Chapter 25 Borrowing Books

Jiang Yun knew that he didn't look like Zhang Xiuying.

She even secretly hoped that she was not Zhang Xiuying's biological daughter, so that she could justify severing her relationship with Zhang Xiuying psychologically.

As a daughter, she couldn't ask Jiang Yonghua whether she was Zhang Xiuying's biological daughter, and she didn't want to do a paternity test. What if she was her biological daughter? Even her fantasy of running away from home to find her biological mother would be gone!

The matter of the smashed window glass was finally resolved after Chief Shi of the Logistics Department persuaded the staff of the Logistics Department to replace the glass for the Jiang family that same day.

After all, there are so many boys in the compound, and you can't suspect anyone unless you catch the person himself.

Zhang Xiuying wanted to refuse to give in, but Section Chief Shi said a few words, meaning that they were all his sons, and even if they were caught, they would just have to apologize and pay a piece of glass. If they continued to scold him, it would affect the unity and would have a bad impact on Jiang Yonghua's work.

Zhang Xiuying was still angry after not getting the result she wanted, so she could only continue to blame Jiang Yun: "It's all because of you, you damned child. If it weren't for the tattered handkerchief you embroidered, the glass wouldn't have been smashed."

The devilish sound pierces my head, chattering endlessly...

Jiang Jun could only pretend that she was on Jiang Heng's crew. While adding firewood to the stove to boil water, she thought that after enduring for another two years and getting into college, she could leave this home. At that time, she would not come back if she could.

When Jiang Yonghua pushed his new Phoenix bicycle home, the depressing atmosphere at home had not changed.

Because this bike was bought for Jiang Yun, Zhang Xiuying's anger was aroused again: "Xiao Jiang, look at your good daughter, she's just embroidering something on the handkerchief. You gave her such a good bike to ride. Sooner or later, she will lose it!"

Jiang Yonghua was also angry: "What nonsense are you talking about? You have no control over your mouth. I just ran into Section Chief Shi on the road. Do you know what he said about me? I'm in the Confidential Affairs Department, not the Propaganda Department. With a loudmouth like you, I'm going to be punished sooner or later!"

Zhang Xiuying refused to accept this and continued to complain, "They've come to my house to bully me, smashing my windows in broad daylight, and you won't let me speak?"

Jiang Jun was listening to Jiang Yonghua and Zhang Xiuying arguing in the kitchen. She knew why Zhang Xiuying was so arrogant - Jiang Yonghua was a paper tiger and his threatening words never came true!

She couldn't stand it anymore. This ineffective and repetitive argument triggered her obsession to end the cycle.

Jiang Jun opened the kitchen door and walked into the dining room: "Dad, I've already prepared dinner."

Jiang Yonghua pushed the new bicycle under the living room window. The new bicycle with shiny wheels looked very luxurious in the living room. "Okay, let's eat first. After dinner, we can clean the bicycle. Tomorrow is a day off. I won't work overtime. I will teach you how to ride a bicycle at home."

Jiang Lan's eyes lit up: "Dad, can you teach me too? My classmates can all do triangle dance."

Jiang Yonghua took the bowl of noodles that Jiang Yun brought out and put it on the table. Seeing the decent dinner, his mood immediately improved: "Okay, you and your sister should learn." By the way, he praised Jiang Yun: "Xiao Yun has learned to cook. You are making great progress!"

The happiness of the three of them made Zhang Xiuying feel left out, and she became even more angry: "They use enough oil for three meals to cook one meal! If they keep doing this, our family will be left with nothing!"

Jiang Yonghua threw down his chopsticks and asked, "When did your family leave you starving?"

Zhang Xiuying also threw down her chopsticks: "If I hadn't calculated carefully, my family would have been broke long ago."

"How many years have you been in charge? How many days has she only learned to cook?" Jiang Yonghua frowned, "You start yelling every time it's time to eat. Don't you want to let anyone eat properly?"

Jiang Jun said nothing, turned around and went to the kitchen, scooped out the remaining half bowl of noodle soup from the pot, brought it to the dining room and sat down at the table. "I'm wrong. I'll only eat half a bowl."

In this era, all supplies are in limited supply. Each household can only buy two kilograms of oil per month. The amount of oil she uses in cooking will not last for a few days.

Jiang Yun, who had only eaten meals cooked by others and fast food, also knew his shortcomings, admitted his mistakes openly, and punished himself.

Jiang Lan's good mood was ruined by her parents' quarrel. Seeing that her sister only ate half a bowl, she pouted and said, "Mom, I won't eat anymore. I'll leave it all for you."

Zhang Xiuying glared at Jiang Jun fiercely and said sternly, "Xiaolan, eat your food! You're so well-behaved and sensible, you deserve it!"

Jiang Yonghua was in a bad mood because of the noise. He picked up his chopsticks and said to Jiang Jun and Jiang Lan, "Let's eat. No more talking. Starting tomorrow, I'll still be cooking. Xiaojun, you don't have to do it either. Your mother's hand will be healed in a few days." He looked at Zhang Xiuying and said, "If it really comes to the point of having to drink the northwest wind, I'll drink it and you don't have to. Is that okay?"

In the end, the low pressure in the family ended with Jiang Yonghua's compromise.

After dinner, Jiang Yonghua cleaned up the kitchen and went to ask Jiang Yun about the handkerchief: "Your starting point is good, but your mother is right. You have to be careful about what you say and do now. If you were in the local area, you would have been caught by the pigtails long ago."

Jiang Yun had no idea about the struggles of that period. In her impression, the more traditional the era, the simpler people's hearts were. "What will be the consequences of holding on to this?"

Jiang Yonghua said: "They were criticized in meetings, then locked up, and some were even dragged out for public parade."

Jiang Jun was stunned: "Isn't this unreasonable?"

Jiang Yonghua smiled wryly, like a scholar facing a soldier, unable to explain his reasoning. "Reasoning and debate are all things in books. Without weapons, there's no chance of reasoning. By the way, where did you read those poems?"

In order to prevent Zhang Xiuying from being nosy, Jiang Yonghua took away all the books in the house that were not related to current affairs and placed them in the office.

Jiang Jun lowered his head and whispered, "It's a collection of Tang and Song poetry that a classmate lent me."

She took out a copy of Selected Tang and Song Poems wrapped in newspaper from her schoolbag and handed it to Jiang Yonghua: "This is it."

Jiang Yonghua was startled. "Don't wrap books in newspaper. I'll bring you some brown paper later." He quickly tore through the newspaper. Fortunately, there were no sensitive words. He flipped through the book and saw a pencil note inside: "Did a male classmate lend it to you?"

Jiang Jun answered honestly, "Chen Yuefei lent it to me. He said it was his brother's book and he secretly showed it to me."

Jiang Yonghua raised his eyebrows: "Why did he lend you the book?"

Jiang Jun pursed his lips and said, "I was taking turns reading 'Lin Hai Xue Yuan' with him."

Jiang Yonghua fell silent and continued flipping through the poetry collection: "Do you understand it?"

"I don't understand it, but there are not many books to read." And it is much more interesting than those simple short stories that are like popular reading materials. Jiang Jun found that when he was bored, he could best understand the loneliness of those great poets in ancient times.

Jiang Yonghua wanted to say something, but opened his mouth and held it back. As long as his daughter didn't borrow the book because she had any feelings for the other person, there was no need to deliberately prevent the interaction between classmates.

What's more, the owner of the book has gone to the army, so he doesn't need to worry about anything.
