The two chatted for a long time, and Wen Ruan planned to take Jiang Yan to wander around the streets and alleys of Beijing in the afternoon.
Wen Ruan did not return home until after the two had finished their meal together in the evening.
As soon as Wen Ruan got home, she didn't even have time to take off her clothes before she hurriedly told Song Yan to call Song Heng.
She told Song Heng in detail about all the things that had happened in Jiangyan.
Upon receiving Wen Ruan's message, Song Heng immediately decided to apply for leave from his workplace so he could see Jiang Yan.
It wasn't that he wanted to be with her; he simply wanted to catch a glimpse of her from afar. As long as she was doing well, he would be at ease.
He could even refrain from going forward and disrupting the wonderful life she currently enjoys...
Song Heng silently made up his mind.
About five or six days later, Song Heng finally finished dealing with his work, applied for the leave he hadn't taken yet, and returned to Beijing.
The day Wen Ruan learned that Song Heng had returned, she picked up the phone and contacted Jiang Yan, wanting to invite her to go shopping on Saturday. She said she wanted to buy some summer clothes and asked Jiang Yan for her advice.
Jiang Yan readily accepted Wen Ruan's invitation and arranged to meet her at Wangfujing on Saturday morning.
Wen Ruan then informed Song Heng of the time and place of their meeting, so that he could appear at the right moment to meet Jiang Yan and decide whether or not to acknowledge her as his wife.
Wen Ruan didn't know what was going on. It was Jiang Yan and Song Heng who were about to meet, and although the people involved might not have been affected, she was extremely nervous.
On the day of the meeting, Wen Ruan arrived at the place where she and Jiang Yan had met very early, almost half an hour earlier than the scheduled time.
Then Wen Ruan began to look around, trying to find Song Heng and see if he had arrived early.
Sure enough, just as Wen Ruan looked in the easternmost direction, Song Heng was already standing there. Seeing Wen Ruan looking around, he knew she was probably looking for him, so he waved to her.
Not long after, Jiang Yan arrived at the place the two had agreed upon.
"Ruan Ruan, what time did you arrive? Why are you here so early?" Jiang Yan asked in surprise when he saw Wen Ruan already standing there, looking like she had been waiting for a while.
"I didn't wait long, and Song Yan wasn't home either. I wasn't really in the mood, so I figured I might as well come out earlier." Wen Ruan replied to Jiang Yan with a smile, but her eyes unconsciously drifted towards Song Heng, wondering whether he would show up or when.
“Indeed, my brother is busy going out to investigate every day and doesn’t have much time to take care of me. I just stay in the hotel all day and don’t have anything to do.”
"I was busy every day before, and now that I finally have some free time, I feel a little unaccustomed to it..." Jiang Yan sighed softly.
Wen Ruan also expressed her agreement with a look of admiration.
The two quickly went to the mall hand in hand to go shopping.
The shopping mall they were going to was one that Wen Ruan had never been to before. It was a newly opened private mall, unlike the state-owned stores and department stores of the past.
As Wen Ruan entered the mall, a sense of familiarity washed over her. The various displays and arrangements were quite nice. If Wen Ruan hadn't been certain of her current time and place, she would have doubted whether she had returned to the modern world.
"Wow, the shopping malls in the mainland are pretty good too!" Jiang Yan exclaimed.
The mall has four floors. The two women browsed it from top to bottom, accumulating a huge amount of spoils. Wen Ruan felt her calves were about to cramp.
As the two of them walked out of the mall carrying their spoils, preparing to sit and rest at the teahouse across the street and have a couple of cups of tea, Wen Ruan suddenly remembered: "Where did Song Heng go? Is he still not showing his face? Or is he simply keeping an eye on Jiang Yan from the shadows, as he said before, without disturbing her life?" Wen Ruan felt a wave of worry.
She looked up and around, preparing to search for Song Heng.
Soon, Wen Ruan's eyes locked onto him, but he didn't look in the direction of the two of them. Instead, he was carrying a wheelchair in one hand and an old lady on his back while crossing the road, with an older woman following beside him.
It seems there was something wrong with the old lady's wheelchair, and Song Heng went to help her...
Wen Ruan felt a surge of anxiety, because Jiang Yan had just said that she and her older brother might be going to Shanghai next week, and today might be the last chance for Song Heng to meet Jiang Yan.
"Ruan Ruan, what are you looking at?" Jiang Yan had just been talking to Wen Ruan, but after waiting for a while without hearing a response from her, he noticed that she was looking in one direction and couldn't help but feel curious, so he followed Wen Ruan's gaze.
Jiang Yan felt as if his heart had been struck hard, and his body trembled violently.
“I think your previous suggestion was correct,” Jiang Yan murmured.
Wen Ruan seemed to hear something she said, but she was looking at Song Heng the whole time and didn't hear clearly, so she asked in confusion, "What did you say?"
“I said, maybe I really should find a partner.” Jiang Yan smiled as he looked ahead.
Wen Ruan was completely baffled.
Soon, Song Heng put the mother and daughter into the car and looked in the direction of Wen Ruan and the others.
Then Song Heng strode towards the two of them.
Wen Ruan didn't notice Song Heng's actions, but she felt that Jiang Yan next to her seemed a little excited.
When Song Heng walked up to her, Wen Ruan realized that he was about to greet him and introduce him to Jiang Yan.
Jiang Yan stepped forward and said, "Hello, sir, my name is Jiang Yan. May I ask if we can get to know each other?"
