Chapter 6 Movies

Song Yan's cheeks flushed red in an instant, then he accidentally choked and started coughing violently.

Wen Ruan was startled and quickly handed him water to help him urinate.

"I know you're my future wife," Song Yan replied gently, looking into Wen Ruan's eyes. He then quickly lowered his head and continued cleaning up the remaining food.

Wen Ruan looked puzzled. What did this mean? What did it have to do with whether she was his future wife? Just as Wen Ruan was about to ask, she suddenly realized.

He meant, "I'm his future wife, so he doesn't mind me! He's willing to eat my leftovers." Good heavens, what a blunt man! Wen Ruan thought to herself.

After lunch, with some time to spare before the movie started, the two decided to take a walk to the cinema.

Before starting, Song Yan went to queue up and bought two bottles of chilled soda and some sunflower seeds.

The movie started soon; it was "The Dawns Here Are Quiet," a Soviet film.

The story tells of an officer who led five young women on a reconnaissance mission against enemy forces. The team members bravely sacrificed their lives, and one of the seriously wounded women, unwilling to burden her officer, entrusted her son to him before taking her own life. The officer annihilated the enemy camp, gloriously completing his mission and being rescued. Years later, he brought his son, now an officer, to the grove where his mother had died, expressing his deepest respect for all the female soldiers.

In the first half of the film, Wen Ruan felt very relaxed and was attracted by the energetic and witty female soldiers, whose youthful vitality was vividly portrayed.

But in the latter half of the film, their lives are taken away, and they fall one by one, with something involuntarily falling from their eyelids and wetly sliding down their faces.

A white handkerchief appeared before her. Wen Ruan looked in the direction of the handkerchief and saw Song Yan.

He handed the handkerchief to Wen Ruan, who didn't react at first and was still staring at him blankly, not yet snapping out of her movie.

Song Yan sighed softly and gently wiped away the tears on her face with a handkerchief.

He looked at her tearful eyes and felt a sharp pain in his heart. He gently stroked her hair, pursed his lips tightly, and whispered, "Ruan Ruan, don't cry, it hurts me."

Wen Ruan was a little dazed. In a daze, she saw Song Yan seem to say something to her, but the dark environment of the movie theater and the sound effects of the film made it impossible for her to hear clearly.

"What?" Wen Ruan asked in confusion.

"Let's watch a movie." Song Yan placed the peeled melon seeds in Wen Ruan's hand.

"Thank you." Wen Ruan then continued to focus intently on the film.

As she stepped out of the movie theater, the light suddenly became bright. For a moment, Wen Ruan's eyes, which had just been wet with tears, were not used to the glaring light, and she was about to reach out to shield them from the light.

"Ruan Ruan, close your eyes." A pair of large hands suddenly covered her eyes. Song Yan seemed to be very close, his warm breath falling on her skin.

Once Wen Ruan adjusted to the light, Song Yan moved his hand away.

Wen Ruan opened her eyes. Song Yan's features were very close to hers. His face was strong and smooth. She felt that his gaze was like a tangible net, covering her completely.

Wen Ruan's body stiffened, her fists clenched loosely, and she held her breath, not daring to even breathe.

For some reason, Song Yan lowered his eyes and chuckled softly before stepping back.

"Ahhh, was he flirting with me just now? Was he doing it on purpose? He definitely did it on purpose! Oh my god, help! Such a handsome man, so charming, how can anyone resist him!"

"Waaaah, Song Yan is such a scumbag! He clearly said he would treat me like a little sister, but he still deliberately treated me like this. It's really easy to cause misunderstandings. What a scumbag, Song Yan!" Wen Ruan roared in her heart.

She silently resolved in her heart that she absolutely could not spend any more time alone with Song Yan recently, because if things continued like this, Wen Ruan felt that she might really lose control.

While Wen Ruan was lost in thought, Song Yan had already brought the bicycle over. After she was seated and held on tight, he rode it towards the steel factory's residential compound.

They arrived quickly, and Wen Ruan hurriedly said goodbye to Song Yan, trying to run home, when he suddenly grabbed her arm.

"Ruan Ruan, wait a minute."

"The factory has been very busy lately. The R&D department hasn't had any new technological breakthroughs for a long time. The factory manager asked everyone to come up with ideas, so I'll probably be working overtime to write proposals recently," Song Yan said.

"Okay, you're busy," Wen Ruan replied obediently.

Song Yan felt a moment of frustration, but quickly promised, "I will come to see you whenever I have time."

Wen Ruan nodded obediently, then thought for a moment and said, "No matter how busy Song Yan is with work, he must take care of his health."

Song Yan's expression seemed to relax instantly, and he couldn't help but smile.

Song Yan didn't leave until he saw Wen Ruan walk into the house.

I haven't seen Song Yan for the past week. I heard from Wen's father that he recently proposed a plan that has caused a huge uproar in the factory.

The steel plant is particularly sensitive during this period because the current plant manager, Mr. Zhou, will retire at the end of the year, and the relationship between the two deputy plant managers is also very sensitive.

In particular, Deputy Factory Director Guo Shengcai, whom Song Yangang had tried to win over when he first came to the factory, but failed. Recently, Song Yangang has been intentionally or unintentionally making things difficult for Guo Shengcai.

But when Wen's father said these things at home, his words revealed his satisfaction with Song Yan.

Wen Ruan remained silent. After all, he was the male lead; his abilities were beyond question.

During this period, Wen Ruan had almost adapted to life in the 1970s, but she was still somewhat anxious.

Perhaps it was a characteristic of the times, but everyone admired labor as the most glorious thing, and everyone in the family had their own career. Wen's father was doing very well as the director of the steel factory. Although he didn't say it, Wen Ruan had heard some rumors about it recently because he went out every day or strolled around the compound.

Wen's father was a strong candidate to be promoted to deputy factory director.

Needless to say, Wen's mother, the women's director of the street office, is extremely busy every day.

But being the only one with nothing to do, I feel like I've been swept up in something without even realizing it, which is quite painful for a lazy person from the 21st century.

Wen's father had previously mentioned that he could get Wen a job as a temporary worker in the finance department of the steel plant. Although it was only a temporary job, given the current trend of many educated youth returning to the city, this job was definitely highly sought after.

But Wen Ruan was somewhat unwilling. Not only did she get a headache just looking at numbers, but more importantly, she wanted a job with relatively more flexible hours.

It was already August 1976, and there was still more than a year until the first batch of college entrance examinations. She was certain to take the exam, but as a poor student in her previous life, she needed more time to study, so time was especially important.

Suddenly, Wen Ruan had an idea!
