Everyone reacted very quickly. In just ten minutes, everyone packed their things and boarded the bus together. Wen Ruan and Andy were among them.
Due to limited vehicles, there was only one light truck. The driver told Wen Ruan to sit in the front, while Andy could only sit in the truck bed with the soldiers.
The temporary rescue hospital was not far from the camp where Wen Ruan and her team were located, at most only ten kilometers away. However, due to the extremely poor road conditions, the vehicle had to stop and start frequently, and with the road clearing work, it took more than two hours to arrive.
When Wen Ruan and her group arrived at their destination, Wen Ruan could hardly believe it. This place was a hospital, and its exterior was very simple. There were circles of people surrounding the central tent of the hospital.
Wen Ruan didn't have time to ask any questions and could only follow the crowd forward.
But upon entering the hospital, I was immediately stunned by the bustling crowds, the shouts of women, the cries of children, and the young people with their bodies wrapped in bandages. The noisy and chaotic environment made it hard to believe that this was a hospital.
"Are you here to help?" Just as Wen Ruan was captivated by the scene before her, a young female doctor in a white coat suddenly stepped out and asked the group.
It is worth noting that she has an Asian appearance, but it is not clear what her specific nationality is.
As she walked out, Wen Ruan had a vague feeling that this person was very familiar, as if she had seen her somewhere before, but she wasn't quite sure.
"Yes, Dr. Jiangyan, we're here to help. Is there anything we can do for you?" the leading soldier replied.
"Those who know basic first aid, come with me first. The rest of you, go and help move the injured person," Jiang Yan hurriedly instructed.
Wen Ruan looked around a few times, then stepped forward and said, "Dr. Jiang Yan, I only know basic CPR. Is that alright?"
Jiang Yan looked at Wen Ruan with some surprise: "A Chinese?" he asked in Chinese with a somewhat uncertain tone.
A look of surprise flashed in Wen Ruan's eyes: "Yes, a Chinese person." She replied in Chinese as well.
“Yes, CPR is very important. You can do it with me.” Without much time for conversation, Jiang Yan quickly returned to work and continued speaking to the group.
"Besides this Chinese lady, is there anyone else who knows first aid?"
In the end, besides Wen Ruan, two other young soldiers followed Jiang Yan to the center to participate in the emergency treatment of the seriously wounded.
Andy, on the other hand, joined the others in moving the wounded.
As Wen Ruan walked into the ward for the seriously wounded, she could feel as if her vision was filled with waves of blood, a stark contrast to the area outside. It was quiet, even eerily quiet.
The only sound was the doctor's calm voice instructing his assistant to hand over the instruments; most patients were on their deathbeds and didn't even have the strength to groan.
Jiang Yan quickly assigned tasks to the three of them, assigning each of them to be an assistant to one of the three doctors.
Wen Ruan was assigned to follow Jiang Yan.
"What's your name?" Jiang Yan asked Wen Ruan calmly as he performed first aid on the little girl whose limbs had been blown off by the shell.
Wen Ruan swallowed nervously. "Wen Ruan, my name is Wen Ruan," she answered Jiang Yan, but her eyes remained fixed on the little girl.
The little girl was on the verge of death, her breathing so faint it was frightening. If Wen Ruan hadn't been so focused on the little girl and observed her carefully for a long time, and if Jiang Yan hadn't been doing his best to help her, Wen Ruan wouldn't have even been able to feel her breathing.
"Your job is to carry this medical kit for me and hand it to me immediately when I need the equipment inside."
"Your most important task now is to quickly learn the names of these instruments."
"In addition to this, some basic first aid should also be administered..."
"Leon, take care of this wounded man first..." Before Jiang Yan could finish speaking, another young soldier was carried in, his body and face covered in blood. Wen Ruan closed her eyes in fear when she saw him.
Soon, the doctor named Leon went to treat the wounded soldier's injuries.
"You need to perform some basic first aid. You said you learned CPR, shit!"
"Now, come quickly and give this little girl first aid! She's lost too much blood and is barely conscious..." Jiang Yan couldn't help but curse.
Wen Ruan was flustered when she heard Jiang Yan's instructions.
"Don't be nervous, stay calm and do what you're supposed to do." Jiang Yan calmly instructed Wen Ruan, but his hands and feet didn't stop as he continued to give the little girl blood transfusions and clean the shrapnel from her limbs.
"Very good, the movements are very standard, I've studied it before." Jiang Yan chatted with Wen Ruan to ease her tension, but his expression was very serious as he carefully observed the little girl's vital signs.
"Huh? Oh, no, the instructors specifically taught us that during our military training in school." Wen Ruan was so nervous that she didn't even think before she spoke.
"Military training?" Jiang Yan continued to ask calmly.
Wen Ruan's heart skipped a beat, realizing she might have said something wrong, so she quickly tried to make amends.
"Yes, my father is a retired soldier. He taught me a lot of things, including basic first aid."
Jiang Yan did not ask any further questions, her attention remaining focused on the little girl whose vital signs were gradually returning.
"Very good, keep it up..." Jiang Yan continued to encourage.
She saw that Wen Ruan seemed to be running out of strength after a long period of CPR, but the little girl's condition was so urgent that she could only let her persevere.
Thanks to the combined efforts of the two doctors, the little girl was finally saved, and the surgery was successfully completed. She only needed post-operative wound care, but sadly, she lost both her legs forever...
Afterwards, Wen Ruan followed Jiang Yan to participate in the rescue of more than a dozen people, big and small. They were busy from the afternoon until the next morning, and the two of them finally had a moment to catch their breath.
Jiang Yan handed Wen Ruan a bottle of water. "I'm sorry, Wen Ruan, I've made you work non-stop since you arrived here."
Wen Ruan took a sip of water to moisten her lips, which were dry and chapped from lack of water for a long time: "It's okay. For me, it's only been a day since I arrived here, but you have been doing such high-intensity work for a long time. I admire you."
Only then did Wen Ruan have time to look around...
My heart tightened.
