Chapter 123 Internship

Wen Ruan and Dong Ya looked in the direction the gatekeeper was pointing and saw a figure flash by quickly, turn the corner, and leave.

Wen Ruan recognized the person as Chen Jianwei; she had just noticed that he was wearing the same khaki jacket.

She glanced quickly at Dong Ya, who remained silent, lost in thought, staring blankly in the direction Chen Jianwei had left...

Looking at the old man's serious expression, Wen Ruan was both amused and exasperated, as if he would rush at her if they said they didn't know the man or that he had ulterior motives.

Seeing that Dong Ya wasn't in the mood to talk, Wen Ruan quickly said, "Grandpa, it's alright. We know that man; he's our friend. Don't worry."

Only then did the old man feel relieved. He told the two that if they encountered any trouble, they could tell him immediately, showing a strong sense of justice.

The old man also mentioned Song Yan, asking Wen Ruan why he hadn't been to school lately.

Wen Ruan answered each question, and the two chatted casually for a few minutes before bidding farewell to the old man and heading towards their dormitory.

Dong Ya was preoccupied throughout the journey, and Wen Ruan didn't know where to begin in trying to comfort her. She could only remain silent and accompany her, hoping that Dong Ya could adjust her mindset.

Before she knew it, exam week arrived, and Wen Ruan was extremely busy. She felt like she was about to go crazy, constantly dazed and confused as she held those textbooks that were needed for the exams.

Fortunately, hard work pays off, and Wen Ruan completed all the exams smoothly.

Because of her special circumstances, the department specifically picked out her exam paper for grading. Normally, all grades should be issued at the beginning of the next semester, but Wen Ruan received her grades on the third day after completing all the exams.

When she heard her counselor finish tallying the scores, call her to the office, and tell her that her average score was over 90 and she had passed with all high marks, Wen Ruan finally relaxed.

Hard work really does pay off. Wen Ruan, who was a poor student in her past life, never expected that she could turn her life around and become a top student. She was filled with mixed feelings.

When the next semester starts, Wen Ruan will attend classes with the second-year students to complete the remaining courses. Her plan to complete her undergraduate studies in two years is about to be realized.

As Wen Ruan was about to leave the office, the counselor added, "Wen Ruan, don't rush off. Go see Professor Lin later; he needs to speak with you." He then patted her on the shoulder encouragingly.

Wen Ruan was a little confused, but seeing the counselor's smiling face, she knew it wasn't anything bad, and then she felt relieved.

"Come in." Wen Ruan had just reached the door, which was not closed, and was about to knock when Lin Qingyou noticed her.

Wen Ruan entered and greeted everyone politely.

Lin Qingyou smiled broadly and said, "Congratulations, Comrade Wen Ruan, on your excellent results in the final exams. Your grades are absolutely outstanding among previous years, which is very good."

Wen Ruan smiled modestly and frankly said that she still had a lot to work on and needed more guidance from her professors.

After making Lin Qingyou beam with joy and exchanging pleasantries, Lin Qingyou asked, "The holidays are almost here, do you have any plans for the break?"

Wen Ruan knew the important matter was about to begin, and after organizing her thoughts, she replied, "My initial plan is to continue studying and complete the entire second and third year curriculum next semester. I don't have any other plans..." Wen Ruan answered truthfully.

Lin Qingyou nodded in satisfaction: "Recently, all departments have been very busy and short-staffed. I have an internship position in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Are you interested?"

Wen Ruan's eyes lit up instantly. She was pleasantly surprised that Professor Lin had such a valuable spot and was going to give it to her.

"Can I really have this spot?" Wen Ruan asked incredulously, confirming again.

“Yes, of course. Considering all aspects, whether it’s professional knowledge, learning ability, or the added advantage of being proficient in three foreign languages, this spot is perfect for you,” Lin Qingyou replied affirmatively.

"Professor, don't worry, I will do my best and will never let you down!" Wen Ruan was very grateful for Lin Qingyou's recommendation and said that she would not let him down.

Lin Qingyou looked at Wen Ruan with eyes full of trust, a slight smile appearing from the corners of his mouth and eyes, his eyes full of satisfaction.

When Wen Ruan came out of the office, she felt relaxed all over. The anxiety she had been holding onto regarding her grades was gone, and she also got a great internship opportunity.

When they arrived at the dormitory, all the roommates were there. Wen Ruan asked, "Our holiday starts this afternoon. What are your plans? Are you going home?"

"Of course I will! My parents miss me terribly, and I miss them too. I'm going to the station to buy a train ticket for tomorrow morning right now. Don't miss me during summer vacation!" Song Ge said cheerfully, her words full of exaggeration.

“I’m not going back. There’s not much family there. I plan to stay at the tutoring center and work part-time. I want to save more money to bring my grandma over…” Zhao Xiaoyan added.

During the months she spent working part-time, everyone in the dorm felt that she had undergone a tremendous change. She was no longer as introverted as before, and sometimes she would even joke around with everyone. She exuded a confident aura.

Everyone said that Zhao Xiaoyan's decision to work part-time at the tutoring center was the right one, and they were happy for her change.

Wu Wenqian said she was going home too, not to mention Wen Ruan and Dong Ya, whose homes were nearby. Only Zhou Wen remained silent.

Everyone looked at her. Zhou Wen's face looked a little unnatural, and she looked at the others with a hint of embarrassment. After hesitating for a while, she quickly said, "I won't go back. My home is too far away. I'll stay in the dormitory."

Without giving anyone time to react, he suddenly stood up, grabbed the kettle, and went out.

Only Wen Ruan and the others remained, looking at each other in bewilderment...

Finally, Dong Ya stepped in to smooth things over: "Maybe something happened to my older sister at school, everyone please don't ask..."

Wen Ruan and her roommates packed up their things and cleaned the dormitory. She planned to finish packing today and take her things home tomorrow.

Last week, when Wen Ruan returned to the compound during her holiday, Song's mother learned that she had a holiday this week and asked if she needed to borrow a car to bring her things home. Fortunately, Wen Ruan refused quickly.

It was too ostentatious, and besides, we didn't have that much stuff. There was really no need to bother others. After much persuasion, she finally agreed.

Originally, Wen Ruan thought that since Song Yan wasn't home anyway, she could stay at the family compound or the main compound for a few more days during her vacation to spend time with both sets of parents. But to her surprise, Professor Lin recommended an internship to her.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is quite close to the courtyard house, only about a ten-minute walk away, but it's a bit far to go back to the Wen or Song family home, so we had to leave it at that.

With her internship officially starting next Monday, and knowing she had five days to make her own arrangements, Wen Ruan felt completely relaxed.
