After work, Hua Li came to pick up her child from kindergarten and heard from Teacher Zhang that someone had falsely accused Luo Yan of assaulting someone.
Hua Li asked Teacher Zhang what the other person looked like.
"Medium height, not fat, slightly dark skin, round face, triangular eyes..."
Hua Li immediately recognized the voice as that of Liu Fengling, who had been dismissed. "She was my former colleague."
There was only one reason why the former colleague falsely accused the child of hitting someone: Hua Li had a grudge against the former colleague, so Teacher Zhang didn't say anything more.
Hua Li thanked them and led them home, one in each hand.
As I approached the gate of the compound, a slightly plump middle-aged woman wearing black trousers and a ginger-yellow gauze shirt came to greet me.
"Dehuai, Grandma's dear grandson, come here and let Grandma see you."
With tears welling up in her eyes, Shen Yezi opened her arms to Xiao Xiu.
The incident happened so suddenly that Hua Li was caught off guard and stood frozen in place.
Xiao Xiu gripped Hua Li's hand tightly, her lips pressed into a thin line, her eyes filled with fear as she looked at Chen Yezi.
Cheng Li also came over, his face full of kindness.
"Dehuai, why don't you recognize your grandparents?"
Xiao Xiu remained tense, his eyes fixed warily on the two of them.
Judging from Xiao Xiu's reaction, he didn't welcome his grandparents. Hua Li led the two children a few steps and stood by the guard post at the entrance of the compound.
"What proof do you have that you claim to be Xiaoxiu's grandparents?"
Shen Yezi said gently, "You must be the third daughter-in-law of the Luo family who took in Dehuai, right? I have proof..."
Shen Yezi took out a family photo taken last year, a certificate issued by the police station, and a document from the street office detailing Cheng Dehuai's physical characteristics, which basically matched Xiaoxiu's.
After Hua Li looked at it, he returned it to the old couple and bent down to ask Xiao Xiu.
"Are you going back with your grandparents?"
Xiao Xiu's eyes were filled with complex emotions, but she finally nodded.
Luo Yan could tell that Xiao Xiu didn't want to leave, so she held onto Xiao Xiu tightly.
Seeing Luo Yan's exquisite features, with her bright, sparkling eyes and rosy lips, Shen Yezi smiled and asked Hua Li.
"Is this your daughter?"
Hua Li forced a smile and replied, "Yes."
Chen Yezi asked Luo Yan, "You're reluctant to part with your brother, aren't you? Grandma promises you, she'll bring your brother to visit you again in the future, okay?"
Xiao Xiu's parents are two idiots. These two old folks probably aren't much better. Entrusting Xiao Xiu to them is like sending him back to hell.
"Brother, don't go."
Luo Yan ignored Chen Yezi and gently shook Xiao Xiu's hand.
Xiao Xiu had tears in her eyes, but she still pushed Luo Yan away and walked towards the Cheng family elders.
“Xiao Xiu…” Hua Li had already regarded Xiao Xiu as half a son, and tears streamed down her face as she was suddenly separated from him.
Xiao Xiu turned her back to the mother and daughter and walked forward without looking back.
Shen Yezi wanted to exchange a few more pleasantries with Hua Li, but seeing that her grandson was not asking for directions and just walking in silence, she quickly said goodbye to Hua Li and followed after him with Cheng Li.
We can't let them take Xiao Rong away!
"Mom, brother!" Luo Yan pointed at Xiao Xiu and stamped her foot anxiously.
“Yanyan, they are Xiaoxiu’s family. We can’t stop them from taking Xiaoxiu away.”
"What do you mean they can't? They abused Xiao Xiu, what right do they have to take Xiao Xiu away?" Luo Yan took a step to chase after them, but Hua Li grabbed her and pulled her towards the courtyard.
"Brother! Brother!" Luo Yan shouted, reaching out her hand to Xiao Xiu.
Xiao Xiu paused, turned around stiffly, and when he saw Luo Yan reaching out to him, he could no longer hold back his tears.
But he couldn't go back, he couldn't cause trouble for Aunt Hua, so Xiao Xiu walked away without looking back.
Back home, Hua Li cried, and Luo Yan looked worried.
When the phone rang, Luo Yan thought it was her grandmother calling, but when she answered it, it was Luo Shicheng.
"Dad has something to do these few days and can't come home. Please take good care of Mom."
His daughter is incredibly capable; he feels at ease entrusting his daughter-in-law to her.
Luo Yan hummed in agreement.
Luo Shicheng sensed that Luo Yan was in a bad mood and stopped trying to hang up the phone.
"Has something happened at home?"
Luo Yan handed the phone to Hua Li, who cried as she told her about Xiao Xiu.
Luo Shicheng gritted his teeth, "Cheng Yi is too afraid to come himself, so he sent two old people to pick up the child."
If Cheng Yi dares to come, he'll beat him back to Beijing, but he can't do anything about the old man.
Hua Li choked up, "Xiao Xiu is so sensible. She clearly didn't want to go with them, but she went with them anyway so as not to cause us any trouble."
Luo Shicheng was in turmoil as he listened to Hua Li's cries.
"Don't cry. You didn't get enough rest last night. Go to bed early tonight. I'll take care of your nap."
Just then, someone knocked on the door. Luo Shicheng told Hua Li not to hang up and to go open the door.
Hua Li went out to open the door, but outside were Shen Yezi and Cheng Li, followed by Mo Xian, who had led them into the courtyard.
Shen Yezi looked panicked. "Third brother's wife, my Dehuai is missing. Has he come back looking for you?"
Hua Li's expression changed upon hearing this.
"Xiao Xiu hasn't come back. When and where did Xiao Xiu disappear?"
Upon hearing from Hua Li that Xiao Xiu hadn't returned, Shen Yezi broke down in tears. Cheng Li, supporting his wife, said...
“After we picked up Dehuai, we planned to take him to a state-run restaurant for dinner. When I went to order, his grandmother went to relieve herself. We told her to sit still, but she disappeared in just a few minutes.”
Hua Li said unhappily, "Children cannot be left unattended. Let alone a few minutes, they could run away even if you let go of their hands for a moment. How do you take care of your children?"
This was the first time Mo Xian had ever seen Hua Li lose her temper, but he felt that Hua Li was right.
Shen Yezi and Cheng Li looked ashamed.
“This child was so well-behaved when he first learned to walk, he would never move if you told him not to. I never expected him to become so disobedient as he grew up.”
Hua Li grew angrier the more she listened.
