Chapter 2 Agreement

Our previous engagement is null and void!

The little girl's long eyelashes were covered with tears, making her look as beautiful as a lotus emerging from the water. With each blink, large tears rolled down her pale cheeks.

Wen Ruan couldn't help but praise her own acting skills, inwardly shouting, "I am an Oscar-winning actress!"

Then continue to focus on your performance.

Song Yan hurriedly wiped away Wen Ruan's tears. He had never seen Wen Ruan so heartbroken. As the only daughter in the family, she had been pampered since childhood.

Because of the relationship between the two families, her own parents doted on her, especially Song's mother, who was obsessed with her daughter and spoiled Wen Ruan to the core. Both sets of parents could be said to grant Wen Ruan's every wish, and Song Yan and her elder brother Song Heng had also protected her since she was a child, unable to bear seeing her suffer the slightest grievance.

Now that Wen Ruan was crying like this, he suddenly panicked.

"Ruan Ruan, don't cry. I don't dislike you, nor do I think you're a troublemaker. In my heart, you've always been a little sister who needs my protection."

“I don’t think you’re bad. I just think that an arranged marriage is unfair to you. You’re still young and may not be able to distinguish between different feelings. I hope you have the right to choose your own happiness. You can’t limit your future choices of happiness to me just because of an arranged marriage.”

To outsiders, Song Yan is a serious and cold person, always exuding a ruthless aura. Other girls are always first attracted by his face, followed by fear. Over the years, only his little sister Wen Ruan, who follows behind him, has never been afraid of his coldness.

"Brother Song Yan, but your happiness is also important! I know you only have sisterly feelings for me. Don't force yourself. Seeing you like this makes me very sad too!" Wen Ruan said stubbornly.

Wen Ruan's expression was firm. "Let's go back together and tell our families about breaking off the engagement!"

Wen Ruan continued her performance. In her heart, she silently cried out, "Say yes! Say yes!"

Song Yan was very surprised and touched, as if the little girl he had pampered since childhood had grown up overnight. However, Song Yan's mindset had changed a bit today.

When they were young, the brothers had also dreamed about their future partners, but Song Yan didn't know what kind of person he wanted to find. He only knew that Wen Ruan was an arranged marriage by his family, his future wife, and his responsibility.

But Song Yan couldn't imagine if his wife were anyone else. Perhaps deep down, she would resist a stranger intruding on his territory.

Song Yan's heart stirred slightly, and he said, "If you feel that you really like me, and that I am indeed worthy of your trust, then let's get married. I will treat you well for the rest of my life and will never let you suffer any grievances."

Huh? Wen Ruan was a little stunned. The way this story was unfolding was not right. What was wrong with the male lead? Shouldn't he be very moved by having such an understanding younger sister, so they broke off the engagement, but to compensate me, his wonderful younger sister, he would treat me even better in the future?

Seeing Wen Ruan staring blankly after hearing his words, lost in her own world with a charmingly innocent expression and innocent eyes, Song Yan affectionately patted Wen Ruan's head.

"What's wrong, Ruan Ruan? Why are you so excited that you're starting to daydream? It's almost time. Let's go back and see how things are going with our family."

Wen Ruan felt speechless and silently complained in her heart, "Do I look happy?"

"Sweetie, let's go home. Let's see when our wedding is set." He patted Wen Ruan's head and led her towards the steel factory compound.

Wen Ruan felt utterly powerless and hopeless about the future. She followed Song Yan dejectedly.

Song Yan slowed his pace, his eyes secretly watching the little tail behind him, a slight smile playing on his lips.

I walked to the entrance of the steel factory's residential compound.

"Brother Song Yan, are you really not going to reconsider?" Wen Ruan asked hesitantly.

Song Yan looked at Wen Ruan.

“I’m not sure if your final agreement to marry me was your true feeling, so I have a suggestion,” Wen Ruan said, seeing that Song Yan didn’t react.

Song Yan was somewhat surprised and nodded, looking at Wen Ruan: "If we get married, you'll have a chance to regret it later. If Song Yan likes someone else in the future, let's get a divorce! I don't want Song Yan to lose his right to choose his own happiness because of an arranged marriage! I'm willing to let you end it whenever you want." Wen Ruan looked determined.

Song Yan was stunned for a moment, looked at Wen Ruan strangely for a few moments, and said, "Ruan Ruan, don't overthink it. Now that we're married, I will take responsibility for the marriage and treat you well!"

The two of them then entered the Wen family home.

"Ruan Ruan is back!" Song's mother said.

Wen Ruan quickly walked over and politely greeted, "Aunt Ye!"

"Oh, sweetie, how did your chat with your brother Song Yan go? We've almost finished discussing things. Once Song Yan has a break, we'll take you to the department store to see what else we need to buy for the house. We need to get started right away," Song's mother said with a kind smile.

“We’ve tentatively set the wedding date for the tenth day of the eighth lunar month this year, which is still more than a month away. Both families have plenty of time to prepare. Do you have any objections?” Mr. Song chimed in from the side.

Wen Ruan felt a little embarrassed. In her previous life, she was only twenty-three years old and had never experienced such a scene before. She silently lowered her head and did not say anything.

Seeing this, Song Yan, who was standing nearby, said gently, "You and Uncle Wen can decide on this matter. We have no objections."
