Jiang Yun was sleeping soundly.
Chen Yuefei squatted beside the bed, slapped Jiang Yun's nose several times, and gently pushed Jiang Yun's shoulder with his fingers, but Jiang Yun did not react at all and did not move.
Even the rhythm of my breathing hasn't changed.
Chen Yuefei suddenly had an idea. He stood up and walked to the window. He pulled out two inches of thread from the curtain, twisted it with his fingers, and squatted back to the bed. He put the thread ends into Jiang Jun's nostrils, turned it gently, and before Jiang Jun sneezed, he quickly retreated and hid behind the curtain.
"A-choo, A-choo!" Jiang Jun sneezed twice in his sleep, rubbed his nose and opened his eyes.
In the darkness, only the alarm clock on the bedside was ticking. Jiang Jun felt thirsty, so he threw off the quilt and sat up, fumbling to put on his slippers. Without turning on the light, he opened the door and walked out, going downstairs to get some water.
After entering the restaurant, Jiang Jun turned on the light and tiptoed to the kitchen to pour a cup of hot water. When she turned around and saw Chen Yuefei sitting at the dining table smiling at her, she was so scared that she almost poured the water on herself.
"When did you come here? Why didn't I hear you?"
"I called you, but you probably didn't hear me pouring water."
"Would you like some water? I'll get you a glass."
"Just boiled water."
Jiang Jun took a nap and drank half a cup of hot water, which made him feel completely awake. "You have a report to give tomorrow, why are you still awake so late?"
The military headquarters' bulletin board was filled with congratulatory messages, photos, and the specific time of the advanced deeds report meeting. As soon as the foreign guests' convoy left, a banner was hung in front of the club's gate, which read, "Warmly welcome all officers and soldiers of the advanced deeds report group" and "The army is my home, and the people are my family."
Chen Yuefei put his finger to his lips and said "hush", lowering his voice, "I have something important to show you!"
He opened the envelope in the book, took out a few black and white photos half the size of a palm, and pushed them in front of Jiang Jun.
Jiang Jun picked it up and looked at it curiously. It was a photo of a boy about ten years old. One of the photos was of a boy wearing a Tibetan robe. His hair was very long, almost covering half of his face, and there were traces of high altitude erythema on his face.
The other two photos showed him with a shaved head and wearing Han Chinese clothes. One was a photo with Chen Yuefei, and the other was taken when he was in a daze.
Whether it is a posed photo or a candid shot, the little protagonist in the photo will not smile, but frowns and stares blankly at the camera.
Chen Yuefei pointed at the photo of the bald man in a daze: "How about it, does he look familiar? Can you tell who he looks like?"
Jiang Jun had a strong premonition in his heart, but he was too nervous to speak. He bit his lips and shook his head.
Chen Yuefei took credit for it like he was presenting a treasure: "Xu Zhijian said he looks like you! Especially your eyes, more like you than you and Uncle Jiang."
Jiang Yun didn't dare to breathe, waiting for Chen Yuefei to reveal the answer.
Chen Yuefei looked at Jiang Jun: "And his surname is also Jiang, his name is Jiang Yuan."
Jiang Jun's mind buzzed. He stared at the person in the photo, his face pale. He asked in a stammer, "Where is he?"
Chen Yuefei put his finger to his lips, leaned forward slightly, and said in a very low voice, "He's still in our border defense company. Do you know him?"
Jiang Jun was so nervous that he couldn't breathe. Thousands of words were stuck in his throat and he could only shake his head.
Chen Yuefei seemed a little disappointed. "When I first saw him, I thought he looked very much like you. I was also thinking, is there any relative of Uncle Jiang's who has ended up on the grassland?"
Jiang Jun picked up the photo with trembling fingers, brought it close to his eyes, and looked at it carefully, trying to find the unique mark that belonged to Jiang Yuan in his memory.
The photo is too small and not clear enough to be confirmed.
Seeing Jiang Jun's change of attitude, Chen Yuefei asked with a smile, "Is it because Uncle Jiang and you are very similar?"
Jiang Jun unconsciously picked at the position of Jiang Yuan's eyebrows in the photo - in the original time and space, her father Jiang Yuan had a mole in his eyebrows above his eyeballs. If you didn't look carefully, it always seemed that his eyebrows were missing a piece.
Jiang Yuan said with some pride, "This is a good mole. You are so smart because of it." He refused to listen to Jiang Jun and remove it. Instead, he told Jiang Jun that the reason why he was so good at studying was because he had this mole which meant he would have a son.
When Jiang Jun went to the United States for training, he looked at countless photos of people with moles in their eyebrows, and counted their occupations and families, trying to find obvious characteristics from the aggregated data to refute Jiang Yuan's statement.
Will the little Jiang Yuan in the photo be her father in the original time and space when he grows up?
Chen Yuefei's eyes widened. "Yes, right there, there's a mole, flesh-colored."
Jiang Jun couldn't contain his excitement and grabbed Chen Yuefei's wrist. "How old is he? Where did you find him?"
Chen Yuefei chuckled: "How is it? Is it your Jiang family?"
Jiang Jun was eager to know the answer and couldn't help shaking Chen Yuefei's wrist. "Tell me! Where is he from? What does he do?"
Chen Yuefei wanted to pull his hand back, but Jiang Jun held it tightly, so he had to use his other hand to pull Jiang Jun's wrist, trying to break free from Jiang Jun's grip.
The two of them were so busy talking that Chen Yuefei sat with his back to the stairs. Jiang Jun was staring at Chen Yuefei and asking questions, and didn't notice Ye Qingyin walking down the stairs.
"What are you two doing?" Ye Qingyin looked at the two people's clasped hands in disbelief. "What do you two want to do here in the middle of the night?"
Jiang Jun was still in shock after learning the news about Jiang Yuan. He glanced at Ye Qingyin and followed her gaze down. Only then did he realize what was happening and let go of his hand. He quickly put his hand behind his back as if he was burned by fire.
Ye Qingyin's eyes were filled with anger: "Xiao Jiang, tell me what's going on?"
Jiang Jun looked at Chen Yuefei helplessly, then looked at the photo on the table, raised his eyes and stared at Ye Qingyin, his whole body was dazed.
Chen Yuefei picked up the photo and showed it to his mother. "I came down to get some water, and Jiang Yun happened to be drinking water here too, so I sat down and talked to her and showed her the photo."
Ye Qingyin glanced at the photo and didn't believe her son's explanation: "Do you have to pull and tug to look at a photo?"
Chen Yuefei scratched his ears. This misunderstanding was really hard to explain for a while. "Mom, things are not what you think! Mom, would you like some water? Or should I pour you some water and take it upstairs to take your medicine?"
"Don't interrupt!" Ye Qingyin stared at Jiang Jun, gritting her teeth and saying, "Xiao Jiang, you haven't answered my question yet!"
It seems like he won't let you leave until you explain everything clearly.
Jiang Jun helplessly endured Ye Qingyin's anger: "Aunt Ye, I may have drunk too much today. I don't know what I said or did today."
