Chapter 18 Who needs your fake kindness? Get out!

"I'm sorry, that's not what I meant..."

Luo Shicheng apologized for the first time, but Hua Li did not appreciate it.

“You’re right. Since we’re getting a divorce, it’s really not good to keep living in your house. Don’t worry, I’ll find a place to move out as soon as possible.”

"Hua Li!" Luo Shicheng's voice was tense. "You know perfectly well that I was just saying that in a fit of anger..."

Hua Li interrupted Luo Shicheng, saying, "Words spoken in anger are often what one truly thinks."

The Hua Li of the past was gentle and considerate, but the Hua Li before him was aggressive and domineering. Luo Shicheng irritably ran his fingers through his hair.

"You're completely unreasonable."

Hua Li didn't want to argue with Luo Shicheng. "If you're being unreasonable, why don't you stay away?"

Seeing Hua Li rolling her eyes at him in the bright light, Luo Shicheng suddenly found Hua Li quite adorable.

Has he lost his mind? Luo Shicheng despised himself for this, yet he couldn't help but recall how Hua Li looked when they first met.

The girl wore a faded homespun cloth dress, her hair styled in two shiny braids, and her clean-cut face had a pair of bright eyes that looked like a fawn's nervousness. She wanted to look at him but dared not, her innocent expression as pure as a delicate flower covered in morning dew.

Hua Li stayed at his home, taking care of his daily needs, yet she was always respectful and never overstepped the bounds of propriety.

Everything changed two years later, on the night of the wedding...

Thinking of this, Luo Shicheng suppressed his frustration and pulled over a chair to sit opposite Hua Li.

"Let's have a proper talk."

Hua Li now feels annoyed whenever she sees Luo Shicheng. "I have nothing to talk to you about."

Hua Li has confirmed that it was Luo Shicheng who forced her that day. Luo Shicheng should also remember her, but because of the fifty yuan tucked in the envelope and Liu Jingqiu's mention of the yellow-toothed man having a red mole on his chest, he still doubts her and Luo Yan's identity.

Even if Hua Li were weak, she wouldn't want a man who makes a mistake but doesn't try to make amends and instead chooses to help the wicked.

“I know you’re angry, and I admit I’ve been a bit harsh on you these past five years, but actually… I’m not feeling good either…”

If he truly didn't care about Hua Li, he wouldn't have deliberately ignored her out of spite, completely disregarding Hua Li's hardships.

"Stop talking, I don't want to hear it."

Every bit of suffering she endured was real and cannot be erased by Luo Shicheng's simple apology.

"If I have to forgive you just because you say sorry, then I deserve all the injustices I suffered and the hardships Yan Yan endured at such a young age."

Luo Shicheng scratched his head. "Give me time, and I will investigate everything. If it's my fault, I have no face to ask for your forgiveness, but please give me a chance to make it up to you and Yan Yan, okay?"

“Oh no…” Hua Li turned her head away from Luo Shicheng, “Please leave, I need to rest.”

Hua Li became unresponsive, leaving Luo Shicheng at a loss. But when he saw Luo Yan lying sickly in bed, he suddenly had an idea.

Luo Shicheng walked over to Luo Yan with the lunchbox in his hand, squatted down, picked up a dumpling with his chopsticks, and held it to Luo Yan's mouth.

"How about Daddy feeds Yan Yan dumplings?"

Even if her father was unreliable before, once he wakes up, he'll definitely be a loving husband, and Luo Yan certainly won't refuse.

Luo Yan opened her mouth and took a bite of the dumpling. The fragrant dumpling was delicious.

Seeing that Luo Yan was being so accommodating, Luo Shicheng was overjoyed and picked her up, holding her close in his arms, and patiently fed her bite by bite.

No matter how much Hua Li despised Luo Shicheng, once Luo Shicheng had Luo Yan's weakness, Hua Li had no choice but to endure it.

After eating a few dumplings, Luo Yan felt full and had some strength, so she called for Hua Li.

"Mom, eat."

Luo Shicheng brought two boxes of dumplings, and there was another box on the table, but Hua Li didn't want to eat them.

Luo Yan repeatedly urged Hua Li to eat, but Luo Shicheng had no choice but to persuade Hua Li to eat.

"How can you take care of the child if you don't eat your fill? Eat up."

Hua Li got down from the ground in a huff, picked up her chopsticks and started eating. Before she knew it, she had finished the whole lunchbox of dumplings.

Upon seeing this, Luo Shicheng secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

After feeding Luo Yan, Luo Shicheng packed up the lunchbox and prepared to leave, saying to Hua Li before leaving.

"I'll bring you food again tomorrow morning. Is there anything else you and Yan Yan would like to eat?"

Hua Li said impatiently, "No need, it's best if you don't come."

A hint of sadness flashed in Luo Shicheng's eyes, and he left without saying anything more.

Hearing the door close, Hua Li turned to look at the closed ward door, and tears welled up in her eyes again.

You have a sour face when they're around, but you cry when they leave. It's really... Luo Yan, who was full, pretended not to know and closed her eyes to rest.

Not long after, the ward door opened again, and Luo Shicheng returned, which infuriated Hua Li.

What are you doing back here?

Luo Shicheng placed the brown sugar, malted milk powder, steamed rice cake, oil tea noodles, luncheon meat, and apples he had bought on the table.

"Make some brown sugar for Yan Yan to drink; it'll help replenish her blood. Eat these things whenever you're hungry, and I'll buy more when we run out."

Hua Li hadn't even wiped the tears from her face when she angrily shooed him away, "Who wants your fake kindness? Get out!"

Even when Hua Li was throwing a tantrum, she still spoke in a gentle and coquettish tone, showing no trace of the fierceness she displayed when she was fighting him. Luo Shicheng wanted to laugh but couldn't, so he nodded and walked towards the door.

"I'm leaving. Lock the door when you go to bed tonight and be careful."

Hua Li snorted but didn't respond.

Once it was confirmed that Luo Shicheng had truly left, Hua Li got out of bed and locked the door.

After thinking for a moment, he opened the door again, took out the thermos, filled it with hot water, made a bowl of brown sugar water for Luo Yan, let it cool, and fed it to Luo Yan.

Luo Yan drank half of it, but insisted that Hua Li drink the other half.

Hua Li had no choice but to drink it, and then poured some cooled boiled water for Luo Yan to rinse her mouth.

After washing up, Hua Li coaxed Luo Yan to sleep, got up, locked the door, and went back to her own bed.

After tossing and turning until late into the night, Hua Li finally cried herself to sleep.

The next day, Hua Li was woken up by a knock on the door before she was fully awake. She opened the door in a daze and saw Luo Shicheng carrying a lunchbox to deliver food. His eyebrows were so furrowed that they could trap a fly.

"I already said I don't need it..."

Regardless of what Hua Li said, Luo Shicheng entered the room, put down the lunchbox, and then pulled Luo Yan out of bed, dressed her, and carried her to wash up.

Luo Yan had slept well and let her scumbag father do whatever he wanted. She washed her face, brushed her teeth, and sat at the table obediently drinking soy milk and eating fried dough sticks.

Luo Shicheng sat beside Luo Yan peeling a boiled egg. Seeing Hua Li still standing there angrily, the corners of his mouth turned up noticeably.

"You're a mother yourself, how come you're not as sensible as your daughter? Do you still need someone to treat you to meals?"

Hua Li just wanted to throw the shameless Luo Shicheng out, but unfortunately she didn't have the strength.

After standing there fuming for a while, Hua Li's stomach started growling, and she couldn't stand it any longer, so she picked up her toiletries and went to the washroom to wash up.

When she returned, Luo Yan was eating boiled eggs. When she saw Hua Li return, she smiled and called out to Hua Li.

"The egg smells delicious, Mom, have some."

Seeing that Hua Li did not move, Luo Shicheng's face turned cold.

"How can the child get better if he doesn't eat? You can't hold the child back even if you're angry with me. Come and eat now."

"You have to say it."

Hua Li walked over and pushed Luo Shicheng aside, then sat down in the chair next to Luo Yan.

Luo Shicheng, "..."
