Chapter 176 Alma Mater

After seeing Song Yan off, Wen Ruan returned home and began organizing various documents. She had only recently returned to China and many procedures had not yet been completed. Since it was Monday tomorrow, Wen Ruan planned to visit Professor Lin Qingyou at Tsinghua University and also make an appointment with Professor Wang Qing.

After Wen Ruan reported to various departments and completed all the formalities, it was almost afternoon. She passed by a small vendor, bought a few steamed buns, ate a few bites, and then went to Tsinghua University.

As Wen Ruan walked through the campus, she felt as if she were in a dream, and couldn't help but recall how she first came here.

Not much time has passed, only a little over three years in total. Some of my classmates who entered the university at the same time haven't even finished their undergraduate studies yet, but psychologically it feels like a long time has gone by.

In just three short years, her life has undergone tremendous changes. Wen Ruan is very grateful for her past self and her past experiences, including her alma mater that held all her joys and sorrows at that time.

As Wen Ruan strolled through the campus, looking at the groups of younger students who were perhaps even younger than herself, she couldn't help but feel a surge of emotions and memories.

Wen Ruan feels an immense sense of warmth and familiarity every time she returns to her alma mater, a place that holds countless beautiful memories and dreams for her. She still remembers the moment she first stepped into her alma mater, her heart filled with anticipation for the future and a thirst for knowledge...

"Professor Lin." Wen Ruan walked to Professor Lin Qingyou's office. The office door was not closed, so she gently knocked on the door and called out softly.

Lin Qingyou heard a voice calling him, which sounded very familiar. He looked up at Wen Ruan standing outside the door.

Perhaps due to his age, Lin Qingyou couldn't see the person outside the door clearly. He squinted and seemed to recognize who it was, but he wasn't sure. He took out his glasses, which he had used for many years, from the drawer, wiped the lenses, put them on, and looked up at the door to confirm.

Wen Ruan watched Lin Qingyou's actions without saying a word, quietly waiting for him to complete his series of actions.

"Wen Ruan?!" Lin Qingyou asked in disbelief.

Wen Ruan smiled and nodded in response, "It's me, Professor Lin, I'm back."

Lin Qingyou was pleasantly surprised and asked in a low voice, "Come in quickly, why are you back so early?"

It seems that none of the students who went with Wen Ruan have returned yet. According to the British academic system, a postgraduate course takes at least two years to complete.

Lin Qingyou calculated the time and realized that Wen Ruan had only been gone for a year and a half.

"Graduated?" Lin Qingyou asked.

"Yes, Professor Lin, I have graduated."

"I just got back a few days ago and was thinking of coming to see you. I also wanted to ask you about my academic credentials and the subsequent procedures..." Wen Ruan explained her purpose in detail and gave Lin Qingyou a warm greeting.

She then took out a souvenir she had prepared in advance from her bag. It wasn't anything particularly valuable, as she was afraid that Lin Qingyou wouldn't accept it if it were too expensive. It was just a handwritten notebook by Lawrence, a world-leading scholar in their field of research, that she had found by chance in a secondhand bookstore while shopping in England. Wen Ruan treasured it as if she had found a priceless treasure.

It just so happens that Lin Qingyou's research direction overlaps somewhat with Lawrence's, and Wen Ruan feels that Lin Qingyou will be very pleasantly surprised to receive this gift.

Just as Wen Ruan had expected.

Lin Qingyou was initially hesitant when Wen Ruan took out gifts, but Wen Ruan didn't say anything, just told him to accept them and that he would understand once he opened them.

Lin Qingyou was a little confused, but he still opened it as instructed...

After Wen Ruan found Lawrence's handwritten notes, she even found a professional restorer to carefully repair them. After receiving them, she wrapped them in a layer of kraft paper and never opened them again, just to bring them back to Lin Qingyou.

Wen Ruan had a feeling that he would really like it.

really?

"Wen Ruan? Where did you get this handwritten note? It's an original by Lawrence!" Lin Qingyou asked excitedly.

Wen Ruan smiled and said, "When I was resting in England, I was strolling around the streets and accidentally found a used bookstore. I found it there."

Lin Qingyou felt a wave of envy after hearing this, and sighed inwardly. He thought to himself that his student was indeed quite lucky, as she was able to encounter such a small chance.

Afterwards, Lin Qingyou felt a little embarrassed. Wen Ruan had truly touched his heart with this gift. Although his reason told him that he shouldn't accept it, he couldn't control himself. In addition, he had just been so firm in telling her to take it back. Would it be inappropriate to reach out and accept it now?

Thinking about this, Lin Qingyou hesitated.

Wen Ruan chuckled inwardly, but remained outwardly composed: "I thought you would like it, so I carried it all the way back specially for you. Who knew that was just my guess?"

"Alright, if you really don't like it, I'll take it back. I believe Teacher Wang Qing might like it." Wen Ruan pretended to be regretful as she used kraft paper to restore the handwritten notes to their original state.

"Oh dear, you silly child! I was just joking, and you actually took it seriously!"

“Why would you give such a good thing to ‘Old-fashioned Wang’? He won’t appreciate it, it’s a complete waste! This thing should stay with me.”

"You bunch of young people, you can't keep things to yourself." After saying that, Lin Qingyou hurriedly reached out and snatched the notebook, turned around and put it in his drawer. In front of Wen Ruan, he even found a lock and locked it.
