures to ensure the absolute safety of both of you.

After listening, Song Ziqing and Lin Chengyu nodded in agreement and made a quick decision to stay at home for the time being, waiting for the situation to develop further so that they could gather more useful clues.

Surprisingly, even such a private rumor as that of a jewel thief could be overheard by an outside bodyguard!

Meanwhile, the woman named Anne continued to live peacefully in Paris.

This inevitably raises serious questions about her background—what powerful backing does she have? Has she already joined the underworld?

It's important to understand that the shadow of the Mafia has always loomed over certain corners of Europe.

It is highly likely that the organization Anne joined is exactly the same as these mafia organizations.

They might control a vast underground force, easily handling any trouble; or perhaps Annie herself is one of the key figures in this mysterious organization…

Various speculations arose in my mind, making the whole incident increasingly perplexing.

For the next two days, Song Ziqing and Lin Chengyu stayed at home, remaining vigilant at all times.

However, as the days went by, nothing unusual happened.

Just as they were beginning to consider whether they should go out again, the doorbell rang suddenly one evening.

Lin Chengyu glanced nervously at Song Ziqing, then walked to the door and looked out through the peephole.

A strange woman stood outside the door. She was wearing a black coat, had a pretty face, but her eyes revealed a coldness.

"Who is it?" Lin Chengyu asked loudly.

“I am Annie.” The woman’s voice was calm and low.

Song Ziqing and Lin Chengyu exchanged a glance, their hearts filled with doubt.

They didn't understand why Annie had suddenly come to their door.

Lin Chengyu opened the door, and Annie walked into the room.

She looked around, then her gaze fell on Song Ziqing and Lin Chengyu.

“I know you’re curious about my identity, and you’ve even had my background checked,” Anne said slowly. “Actually, I’m not some jewel thief; I’m a secret agent.”

Song Ziqing and Lin Chengyu were dumbfounded.

“I recently received an important mission—to protect a priceless artifact. And right now, this invaluable treasure is firmly in your hands.”

Anne continued firmly, "What that vicious criminal group really covets is not you yourselves, but this unique artifact."

After saying that, Annie took out a yellowed photograph from her pocket and carefully handed it to Song Ziqing.

When Song Ziqing saw the item in the photo clearly, she couldn't help but widen her eyes in astonishment—wasn't this the ancient Egyptian "Book of the Dead of Ani" that they had bought at the flea market a few days ago?

“That’s right, this mysterious scroll is a national treasure that we must defend with all our might,” Anne said solemnly. “It carries immeasurable historical significance and profound mysteries. Without further ado, please hand it over to me immediately.”

After exchanging a glance, Song Ziqing and Lin Chengyu both showed expressions of disbelief.

Clearly, they were skeptical of what the mysterious woman said.

After all, the true identity of the woman in front of him was shrouded in mystery, which aroused suspicion.

"I'm sorry, we don't have the painting you mentioned," Lin Chengyu replied firmly.

Upon hearing this, Anne frowned deeply. "That's absolutely impossible! The intelligence we have is absolutely reliable. There's no doubt it's hidden among you."

You had contact with that stall at the flea market before, and the stall owner explicitly stated that the painting was bought by a man and a woman of East Asian descent!

Song Ziqing retorted irritably, "You just said you're a special agent, so you must be very professional at finding things. You might have already searched the hotel we're staying in while we were away. So, did you find the scroll you mentioned?!"

Anne stared sharply at Song Ziqing. "If the scroll isn't here, then there's only one possibility: you've hidden it somewhere else. I hope you won't refuse to cooperate; if you don't, the consequences will be severe."

Song Ziqing and Lin Chengyu looked at each other, and they began to wonder if, as Annie said, this painting really hid some secret.

"Whether you believe it or not, the painting you mentioned isn't in our hands. If you don't believe me, you can go look for it anywhere we can hide things!" Song Ziqing said firmly.

Seeing this, Anne knew that it would be difficult to achieve her goal today.

She gritted her teeth. "Fine, since you refuse to hand over the scroll, don't blame me for being impolite. I'll keep an eye on you until I find it." With that, she turned and left.

After the door closed, Song Ziqing and Lin Chengyu fell into deep thought.

Is this Anne friend or foe?

What is so special about that painting?

A series of questions troubled them.

It seems that they will have to find the answer themselves to solve this mystery.
