Chapter 37 The Arrival of Educated Youth

After more than twenty minutes, everyone saw that most of the houses in the village were made of earthen bricks and tiles, with a few being thatched roofs. They felt that although this place was a bit mountainous, the villagers' lives should be better than the villages they had seen before. The village they passed by was mostly made of earthen bricks with straw roofs, with a few being earthen bricks and tiles.

The ox cart did not stop when it passed the village entrance, but drove directly to the entrance of the brigade department before stopping.

"Okay, everyone get off the bus."

"The village chief is inside. Go find him to arrange accommodation. The youth camp isn't finished yet. Stay with the villagers for a few days."

Guo Youxing heard the noise and came out of the house. When he saw a few strangers, he knew they were educated youth.

"Hello, village chief," the educated youth greeted him one after another.

"Well, hello to you too. I'm Guo Youxing, the village chief of this village. If you have any important matters in the future, you can come to me."

Hearing what the village chief said, the educated youth introduced themselves one after another.

"I'm Chen Chen, from Guangzhou"

"Lü Xin"

"I am Chen Xiaomin, from Chaoshan"

"Ma Liying, from Huaiji"

When Guo Youxing saw that the educated youth were all sweating, he knew that they must be exhausted.

"Okay, it looks like everyone is tired. I'll take care of your accommodation first. Come to my house for lunch. It's the first house at the intersection. Go to the brigade headquarters this afternoon to get food. I'll deduct it from your work points then. Take a day off tomorrow and go back to work the day after tomorrow."

"Everyone, follow me."

After saying that, he took them to the end of the mountain. There was only one elderly widower in that family. Grandma Liang was a relative of a soldier or martyr. When Grandma Liang heard that some educated youth were coming to stay with her, she expressed her welcome, saying that it would be more lively with more people and she was welcome to arrange for them to live in her house.

Grandma Liang has a big yard with two big houses. One of the houses is divided into two rooms, and the other is divided into a main room in front and a bedroom in the back. There is a small kitchen in front of the house and a toilet in the corner of the backyard.

There are four educated youth here now, and there are just two of them in one room.

After greeting the old man, Lu Xin and Chen Chen walked to the front room. "We male educated youth will live in the front room, and you female educated youth can live in the back room."

"good"

The two female educated youth walked to the back room and asked, "There are only two of us and we won't be staying here for long, so why don't we share a bed?"

"Okay, then let's clean up the room first." Ma Liying had no objection. Anyway, they would move out once the educated youth camp was completed, so there would be no need to set up a new bed.

Most people here sleep on wooden beds. They put wooden boards on long benches, straw mats on the wooden boards, and then a bamboo mat on top to make it less hard.

"Dad, you're back." Deng Qingling was sitting in the yard basking in the sun. When she saw Guo Youxing coming back, she stood up and greeted him.

"Well, where is your mother?" Guo Youxing asked.

"Mom is preparing lunch in the kitchen," Deng Qingling responded.

"Please sit down, I'll go help you," Guo Youxing said and walked towards the kitchen.

"You're back. How many educated youth are here?" Liang Xueying asked.

"Four people, two men and two women, all living in Aunt Liang's house at the end of the village." Guo Youxing continued chatting with Liang Xueying.

"How are people?" I'm just afraid that someone will come and stir up trouble all day long.

"I don't know yet, but I'll know after a while."

"Cook more food. I've invited the educated youth to come over for dinner. They just arrived and probably don't have much to eat."

Guo Youxing looked at Liang Xueying's expression. She wasn't angry, was she?

"You are so generous even though you are poor. Food is so precious." Liang Xueying glared at him.

The first time I met him, I invited him to my house for dinner and he ate so much.

"They just arrived. It's not easy for them to come here from such a long distance. Let's help them if we can." Guo Youxing squatted there to help light the fire and cook.

They are almost the same age as my own children. I am also a parent, so I feel a little bit sorry to see these half-grown children. Besides, they rely on their parents at home and friends outside, so I will help as much as I can.

"Are you the only good person?" Liang Xueying asked.

"No, no, you are the good guy and I am the bad guy," Guo Youxing joked with her.

Guo Youxing didn't know that his wife was always tough on the outside but soft on the inside.

"Okay, okay, go and call someone over for dinner." Liang Xueying was a little helpless. The older this man got, the thicker his face became.

"Okay, I'll go right away." Guo Youxing patted Liang Xueying's butt and went out.

"This old man is so dishonest, he's not afraid of being seen." Liang Xueying's face turned red instantly. What if her daughter-in-law came in from outside and saw it? It would be so embarrassing.

The educated youth

Just as Lu Xin and Chen Chen had finished packing, Chen Xiaomin and Ma Liying came to the door.

"Didn't we say we were going to the village chief's house for lunch? This is your first time going to someone's house for dinner, so what should you bring with you?" Chen Xiaomin asked.

"I have a bag of snacks here," Lu Xin took out a bag of peach cakes.

"I have a bag of glutinous rice noodles," Ma Liying raised the thing in her hand.

"I took a pound of dried fish." Chen Xiaomin didn't have anything else, just a lot of seafood.

"I've finished mine. How about this, as for the food, we can consider it as a gift from both of us. I'll go to town tomorrow and buy some food so we can eat together, okay?" Chen Chen felt a little embarrassed. If he didn't take anything, wouldn't that be taking advantage of others?

"Okay, I have no objection. What about you?" Lu Xin looked at Chen Xiaomin and the others.

"Okay," Chen Xiaomin agreed.

Ma Liying said: "I have no objection"

Everyone gave their things to Chen Xiaomin because her bag was big enough.

"Let's go," Chen Chen said and went out with them.

When I was almost at the entrance of the village, I saw the village chief coming towards me.

Guo Youxing said, "You came at the right time. I was worried that you might be embarrassed to come to my house, so I was just about to call you over."

"Hello, Uncle Village Chief," everyone greeted.

"Sorry to bother the village chief uncle" Lu Xin

"Just call me Uncle Xing. No need to be so polite. You just arrived and have nothing. After dinner, I will take you around and then go get food." Guo Youxing led them home.

"Okay, thank you Uncle Xing," Lu Xin expressed his gratitude again.

As soon as they entered the yard, they saw Deng Qingling waiting at the door with her hands on her waist.

"Dad, it's time to eat," Deng Qingling said with a smile.

"Well, okay, this is my daughter-in-law, you can just call her sister-in-law." Guo Youxing pointed at Deng Qingling.

"Hello, sister-in-law," the educated youth said in unison.

"Hello everyone, come in, it's time for dinner," Deng Qingling said and went to the kitchen to get the dishes and chopsticks.

Guo Youxing entered the house first and found some stools for them to sit on.

"Everyone, sit down," Liang Xueying just happened to come in with a hot pot of food. Seeing them standing, she spoke.

"Hello, auntie, this is a little gift from us. I hope you don't mind it," Chen Xiaomin said as she took the things out of her bag.

"You are so polite. We are just having a meal, so why should I ask for your things? It's just a matter of having more pairs of chopsticks for more people." Liang Xueying pushed the things away.
