Luo Yan walked up to Sun Bailing and smiled at him face to face.
Sun Bailing's view of the window was blocked. When he came to his senses, he saw Luo Yan. The little girl was smiling at him like a flower, and his gloomy mood instantly improved.
But the thought that Liu Jingqiu was actually his wife's child with another man made him feel gloomy and depressed.
Seeing that the usually energetic person now looked like a wilted eggplant, Luo Yan touched Sun Bailing's face with her small hand.
"Grandpa, don't cry."
The babyish voice, mimicking the tone of an adult coaxing a child, made Sun Bailing chuckle.
Luo Yan finally managed to make Sun Bailing laugh, and immediately pointed to the various gifts that were scattered all over the room.
"Eat."
Having barely eaten for several days, Sun Bailing mustered his strength, put on his shoes, got out of bed, and picked up Luo Yan.
Which one does Yan Yan want?
Luo Yan could choose whatever she wanted, and Sun Bailing placed all of Luo Yan's selections on the table.
Luo Yan first took out a piece of easily digestible sponge cake and fed it to Sun Bailing.
Sun Bailing, who doesn't like sweets, didn't have much of an appetite, but after being fed by Luo Yan, he suddenly had a big appetite. After finishing what Luo Yan had, he took another piece and ate it, and then offered it to Luo Yan as well.
Out of curiosity, Luo Yan picked up a piece of sugar porcelain biscuit. It tasted good, but it was too sweet.
“Shui Shui…” Luo Yan pointed to herself.
Sun Bailing also choked a little while eating, picked up the kettle to pour water, but there was no water in the kettle.
Luo Yan jumped to the ground and reached for the water bottle. Sun Bailing handed the water bottle to Luo Yan, who then ran out with it.
As Luo Yan came out of the door, she saw that Hua Li and Xu Tianzhong were talking at a distance and had not noticed her. She quickly ran to the water room and poured spiritual spring water into the kettle while no one was there.
Luo Yan returned carrying a water bottle, and Sun Bailing came up to greet her, took the water bottle, and placed it on the table.
He asked Luo Yan to take the empty kettle outside because there were two grown-up people outside the door. Why didn't either of them care and let the child fetch water by herself? What if she got burned?
"Grandma gave..." Luo Yan pointed to the kettle.
Sun Bailing picked up the kettle and poured a glass of water for himself and Luo Yan. He took a sip first. It wasn't scalding hot water, but cool water. No, it was more like spring water, clear, sweet, and particularly delicious.
Perhaps it was brought by a patient's family member, Sun Bailing came up with a very reasonable explanation.
"Didn't Yan Yan thank Grandma?"
Luo Yan nodded, "Thank you, thank you."
Oh dear, with Luo Yan's adorable charm, sending her half a pot of spring water is perfectly reasonable.
Luo Yan picked up an imported ham sausage and gave it to Sun Bailing.
At that time, there were no ham sausages in China; all ham sausages were imported.
The paper bag packaging the sausages was printed with Russian and a picture of sausages. Luo Yan pointed to the picture and said, "It smells good, it smells good."
Sun Bailing chuckled and pinched Luo Yan's cheek. "You little glutton, you certainly know how to pick things."
He tore open the paper bag, took out a sausage, and fed it to Luo Yan.
Luo Yan took a bite. It didn't taste like a sausage; the texture was closer to a regular sausage. It was a bit difficult to chew, so she handed it back to Sun Bailing.
Sun Bailing didn't mind and took it and ate it directly.
The two, one big and one small, picked at their food. Sun Bailing took all the food that Luo Yan couldn't eat or didn't like, while piling all the delicious food that Luo Yan liked in front of her.
Just as they were enjoying their meal, someone burst in from outside.
Seeing that Sun Bailing had given all the delicious food on the table to Luo Yan, Sun Zhile was furious.
"They're all mine! Who gave you permission to touch my things!"
Luo Yan trembled at the shout and turned to see Sun Zhile pushing the table like a madman.
Sun Bailing was too weak after his illness to react immediately, and sat in the chair with a dazed expression.
Sun Bailing was sitting at the back, so he would definitely be hit if the table fell over. Luo Yan jumped to the ground and crashed into Sun Zhile like a cannonball.
"Yanyan!" Sun Bailing's eyes turned red with anxiety upon seeing this.
Luo Yan bumped into Sun Zhile and fell under the table.
With the table as cover, Luo Yan punched Sun Zhile several times, then rolled to Sun Bailing's feet and started crying.
When Xiao Rong encountered Hua Li in the corridor, she knew that Luo Yan was in the room. She let Sun Zhile in to teach Luo Yan a lesson.
Hearing Sun Zhile's screams, Xiao Rong rushed inside.
"Lele!"
Xiao Rong ran over to help Sun Zhile up, and then scolded Sun Bailing as soon as she looked up.
"How can you, as the grandfather, let someone else's child beat Lele?"
Sun Bailing, his face grim, picked up Luo Yan, who had bravely protected him, his heart filled with mixed emotions.
"Grandma, my grandpa gave all my things to that brat."
Sun Zhile angrily pointed at Luo Yan, who was being held in Sun Bailing's arms, and shouted.
Xiao Rong slapped Sun Zhile across the face as if brushing off dust.
"What nonsense are you talking about? How did your grandfather's things become yours?"
In previous years, Sun Bailing would pay for the gifts out of his own pocket, and all the gifts he received would go to Xiao Rong. Therefore, Sun Zhile believed from a young age that the things others gave to Sun Bailing belonged to his family.
Now that Sun Bailing hasn't given Xiao Rong the things he received, and even gave his favorite sausages to that brat, how could Sun Zhile not go crazy?
Sun Bailing frowned. "Xiao Rong, instead of talking about other people's children, why don't you teach your grandson what manners are?"
Xiao Rong's face alternated between pale and flushed.
“Lele said she missed her grandpa, so we came here. Besides, you’re sick and need someone by your side, so why are you arguing with me?”
Sun Bailing glanced at the grandfather and granddaughter who refused to leave, then carried Luo Yan toward the door.
"Old Sun..."
Xiao Rong couldn't accept Sun Bailing's coldness and questioned him while sobbing.
"I've been by your side for decades, can't I even get a little bit of your sincerity in return?"
