Chapter 182 Jiang Yan Arrives in Beijing

Song Heng, listening on the other end of the phone, felt a surge of emotion and was deeply grateful to Wen Ruan: "Ruan Ruan, thank you," Song Heng said earnestly.

"It's alright, brother. This is what we should do. We all hope you can be happy," Wen Ruan replied gently.

About a week after the photo was sent, Song Heng received it and immediately called Wen Ruan. His first thought upon seeing the photo was, "Yan Yan is back." A sense of familiarity washed over him, and looking at the photo, Song Heng felt no sense of unfamiliarity.

She was absolutely certain that she was Yan Yan!

Time flew by amidst everyone's anticipation. When Wen Ruan wrote to Jiang Yan, she included her home phone number so that Jiang Yan could call her whenever she came to the mainland.

One Friday, Song Yan had just returned from Shanxian County. The two were too lazy to cook and decided to find a place to eat out. Just as they put on their coats and were about to leave, the phone suddenly rang.

Wen Ruan was a little puzzled, wondering who was calling home at this time. After exchanging a glance with Song Yan, Song Yan stopped what he was doing, went to the living room, and picked up the phone.

"Hello, this is Wen Ruan and Song Yan's home." Song Yan answered the phone and introduced himself.

A gentle voice came from the phone: "Hello, excuse me, this is Jiang Yan, Wen Ruan's friend. Is she home at this time?" Jiang Yan heard a male voice on the other end of the line, guessing it was Wen Ruan's husband, so he introduced himself.

Song Yan stared blankly at the phone for a moment, then looked at Wen Ruan. When he returned earlier, Wen Ruan had told him about everything that had happened at home, especially her invitation to Jiang Yan to come to Beijing. Song Yan hoped that everyone's previous guesses were correct.

Regardless of the relationship between Jiang Yan and Song Heng, as long as it's confirmed that Yan Yan is still alive, that's good.

Song Yan didn't want his older brother to always carry this painful burden.

Especially when Wen Ruan recalled that in the original book, Song Heng lived alone until old age, spending the rest of his life guarding the few memories he had with Yan Yan. When Song Yan thought of this, although he understood, he couldn't bear it and just wanted to help him as much as he could now.

"Who is it?" Wen Ruan asked quietly when she saw Song Yan looking a little dazed after picking up the phone.

"Ruan Ruan is here, please wait a moment, I'll let her answer the phone now." Song Yan responded to Wen Ruan first, then answered the person on the other end of the phone.

"Looking for me?" Wen Ruan was a little surprised. At this hour, she felt only her workplace would contact her. Could it be that they wanted her to come back to work overtime? Wen Ruan's working-class spirit was starting to awaken...

"Hmm, Jiang Yan." Song Yan could tell from Wen Ruan's expression that she was overthinking things again, so he quickly interrupted her.

"Jiangyan?!" Wen Ruan exclaimed excitedly, quickly taking the microphone from Song Yan's hand.

She introduced herself: "Dr. Jiang! I'm Wen Ruan!"

"Ruan Ruan, I came to the mainland a few days ago and just arrived in Beijing today. I was just wondering if you have time to meet up." Jiang Yan heard the excitement in Wen Ruan's voice and was also happy, so he extended an invitation to her.

ā€œI’m looking forward to your visit! Tomorrow and the day after are the weekend, so we can be together. Which hotel are you staying at? Can I come to see you tomorrow morning?ā€ Wen Ruan asked.

The two quickly finished their conversation on the phone and agreed that Wen Ruan would go to the State Guest Hotel where she was staying the next morning to find her.

After the call ended, Song Yan, who was also somewhat expectant, asked, "How did it go?"

"Yes, we've arranged to meet tomorrow. I'll subtly inquire about my brother's situation then, and see if there's a chance to talk to her about it, like whether she can meet him or something," Wen Ruan replied affirmatively.

Then, she barely had time to eat, and pulled Song Yan aside to discuss what kind of conversation she should make with Jiang Yan the next day.

The next day, Wen Ruan got up early, unlike her usual weekend habit of sleeping in. She didn't need Song Yan to wake her up; she got out of bed as soon as it was light.

Then he took out the notebook he had discussed with Song Yan the day before and began to study silently.

Song Yan felt a wave of helplessness. When he saw her suddenly pull out a notebook and write down her lines of dialogue and questions she needed to ask, Song Yan felt like his brain was about to atrophy...

Song Yan felt both helpless and somewhat cute about her, so he let her continue.

After everything was packed and their clothes were ready, the two of them went out.

Song Yan would escort Wen Ruan to the State Guest House, and then he would go to the Academy of Agricultural Sciences to take care of some work-related matters.

The two waved goodbye at the door.

Wen Ruan watched Song Yan walk away before turning around to go upstairs to the State Guest House.

Just as she was about to enter, she heard someone calling her from upstairs.

Wen Ruan looked up and saw Jiang Yan waving to her from upstairs. When he saw Wen Ruan looking over, he started waving at her continuously.

"Is that your husband?" Jiang Yan leaned on the second-floor railing, looking down at Wen Ruan standing below.

Wen Ruan felt as if she had been hit by a beauty filter.

Having been here for so long, aside from sometimes feeling this way when I see Song Yan, I never expected to experience it again with Jiang Yan.

Jiang Yan was wearing a white dress today, her hair casually draped over her shoulders, swaying in the breeze in alluring curves. With her black hair and red lips, she looked every bit the Hong Kong-style beauty.

Jiang Yan's attire today was completely different from usual. Wen Ruan had only ever seen Jiang Yan wearing a white coat before, busy with work every day, and often not having time to take care of herself.

But now, Wen Ruan's eyes were filled with amazement. She had always known that Jiang Yan was not only good-looking but also had a great temperament. However, she never expected that she would be so captivating after dressing up.

Seeing Wen Ruan staring blankly at him from downstairs, Jiang Yan couldn't help but chuckle.

Wen Ruan was immediately captivated again: "My goodness, what a stunning beauty with Hong Kong style..."
