With only a few days left of their annual leave, the two of them had nothing to do at home that day and decided to go out for a stroll. As they passed the gate of the compound, they thought of going back to see Song's mother and the others.
The two had just entered when they ran into Song Heng, who was about to leave. After asking him a question, they learned that Song's mother had asked him to go buy groceries.
Seeing this, Song Yan told Wen Ruan and then planned to go with Song Heng.
Let Wen Ruan go in first.
"Ruan Ruan, you're back!" Song's mother greeted her happily.
"Yes, I'm back, Mom."
“Song Yan was with me. We just ran into my older brother when we came in. Song Yan and my older brother went to buy groceries together,” Wen Ruan replied.
"Tell me about your older brother, all he's good for is his height. If he were a child, I would have given him a good scolding."
“I stay at home every day, and except for occasionally meeting up with my former comrades, I don’t go out.”
"We arrange blind dates for him, but he won't go; he'll just say he has something to do."
"He has nothing to do all day but exercise."
"He's like a block of wood every day. Whenever the topic of finding him a partner comes up, he doesn't say a word, like he's mute!" Song's mother was a little angry and complained to Wen Ruan for a long time.
Wen Ruan didn't dare to say a word. Ever since Song Heng came back, the topic of urging him to get married and go on blind dates has never stopped. Song Heng is over thirty years old this year, which is indeed considered a late marriage compared to the current marriage age. No wonder Song's mother is anxious.
Wen Ruan remembered that Song Yan had told him before that Song Heng had a girl he liked.
Thinking that Song Heng doesn't seem to have any plans to find a partner or get married, and wondering if that girl has influenced him, I sighed inwardly.
Seeing that Song's mother was somewhat agitated, Wen Ruan could only try to calm her down...
"Hey girl, is this your photo?" Just as Wen Ruan was chatting with Song's mother, Aunt Li came out of the bathroom with a photo in her hand.
The photo was well preserved and even placed in a small pendant. Li Sao was washing clothes in the bathroom when she saw this thing on the sink and assumed it belonged to Song's mother and had been left on the sink.
Song's mother looked puzzled and reached out to take it, saying, "It's not mine. I don't have this. Let me see the photo."
Wen Ruan also craned her neck to look.
The photo looked quite old; both the pendant and the material used to store it were yellowed, and the pendant had some paint chipping and was mottled. It was clear that its owner had kept it for a long time and often took it out to admire and play with it.
The photo shows a young girl in military uniform, who looks to be around twenty years old. Her face is beaming with a joyful smile that is infectious.
The girl was very pretty, with long braids hanging down on both sides, the ends of her hair playfully dangling in the air, making her look very dashing.
However, Wen Ruan felt that the photo was strangely familiar, as if she had seen the person before. She searched her memory carefully, but couldn't remember where she was.
"Mom, do you know whose things these are?" Wen Ruan couldn't help but ask.
Song's mother was also baffled, as she did not recognize the girl in the photo and had never seen the pendant before.

Song's mother was still lost in thought, trying to give Song Heng advice on how to win over the girl he liked...
Wen Ruan stood awkwardly to the side, unsure of what to say.
Fortunately, before Wen Ruan could feel awkward for long, Song Heng and Song Yan returned from the market with their purchases.
Wen Ruan immediately looked at Song Yan with a pleading expression, while also glancing at Song Heng with some concern. The two of them were quite confused, wondering what had happened between them in such a short time.
"Mom, what's wrong?" Song Heng and Song Yan exchanged glances, and Song Yan asked his mother.
"Oh, come, come, eldest son, come and sit down." Song's mother waved to Song Heng warmly.
Song Heng was startled by his mother's actions and took a step back, not understanding what was going on. When she was unhappy, she would call him by his full name, "Wooden Head," but for some reason, when she was happy, she would start calling him "eldest son," "Little Heng"...
