Chapter 36 Making Dumplings

After chatting for a while, at noon, Lin Ling was asked to stay and have lunch by Gu Xi. In fact, it was Wang Xu who said he wanted to make dumplings, so Gu Xi asked Lin Ling to stay and do the hard labor.

The meat was seasoned and marinated last night. Wang Xu added leeks to half of it and cabbage to the other half. Gu Xi remembered that she had eaten pickled cabbage and meat in the future and it was also very delicious: "Wang Xu, do you have pickled cabbage and meat?"

Wang Xu looked up and asked, "Do you like pickled pork?"

Gu Xi shook her head: "In Shanghai, people eat more wontons and less dumplings, but I've eaten pickled cabbage and pork once before, and I kind of want to eat it. Just a little is enough. I just want to try the flavor, and I can't eat much."

Wang Xu prepared the two existing meat fillings and brought them to the table in the yard: "I'll go ask Grandma Yin if she has any pickled vegetables. The elderly prefer pickled vegetables."

Lin Ling quickly shouted, "Ah, Aunt Chen seems to have some at home. I ate some yesterday. I'll go back and get some."

Wang Xu said to Gu Xi, "Wipe the table clean."

Gu Xi took out the dough and rolling pin from the kitchen. The table had already been wiped.

Wang Xu took out the dough and kneaded it several times on the table until it became smooth and delicate. He then cut it into even small pieces and used a rolling pin to roll them into even dumpling wrappers: "Can you make dumplings?"

Gu Xi shook her head, her eyes clear: "No, we buy ready-made food at home."

Wang Xu taught seriously: "Let me teach you, first put the dumpling skin on your hand, then put the meat filling in the middle, fold the two sides in half and press with your fingers, and it's done."

Gu Xi saw Wang Xu's smooth movements, which seemed very simple, and the dumplings he made were plump and crisp: "It seems quite simple, I'll try it."

Gu Xi copied exactly what was being done, but the reality was that the value of this sentence was still rising. The dumplings Gu Xi made were ugly, with the meat filling showing through.

Wang Xu rubbed his brows, a little bit reluctant to look directly at it, and taught again: "There is a stupid way, first fold it in half and pinch the edges, then pinch the edges with your tiger's mouth, don't pinch the meat filling, with your hands hollow, use the tiger's mouth on both sides to pinch, it's simple, right?"

Gu Xi looked at it carefully, tried it again, and couldn't help but grinning, "Look, it worked. Oh, my face, do you think it's okay?"

Wang Xu looked at her dough, which was still a little ugly, but had made great progress. At least it could be cooked and eaten. "Well, you have a good learning ability. If you wrap more, it will be prettier."

Gu Xi was recognized and was full of energy, but her movements were slow. Wang Xu rolled out a table full of dumpling wrappers, but she had only made a few. She didn't want to undermine her self-confidence, so she just followed her.

Lin Ling quickly brought the pickled cabbage, and Wang Xu took it and mixed it with the pickled cabbage and meat stuffing. Lin Ling sat down and asked, "What is this you made? Is it edible?"

Gu Xi immediately retorted: "Do you know how to make dumplings? Wang Xu taught me this way. Look, this is what he made. It's the same length as mine. He also said that I learn quickly."

Lin Ling saw that Wang Xu's dumplings were obviously plump and beautiful, and Gu Xi's dumplings were hard to describe. She didn't have the heart to criticize him, "Well, it's the first time, and it's already very good."

The dumplings that Lin Ling made were pleated, and each pleat was very neat. Gu Xi couldn't help but learn it again, but finally felt that Wang Xu's method was simpler.

The three of them were busy making dumplings. They filled up the three bamboo graters at home, but there were still a lot left. "Lin Ling, does Aunt Chen have a grater at home? Go get it and take some back. We have no place to put it."

Lin Ling thought for a moment and said, "Okay."

When Lin Ling went back to get the comb, Wang Xu went to the kitchen to cook dumplings. Lin Ling came back only after the dumplings were cooked.

She did not come back empty-handed, but brought a plate of small round cakes: "Gu Xi, these are small sugar cakes made by Grandma Chen. She made a lot of them this morning, with sesame and sugar fillings. I just knew you wanted to make dumplings, so I fried some sugar cakes for you. Eat them while they are hot, they are delicious. I ate 5 of them this morning."

Gu Xi quickly washed her hands, picked up a candy cookie, and put it down again: "Oh, it's so hot."

Lin Ling couldn't help laughing at her greedy look: "I told you it was freshly fried and I brought it here."

Gu Xi couldn't help but pick it up again, blew on it, took a small bite, and the sesame candy filling inside flowed out: "Wow, it's runny, delicious."

Lin Ling was very proud: "How is it? You haven't eaten it before."

Gu Xi snorted: "I have dumplings, leeks, cabbage, and sauerkraut."

Wang Xu also stewed the remaining sauerkraut and pork belly together, and added some vermicelli and tofu.

Gu Xi was very proud: "See? Sour cabbage stewed with pork belly and tofu vermicelli."

Lin Ling also snorted: "Aunt Chen can do it too."

Wang Xu was really impressed by these two people: "Let's eat. The dumplings won't taste good if they are cold."

Gu Xi saw three plates full of dumplings and her eyes widened: "There are so many, how can we finish them all?"

Lin Ling took a look and said, "Not bad, I can eat 25."

Gu Xi. . .

Gu Xi ate a dumpling and said, "It's delicious. The dipping sauce is also delicious. Wang Xu, you are amazing."

Wang Xu: "Don't you only eat cabbage and tofu?"

Gu Xi pretended not to hear: "It's delicious, your cooking is so delicious, it's okay if I recover slowly."

Lin Ling ate while observing the two people. She always felt that the atmosphere between them was a bit ambiguous, but she had no evidence.

Gu Xi ate 15 dumplings and a bowl of pickled cabbage vermicelli tofu. She was so full that she couldn't eat anymore. "I can't eat anymore. I feel so full. I feel like I've been here for three days and my stomach is so full."

Lin Ling was still stuffing dumplings into her mouth: "It's really delicious. Now I declare that Wang Xu's cooking skills are on par with Aunt Chen. Others who go to the countryside will definitely not be as happy as us."

Gu Xi saw that she had already eaten a plate of dumplings: "It seems that you have broken the record, more than 25."

Wang Xu took a look and said, "There are 30 on a plate. I put 10 of each flavor."

Gu Xi gave Lin Ling a thumbs up: "A heroine."

Gu Xi looked at the remaining dumpling wrappers and said, "Let's wrap them all and keep some for today and tomorrow. The rest can be given away. They won't last long in the hot weather. Give some to Yin Jie, Wan Xi, the village chief and others. It's a courtesy."

Wang Xu had no objection: "It's up to you."

After dinner, the three of them digested the food by making dumplings. After making dumplings for a long time, the village chief's voice rang out at the door: "Is Gu Zhiqing here?"

Gu Xi hurried over to open the door: "Uncle Xu, you are here, come in and sit down."

Xu Zhengrong saw them making dumplings and said, "I won't come in to disturb you. Here are the letters of guarantee and money from these people yesterday, a total of 1,600 yuan. Please click on them."

Gu Xi looked at the two hundred yuan in each guarantee letter, a total of one thousand six hundred yuan, and said, "Thank you, uncle. We made dumplings. It would be too conspicuous to give them to you now. We will send them to you later."

Although Xu Zhengrong was the village chief, he could only eat dumplings during festivals, or when Wang Xu went to the back mountain to hunt wild boars and was given a share of the food, he could only make dumplings: "Gu Xi, thank you, uncle will leave first."
