Chapter 18: Variety

One of the small flowers on the letter paper is the same as the one on the handkerchief in Chen Yuefei's hand.

Jiang Yun knew that this must have been stuffed in by Chen Yuefei.

She had just praised Chen Yuefei's beautiful handkerchief in the morning, and in the afternoon he sent her the pattern.

The big boy who looks lively and energetic is quite considerate.

Jiang Jun examined the ornate English letters. As far as she knew, only a few middle schools in Beijing offered English courses, or only foreign language schools had English departments. The handwriting was clearly practiced. To write so smoothly and beautifully, imbued with a European romantic charm, was truly rare.

The door slammed, and it was Jiang Lan coming home.

Jiang Jun quickly put the letter into the plane geometry book and put it into his schoolbag.

Fortunately, she was the only one who had the key to this room. If Zhang Xiuying saw it, who knows what she would say.

Jiang Lan ran in. Her legs were short, but her words were fast and numerous. "Sister, I'm hungry. Why hasn't Mom come back yet? Please help me with my homework. After dinner, I'll read you a piece of 'Lin Hai Xue Yuan'. I want to know if Yang Zirong has entered the bandit's lair."

Jiang Jun took out a novel and said, "Come on, let's go to the outer room and write."

This way, Zhang Xiuying wouldn't always want to enter her room, as if she had hidden something good in the house.

While copying the text, Jiang Lan asked, "Sister, do you think Yang Zirong will get hurt?"

Jiang Jun answered absentmindedly, "He shouldn't be hurt, right? How could a good person get hurt?"

The two sisters were not focused on their homework. After writing a few words, they both made mistakes.

There was only half of the eraser left. In order to speed up, Jiang Yun broke the eraser into two halves again, pinched the eraser with his fingertips, and carefully erased the homework book.

Jiang Lan's Chinese homework book had been used so many times that it couldn't withstand the force of the eraser. A slight tug opened up many small cracks in it, and the more she rubbed, the more it tore. "Sister, I don't want to write anymore. I'll get a new book when Mom comes back. Can you read me a story first?"

Jiang Jun likes to finish his homework before reading novels, so that he can have nothing to worry about. "You can read for a while while I finish copying your math problems."

Jiang Lan picked up the novel and flipped through two pages: "Sister, I don't know this word."

Jiang Jun leaned over to look. "A surprise attack, that word is pronounced 'xi'!"

Zhang Xiuying stepped into the room and saw the two sisters' heads pressed together, happily reading a novel. Furious, she walked over, raised her hand, and swung it at Jiang Jun: "You're doing homework and reading novels at the same time! Look at how capable you are!"

When Zhang Xiuying entered the room, Jiang Jun caught a glimpse of her anger. Before the slap landed, he ducked down and dodged Zhang Xiuying's iron palm: "I didn't read the novel. It was Xiaolan who asked me because she couldn't read."

Zhang Xiuying rushed forward and grabbed Jiang Yun's arm, ready to hit him again: "You still dare to quibble and push the blame onto your sister!"

Jiang Jun saw that Zhang Xiuying looked like she had been upset outside and was looking for trouble. She pulled her arm back with all her strength, suppressing her anger at being wronged, and pointed at the notebook on the table: "Look! I'm copying homework!"

Zhang Xiuying called back, urging him to continue. "Just copy the test questions, why are you reading novels? You're not setting a good example for your sister! How are you going to get into university with this attitude?"

Just now, when we were chatting at Mrs. Tian's house, Mrs. Tian told Zhang Xiuying with some pride that she was going to work at the Military Service Center.

The welfare benefits of the military service center are very good. The salary is the same, but the work is clean and easy, and you can buy many scarce supplies first. It is a good unit that the family members in the compound are eager to get into.

Although Zhang Xiuying is hardworking, she is illiterate. She can calculate accounts clearly but cannot read a goods transfer list. After Jiang Yonghua secured an opportunity for her to work in a service center once, he was too lazy to help her find a job again.

Having one more person earning a salary in the family can reduce the financial burden. Moreover, no matter how much she earns, whether at home or outside, when she chats with other family members about salary, she can also join in the conversation and compare with others.

Then, Mrs. Tian kept telling her, "If the service center has any good stuff in the future, I'll save it for you!"

Keep it, keep it, and you don’t have to spend money to buy it?!

Zhang Xiuying was embarrassed and said goodbye to Mrs. Tian on the pretext of going home to cook.

Everyone else has a good job, but she doesn't!

Everyone else in the family has a say, but she is the only one who can't control anyone. Not only does her eldest daughter not listen to her, she also locks her own room and won't let her, her mother, in.

Without education, you can't do anything and can only endure the anger and have to look at other people's faces.

Zhang Xiuying was filled with rage, but she didn't dare to vent it on Jiang Yonghua, nor could she bear to scold Xiaolan. So she could only take it out on Xiaojun, who didn't fight back when she was beaten or scolded!

Unexpectedly, Jiang Jun didn't fall for it. He picked up his pencil and fought back, pointing the tip of the pencil upwards to block Zhang Xiuying's slap: "I said I didn't read the novel, it was Xiaolan who was reading it! It was Xiaolan who asked me!"

Zhang Xiuying never thought that Jiang Jun would dare to fight back or talk back. The anger she suffered outside immediately exploded after being hit by Jiang Jun. She increased the strength of her hand and swung it down, hitting the tip of the pencil and making a hole in her palm.

Zhang Xiuying pulled her hand back and looked at the blood oozing from her palm in disbelief.

After a brief silence, Zhang Xiuying roared, "You damned child! How dare you stab me!"

Jiang Jun grabbed the pencil and ran out. If he didn't run, he would be beaten to death by Zhang Xiuying!

So what if there are neighbors outside? Just let them see it. She doesn't believe that anyone would speak for the unreasonable Zhang Xiuying.

Jiang Yonghua came back on his bike and grabbed Jiang Yun at the door. "What's wrong? You're running out after dinner?"

"Dad!" Jiang Jun couldn't help but burst into tears. "She wronged me! She even beat me!"

Jiang Yonghua's forehead veins throbbed. Why was there never any peace at home? "Go inside and talk."

Zhang Xiuying stood in the room with her bloody palm extended, yelling, "I wronged you? Look at my hand! You're trying to kill me!"

Jiang Jun wiped away her tears, only regretting that her eyes weren't as big as Zhang Xiuying's, so she couldn't glare at her more. "If you had listened to my explanation, if you hadn't hit me so hard, your hand wouldn't have been hurt at all! I can't take any more beatings on my head. I can't even put my pencil down before I have to hide with my head in my hands."

Usually, onlookers will subconsciously define the one who bleeds first as the weaker one, and their sympathy will tend to the weaker one.

Jiang Jun knew that Jiang Yonghua was already somewhat disgusted with Zhang Xiuying's noise, so he explained the reason for the incident in the shortest possible sentence.

Jiang Yonghua suppressed his anger and said, "Xiaolan, accompany your mother to the clinic to get some medicine."

Jiang Lan was already crying with fear. Wiping her tears, she tugged at Zhang Xiuying's sleeve and said, "Mom, let's go to the clinic. I'm afraid of seeing you bleed. I don't want you to get hurt."

Zhang Xiuying held up her injured right hand and deliberately squeezed past Jiang Yun when she went out, pushing Jiang Yun aside with her elbow.

Jiang Jun stared at Zhang Xiuying's back with a frown, his chest about to explode with anger.

She and Zhang Xiuying have a feud. Want to thaw it? No way!
