Chapter 30 Changing Tea

The middle-aged man was a smart man; he saw through Song Ziqing's little scheme at a glance.

He said directly and frankly, "I'll trade half a pound of ten-year-old Baihao silver needles for one tael of red robe. Are you willing?!"

Seeing his determined look, Song Ziqing had no choice but to agree.

The two also agreed on a time and place to exchange tea leaves, and the middle-aged man readily left.

Lin Chengyu looked at Song Ziqing with some surprise and asked, "Why are you being so generous this time? The original Da Hong Pao tea tree from Wuyi Mountain is priceless."

"I think that person has an extraordinary air about him. I don't want to offend him. After all, we've already offended one person today. If we offend another, I'm afraid we won't be able to leave Guangzhou!"

Song Ziqing had no choice. If possible, she would not want to change the tea leaves, but she was more capable of doing things her own way.

When you're out and about, being considerate of others is also being considerate of yourself.

Next, Song Ziqing bought a Kodak camera and some film. With the camera, taking photos would be much more convenient. She used to enjoy taking photos when she traveled all over the world. At first, she just wanted to make a living, but as her photos became more and more interesting, she earned more and more money and eventually made a living from it.

Song Ziqing felt very uncomfortable without her camera for the past month. She saw many beautiful people and scenes but couldn't capture them with her camera, which she regretted.

She found a Kodak camera at the Friendship Store, a brand new model. She fiddled with it and felt that it was a bit outdated, but compared to domestic cameras, it was still much clearer to use.

After buying the camera, Song Ziqing also bought several Suzhou double-sided embroidery pieces from a silk counter. These were light and thin, taking up almost no space in his backpack.

By this time, she had used up almost all of her foreign exchange certificates. She exchanged all the remaining few hundred yuan for them at the snuff bottle counter.

After she and Lin Chengyu left the Friendship Store, she sighed and said, "No matter how much money I have, it's still not enough!"

Lin Chengyu asked with a smile, "You ever have a time when you're short of money? Back when we were in school together, you were always treating people to meals. At that time, I thought you were a sucker."

"I was too young back then. We were all classmates and friends, and I saw that they weren't doing well, and they were going through three years of drought, so I thought I should help them if I could."

Looking back now, I realize that those so-called classmates and friends really just thought I was a sucker. Once my parents were sent to the countryside, I couldn't find them anymore.

Even my two best friends—one only visited me once, and the other simply bought out our years-long friendship for ten yuan.

Thinking about all this, Song Ziqing felt sorry for the original owner of this body, feeling that she had failed as a person.

Yesterday, she went to see those two good friends, not for friendship, but just for networking. In the future, when she goes to Hainan, she will inevitably run out of supplies. When she has friends in Shanghai to deal with, it would be good to ask them to help her buy some old supplies from Huai Kingdom.

She wouldn't feel guilty if the two of them took advantage of her in the past, and she could let them pay it back to her slowly in the future.

"Let's not think about these unhappy things anymore. Let's find a place to have dinner and then go back to the hotel to rest early."

Lin Chengyu has been all alone all these years, with no one able to enter his heart. This was true in his past life, and it is even more true after his rebirth.

Only at this moment did he feel that he could enter the depths of Song Ziqing's heart, and that she could enter the depths of his heart at the same time.

"Okay, let's go to the state-run restaurant for some porridge. I'm really tired right now, so I just want to have a simple dinner and then go back to rest."

Song Ziqing nodded and accepted her kindness. She knew that it was only the early 1960s, and if she wanted to return to the city, it would be the late 1970s, a full ten to twenty years before she would have the opportunity to return. Even if she returned to the city, her and Lin Chengyu's youth would be long gone.

In that case, it's better to cherish the present and look to the future.

She regarded everything that had happened before as a dream.

The two ate dinner peacefully, returned to the hotel, and had a good night's rest.

Around nine o'clock the next day, Song Ziqing got up, ate a little snack, and then walked with Lin Chengyu, carrying Da Hong Pao tea, to the teahouse where they had arranged to meet the middle-aged man the day before.

This place was near the two's hotel, so when the middle-aged man learned about their hotel yesterday, he mentioned this teahouse, and Song Ziqing assumed it was just a place to drink tea.

Once inside, she discovered it was a dim sum restaurant, and the variety of breakfast items made her feel hungry just looking at them.

"Oh my god, Xiaoyu, I regret not going out with my neck empty!"

"I didn't eat much, I can still eat some more now." Lin Chengyu loved seeing Song Ziqing get his comeuppance.

"If we eat now, we won't be able to finish all the delicious food Tingting prepared for us at noon!"

Song Ziqing had heard Yu Tingting say that her mother was an excellent cook and made very authentic Cantonese dishes.

As the two were chatting and laughing, the middle-aged man arrived. This time, he wasn't alone; he brought a young man with him, who seemed to be an assistant. This made Song Ziqing and Lin Chengyu much more composed, and they sat up straight, looking at the middle-aged man.

The middle-aged man introduced himself with a smile: "Young friends, I'm being a bit unreasonable this time. I am Cao Jing, the director of the Guangzhou Revolutionary Committee. If you encounter any trouble in Guangzhou in the future, you can mention my name."

The reason I wanted to exchange tea with my friend yesterday was to give it as a gift. My father-in-law is about to turn eighty. He has no other hobbies in his life, but he loves drinking tea the most. However, he comes from an ordinary background and has never tasted good tea before.

He had heard of the original Da Hong Pao tea trees in Wuyi Mountain, and he wanted to drink this fine tea before he died. That's why I half-forced my young friend to exchange tea with me.

After hearing his explanation, Song Ziqing and Lin Chengyu were relieved. They both liked such a filial person.

Song Ziqing readily divided the tea leaves in two, put one portion back into the small tea canister, pushed it in front of Cao Jing, and said, "Director Cao, my name is Song Ziqing, and this is my fiancé Lin Chengyu. We are both educated youth sent to the countryside from Shanghai. We will be going to the countryside in Hainan tomorrow, and we will only have time to meet again in the future."

Cao Jing smiled and looked at the two of them, praising, "You two are truly a perfect match. When you get married, you must write to let me know so I can send you a small gift."
