Chapter 108 Gift

The two hung up the phone hastily after exchanging only a few words. Before the call ended, Wen Ruan could faintly hear someone calling Song Yan's name through the receiver.

Wen Ruan didn't even have time to ask him when he would be back before Song Yan told her to remember to pick up the letter, and then the call was disconnected.

She looked bewildered, unsure what letter she was going to retrieve. Could it be a letter from Song Yan? Wen Ruan was completely confused.

The next day was Saturday. After visiting both sets of parents, Wen Ruan thought it would be better to go back to school early so she could be with her roommates than to be alone at home with nothing to do.

So she packed her things to go back to school. When she passed the post office, Wen Ruan suddenly remembered what Song Yan had said on the phone the night before, and walked toward the post office staff.

"Hello, do you have any letters from Wen Ruan?" Wen Ruan asked.

After checking the list in his hand, the post office staff replied, "Yes, there is a letter from Shenzhen and a package."

After asking Wen Ruan to wait a moment, the staff took out the letters and items. After verifying Wen Ruan's identification, she received the items.

Wen Ruan glanced at the envelope and saw that the sender was indeed Song Yan. She then looked at the small package in her hand, unable to tell what it contained. She simply reached out and stuffed the letter and package into the backpack she had sewn herself, intending to open it slowly when she returned to her dormitory.

Wen Ruan returned to the dormitory soon. They had probably just finished lunch and were all resting. Everyone was there. Dong Ya hadn't gone home because she hadn't been in a good mood lately, afraid that Dong Shuangqun would notice something and worry about her.

"Ruan Ruan, why are you back so early this week?" Song Ge asked with some surprise.

“Song Yan is away on a business trip, and I’m all alone at home with nothing to do. I’m thinking of coming back soon so we can all be together.”

"Tsk tsk tsk, so it's because your Song Yan isn't home that you remembered us..." Wu Wenqian teased.

After a few playful moments, Wen Ruan suddenly remembered that she hadn't opened the letter Song Yan had given her. Since it was inconvenient to make or receive phone calls at school, Wen Ruan had never made or received a phone call there. Perhaps for this reason, Song Yan had chosen to write a letter.

Wen Ruan first unpacked the package, inside which was a beautifully packaged box with French writing on it.

When her roommates saw it, they all gathered around and asked Wen Ruan what it was. Wen Ruan replied that it must be chocolate.

Zhao Xiaoyan looked puzzled; she had never seen chocolate before, as it was dark and unappealing.

Song Ge was quite envious. "Did your Song Yan send this to you from his business trip? What country is this chocolate from? It looks really good."

After opening the package and distributing it to everyone, Wen Ruan replied, "Judging from the packaging, the country of origin should be France. He was on a business trip in Shenzhen recently, so he probably bought it from a remittance store there."

Zhou Wen was somewhat surprised and asked, "Ruan Ruan, do you understand the writing on it?"

"Yes, I understand some. It's in French." Wen Ruan nodded calmly. She was fluent in French, German, and English.

The entire dormitory instantly admired Wen Ruan even more. You see, Zhou Wen, Wu Wenqian, and Song Ge were all students in the foreign language department. Their English was probably not very good when they were in school, probably due to the level of their teachers and the background at the time.

Only Song Ge came from Shanghai and was relatively better at English, but only to a limited extent. Not to mention the three of them, even the entire freshman class of the foreign language department was feeling overwhelmed by their major courses.

However, in addition to learning English well, their counselor recently sent out a notice that they also need to take elective courses in a second foreign language. They are still discussing and deliberating among themselves, unsure of which ones to choose.

Today I found out that my roommate is not only a "genius" but also a potential foreign language expert. After hearing that she is fluent in English, German, and French, I was even more excited and couldn't wait to get on her good side.

Song Ge went even further, shaking Wen Ruan's arm and saying, "Ruan Ruan, I want to learn French. Could you teach me when you have time? I'll cover your breakfast for the whole semester!"

Wen Ruan was both amused and exasperated, and readily agreed, telling them that they could ask her if they had any questions about these languages.

Coincidentally, Zhou Wen wanted to choose German as her second foreign language, while Song Ge and Wu Wenqian wanted to choose French. In Song Ge's words, "Ruan Ruan's tutoring class" was about to start in the dormitory.

After the group of roommates finally finished their playful antics and Wen Ruan finished washing up, she finally had time to sit on her bed and open the letter that Song Yan had sent her.

In addition to describing his life in Shenzhen, the letter also mentioned that his return date was uncertain and he didn't know when he would be able to complete the tasks assigned to him and return to Beijing. He simply told Wen Ruan to take good care of herself.

He also told her that it was inconvenient for her to make phone calls, but that Wen Ruan could write to him. He left an address below, and Wen Ruan silently memorized the address, preparing to write the letter and mail it out first thing the next morning.

At the end of the letter, Song Yan wrote: "I don't want to see the same moon as you anymore, I just want to see the moon with you."

Upon seeing this, Wen Ruan's face flushed crimson, and she was so shy that she would have rolled around on her bed if she weren't in the dormitory.

To my utter surprise, Song Yan, with his somewhat old-fashioned personality, could actually write such words in a letter!

As night fell, Wen Ruan slowly drifted off to sleep, clutching the letter sent by Song Yan, while back in Shenzhen, Song Yan was still engrossed in his work.

Only when he could catch his breath and relax for a moment did he begin to miss his wife and family who were far away in Beijing.

......

The midterm exam results came out quickly, and on Monday noon, the counselors of each department convened a class meeting for their respective freshmen.
